#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • For fans of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Red Rising comes a gripping sci-fi adventure in which a group of teenagers wake up in a mysterious corridor with no knowledge of who they are or how they got trapped. Their only hope lies with an indomitable young woman who must lead them not only to answers but to survival. “I open my eyes to darkness. Total darkness. …
“I open my eyes to darkness. Total darkness. I hear my own breathing, but nothing else. I lift my head . . . it thumps against something solid and unmoving. There is a board right in front of my face. No, not a board . . . a lid.”
A teenage girl awakens to find herself trapped in a coffin. She has no idea who she is, where she is, or how she got there. Fighting her way free brings little relief—she discovers only a room lined with caskets and a handful of equally mystified survivors. Beyond their room lies a corridor filled with bones and dust, but no people . . . and no answers.
She knows only one thing about herself—her name, M. Savage, which was engraved on the foot of her coffin—yet she finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them, or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her. Now, if they’re to have any chance, she must get them to trust one another.
Whatever the truth is, she is determined to find it and confront it. If she has to lead, she will make sure they survive. Maybe there’s a way out, a rational explanation, and a fighting chance against the dangers to come. Or maybe a reality they cannot comprehend lies just beyond the next turn.
Praise for Alive
“Suspenseful . . . [Alive] lives up to its hype, packing plenty of thrills.”—Entertainment Weekly
“Fascinating and intriguing . . . a cross between Lord of the Flies and The Maze Runner and yet . . . so much more.”—Fresh Fiction
“A ripping, claustrophobic thunderbolt of a novel, Scott Sigler’s Alive gives us an unforgettable young hero who must find the inner strength to lead without knowing where she is, who she is, and how bitterly the odds are stacked against her.”—Pierce Brown, New York Times bestselling author of Red Rising
“Sigler has created a wonderful and engrossing character in M. Savage. Strong and smart, but with the naïveté and misgivings of any teenage girl, she’s someone you’ll definitely want on your side when s*** hits the fan, which it most certainly does.”—Veronica Belmont, host of Sword & Laser
“A tense, unsettling page-turner of a story—both deeply strange and wildly compelling.”—Cherie Priest, author of Boneshaker and Maplecroft
“From the first page I was hooked. The puzzle unfolds masterfully, right down to the last page.”—Dr. Phil Plait, author of Bad Astronomy

I saw this one being promoted for $1.99 last week, so I decided to give it a shot this weekend. From the beginning, I didn’t particularly like the narrator– or any of the characters, for that matter. However, the concept was so intriguing, and I was so curious about what the mysterious corridor was, that I finished it in one sitting. I’m definitely glad that I did! Did anyone else pick up Alive?
Alive, Scott Sigler comes up something utterly overdone: a generic sci-fi adventure trilogy retold a thousand times as seen in The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner. A group of young adults awake in a mysterious enclosed space with no knowledge of who they are or how they got there…and you can probably guess the rest.
If you haven’t heard the audio version of this book, what are you waiting for? This story had me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to devour more of Sigler’s captivating and suspenseful series.
For those of you considering the audio book — DON’T. The choice of the reader for M. Savage is quite awful. The entire time she read, she sounded exactly and distractingly like the Audrey character in National Lampoon’s European Vacation: an overeager and tomboyish girl grunting out words.
As for the story, it was intriguing and unique, yet too much was given away too early for my tastes. (I like to be guessing until the very end) I enjoyed it and will continue the series, but will stick to the written editions from this point forward, because they will certainly reflect Scott Sigler’s usual clear style and enjoyable insight, just without the odd voice.
This book surprised me in the best way possible. There is such a mystery built around the plot and you have no idea, not even a single guess at to where they are and why. I loved books that can execute a mystery like this. Once I really got into the story there was no putting this book down. I craved to know what would happen next.
Alive is a gritty novel. It almost reminded me of Lord of the Flies and Red Rising. There are a good amount of characters who are all so different. I have to say I didn’t really got annoyed with all the characters, but some did grow on me. Em, the main character was hard to like at first because of her many conflicting emotions and self-doubt. Although she wanted to be the leader most of the time. But she grew so much in the end that I did end of really liking her. I also liked Bishop even though he was very impulsive, there was something about him that I liked and O’Malley, Spingate, and Gaston were also enjoyable characters. I did not like Aramovsky one bit.
The story development was great. I liked the plot and premise of this book. I can’t go into detail about it because that would be giving away the story. But it will take you by surprise. It was so brilliant and I really enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to read the next book
This book was so unique with great characters. Loved the entire trilogy
Only problem is the cliffhanger.
