Another great read from Kristi.
All Bets Are Off by Kristi Rose is a fun mystery filled with lots of laughs!
Poor Samantha…she thinks she has had the perfect husband over the past six months. Unfortunately, not only has she learned of his death, but he was already married. Even though she isn’t entitled to anything, he did leave her his secret PI business.
Samantha is a great character. Despite this devastating news, she realizes she has to do something since he left her broke. So, she dusts herself off and decides to make a go of the PI business all while trying to keep her overachieving family in the dark about Carson’s polygamy.
While taking her first case, she also comes to realize polygamy wasn’t the only secret he was hiding. Some pretty mysterious characters begin showing up as well, and the answers she is seeking may just put her in danger.
The author did a great job of combining great characters with humor and mystery. The cast of secondary characters really made the book even better, such as Samantha’s friend, Precious, Carson’s attorney, Tyson Lockett, Hue, and Leo. The icing on the cake was the end…it really made me anxious to read the next book in the series!!!!
I want more! It’s going to be so hard waiting for the next book! The characters were great. I really like Samantha “Sam”. She grew so much from when she learned about her “husband” to taking out bad guys and not freaking out. And Precious was funny. I really need to use her line next time I start to drive…”Hold on to your titties kitties!” Too funny! There was so much action in this cozy. These bad guys were REALLY bad! I hope the next book is this good!

This is my first read from this author and I loved it! It made me cracks smiles all day and there were times I burst out laughing. Yes, there were times Samantha was just plain ridiculous but it worked for me. I have to know what happens next so I’ll be waiting anxiously for the next book.
A must read if you enjoy mysteries. A great plot, well developed characters, suspense, and mystery with plenty of danger, twists and turns. .

Such a great read, so exciting. Whirlwind life this Samantha True has. Yet, heartbreaking to find out you do not know the man you married at all! So filled with mystery, danger, and a big learning curve, this is a book to set up for a lot of sequels (I hope).

Life isn’t going as planned for Samantha True. Six months ago she went on a wild weekend with her boyfriend to Vegas and they got married. Now she discovers that he has been killed in a freak accident, he isn’t who he says he is, he has another wife and life, and the only thing she gets out of the marriage is his secret PI business. Now people are knocking at her door demanding information about her dead spouse and she finds herself in way over her head.
This is a cozy mystery with a little bit of humor, action, adventure, mystery, and a storyline with a lot going on. The misfortune of Samantha will draw you in and you can’t help by root for this underdog.

Called into a lawyer’s office early that morning, Samantha True’s life was about to change drastically. The lawyer, Tyson Lockett, passed a piece of paper to Samantha to impart some troubling news – her husband, Carson Holmes, had been killed. Looking uncomfortable, he told her there was still more bad news. He passed the death certificate to her and asked her to look at it carefully. The information was not correct. The lawyer said her husband used that death certificate to establish a new identity and the man she knew as “Carson Holmes” was not really “Carson Holmes”. The real Carson Holmes died from cancer 10 years ago. The third shock was that he was actually married to someone else – divorcing, yes, but it had not officially happened yet. She slipped unconscious to the floor as darkness surrounded her. The lawyer woke her and she ran to the plastic trashcan to deposit her lunch.
Sam was told that everything Carson Holmes owned reverted to his estate and belonged to his actual legal wife. The lawyer couldn’t even tell her his real name. But he did tell her to get rid of anything associated with his name as fast as possible. He told her to transfer the money in her joint account immediately – she had been keeping her own money in the joint savings account so she could quit her job, which she had just done! That was all she had to live on now – but the account was already empty. The lawyer said Carson had left his private investigator business to her by putting it in her name. The building lease was paid for a year. But she knew nothing about being a P.I. She got up and stormed to the door as the lawyer told her to be careful who she talked to, and to forget Carson Holmes had ever existed.
Now the curious Sam will ignore the lawyer’s warning and try to uncover the truth of how her life got so messed up. All she has left is the private investigator business, so she studies up on YouTube videos to see what she needs to do. But when people come around trying to get information on Carson, she knows she is in over her head. How can she stay safe? Who are these people? And who was Carson that these strangers think she knows something? What are they looking for?
This was a good story with a clever story line. Sam was a strong character who didn’t let disaster hold her back from taking care of what she needed to do. Grab your copy and see how if she can survive against an unknown enemy!
I loved the second Samantha True novel! The mystery kept me guessing til the end. Precious was hilarious. I loved the banter between Leo and Samantha. I can’t wait to see what else this world has to offer!
Sam is back and its been a few years since the last one. All the fun characters are of course back like Precious. It starts out with Sam learning her husband is not only dead but not who she thought he was. The rest of the story is about Sam learning the truth and the crazy things she ends up doing or being in the middle of. Hoping to learn the truth of the mystery of her husband sucked me in but the story kept me reading. I laughed through most of it while hoping Sam would solve all the mysteries. I thought it was well written and fun to read. I really liked Sam especially since she was not a hardened PI or let the crappy things happening get to her. I liked the first story and this one kept the happy fun feeling of the first book and made this mystery even better and setup the rest of the series.
All Bets Are Off is the second book in the Samantha True Mystery series by Kristi Rose. I found this to be a most entertaining read. When Samantha True’s husband dies she essentially finds herself to be broke. Then she learns that he married her using a false name. Oh, and by the way, he was already married. Really nothing she can do but try to make a go of it with the private investigator business he left her. Things get even crazier from there. This was zanier than my usual reads but most enjoyable.
I love the author’s sense of humor. Samantha True has dyslexia, but found she had a talent for photography. She was training as a forensic photographer, but found that seeing the dead was not her cup of tea. Ten years has elapsed since the end of the previous book, while Samantha has been working as a photographer, taking family pictures. But 6 months ago she and her boyfriend Carson Holmes married drunk in a Vegas chapel. Still, she had considered their marriage happy and had just quit her job, when she is told by a lawyer that her husband had been killed in an auto accident, involving a really big tree, that it turns out that he was a bigamist, whose divorce from his wife had been dragged out by said wife, and that the lawyer of wife, was taking all their assets. However, she also learned that Carson had procured for her a PI license and left her his business and 1 employee, Toby. With the help of her BFF Precious, Toby and Leo her nemesis/friend cop, Samantha learns the skill of being a PI and with some successes, builds confidence in herself.
In the course of a few whirlwind days, this funny murder mystery, with it’s very quirky character, takes Samantha on a journey of discovery. One mystery not explored- why is Leo still single?
I read an ARC from the author. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
