*coughs*
Sorry *blushes*, sometimes you just can’t help channelling your inner Mariah. And, trust me, this song will be your earworm for the day when you read this fantabulous story.
*whispers* C’mere! I may have read this heartwarming, humorous, feel-good, and festive read twice… *waves hands* Okay, okay – I totally did. It’s just one of those tales that warms the cockles of your heart. Sappy grins most definitely included. And I, for one, needed that this month.
Plus, I love it when characters are as fond of sentence enhancers (aka swear words) as I am *snorts*. What can I say? *shrugs* Potty mouth thy name is Laura.
Poor Nick! Life really has taken a left turn lately. You can’t get much different than going from practicing law to being a shopping centre Santa! Needs must and all that. Yet, one little boy’s Christmas wish is going to bring even more chaos (but of the best kind!).
I honestly can’t recommend this book enough – is that coming through clearly enough? *smirks* It’s cemented it’s place in my heart and onto my re-read list.
I love discovering new authors and AIWfC was the perfect introduction to Joanna Bolouri’s writing.
Right, time for the big finish. Let’s gie it sum laldy!
iisss yyyoooouuuu!
Uhm… I LOVED this one. You all know high praise from me holds extra weight because I don’t hand out 5 to just anyone! This book felt different than any other romance I’ve read and the entire time I could just picture it as a Netflix Christmas movie. I NEED this to be a Netflix Christmas movie. Who do I need to talk to to make this happen?!
Nick’s life is a mess. After years working as a lawyer for a swanky company, he’s been laid off for a few dumb mistakes. No problem, there’s plenty of jobs, right? Wrong. When the nly job he can find still available is as a mall Santa, he honestly doesn’t think it can get any worse. And then his girlfriend breaks up with him. Like I said, Nick’s life is a mess. When a little boy comes running into the Sant grotto after close, begging for Nick to hear his Christmas wish, he never expects his entire life to change. THe boy’s request is simple. All he wants for Christmas, is for his mother to be happy. Nick makes it his mission to make this happen and decides to set up Sarah, Alfie’s mom, with his best friend, Matt. He never expected to fall for Sarah, himself.
This was such a good book. You know those books that you like so much you almost can’t think of anything to say because you just feel like it needs to be read to be understood? I feel like romances from a male POV are so rare and can really either be great or meh. I think that’s probably a personal opinion, but when I realized this was a male lead with no female POV, I was a little worried I wouldn’t like it. Color me wrong!! Nick was such a breath of fresh air. The friendship between him and Matt and him and Aflie and him and Sarah each felt so real and authentic. The choices and mistakes that were made throughout felt like choices and mistakes I think most would make. The internal dilemma he has throughout the book and the way he handles it, I thought was super respectable and made me like him even more. I was rooting for Sarah and Nick the entire time, but I couldn’t see a way through without heartbreak. I’m just going to say READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!
Bless! Poor Nick got fired from his prestigious job as a lawyer. Desperate for cash, he ends up as a store Santa.
These characters are all very ‘real’ and I love how Nick grows as a person. Let’s face it; there was plenty of room for him to do so. He and his mate are living the lad life at the start.
There’s an agonising situation which held my interest.
It’s very British, so yeah, there’s swearing.
Probably no prizes for foreseeing the ending, but it’s chick lit not a mystery.
I really liked the varied backgrounds of the characters.
The story is told from Nick’s POV which was interesting.
A fun, Christmassy story.
I’ve been desperate for a feel good read for quite a while now and although it was still a few weeks off Christmas, “All I Want for Christmas” by author Joanna Bolouri, one hundred per cent magically hit the spot!
What if the love of your life is your best friend’s girlfriend and you were the one who set them up? The premise of this story was so simple but so clever. From the first page I was fully invested in the superb characters and wonderfully endearing storyline. Every scene played out like I was watching a movie, so clear were the descriptions, the characters personalities and the delightful ambience. It doesn’t have to be Christmas time to read this story, the advent of Christmas is the catalyst for the events that unfold in the coming months. This is such a fun rom-com that isn’t heavy on the romance and would make an excellent read for teenage readers too. I particularly loved the friendship between Nick and Matt and the endearing relationship little Alfie brought to them both. The love triangle between Sarah, Nick and Matt was realistic and very believable and I enjoyed reading how Sarah was diplomatic and thoroughly genuine in her emotions.
This is the first book I’ve read by Joanne Bolouri but I understand she has written many women’s fiction stories, including the very naughty ‘Relight My Fire’ and the popular “The List”. I will most definitely read more by this author and after being thoroughly entertained and kept laughing by the antics of Nick and Matt, I’d happily recommend “All I Want for Christmas” for any time of the year!
