Jessica was a nurse on an Earther ship that got stuck on another planet. Now she and her friend Michael-Michaela are getting ready to do some belly dancing so that they can attract the Kalquor clans that are there looking for Earther Mataras.
One of the clans she sees when she is dancing doesn’t seem to react to her when she’s dancing, and when she’s off stage she sees two of them talking and laughing about something when they are looking at her, which really hurts her feelings. So she’s bound and determined to stay away from them.
After the performance, when she’s brought to the leader of the clan, they get their freak on. The next morning, she assumes that they are wanting her to join their clan since that was the point of the performance, but when he tells her that his clan has an arranged Matara that they will be clanning with they return to Kalquor, she gets very, very angry with him because she feels used and terrible, especially since he was her first time. Earth’s restrictive government, which would kill her if they could, just for having sex, let alone having sex with an alien, has sent out propaganda for her entire life about how evil having sex outside of marriage is, and now she’s done it. So she tells him to get stuffed and walks away.
Lots and lots of really interesting things going on in this book, and I felt so sorry for Norpak.
Alien Rule is book two in Tracy St. John’s Clans of Kalquor series and it is awesome! Book one, Alien Embrace set the stage in this world and book two ramps it up!
We first met Jessica, an Earther, in book one, in her job in the military as a nurse. Earth has since deemed her for execution. Given no other choice, she trains with her best friend Michaela to perform a dance, and hopefully entice a Kalquor clan to save her. Kalquor clans are looking for Earthers to make Mataras of their clans after a virus decimated the female’s fertility on Kalquor. Earthers have been shown to be a good match and the very existence of Kalquor is in the balance.
Each Kalquor clan is made up of three Kalquor races: the Dramok-the clan leader, the Imdiko-the clan nurturer or healer, and the Nobek-the clan protector. They add a Matara as their clan female to give them heirs. The Matara’s are held to the highest honor. Jessica does catch the eyes of the clans in attendance, especially one of Prince Clajak’s clan. All three men are taken with the spitfire and soon want her for themselves. But they have a problem. Clajak’s clan has been promised to a Kalquor woman. There will be hell to pay in keeping Jessica for themselves, but all feel she is worth the risk.
I totally fell in love with Clajak and his clan, Egilka and Bevau. All three had their strong points and collectively they were oh so hard to say no to! Jessica fell hard and fast! I see why! Their attentiveness is the first thing you notice and then their kind and loving ways. Plus the sex is outta this world-literally!! Kalquor males have been blessed with an extra appendage and they use them to the best of their ability! I would think taking care of three men with rather rampant sex drives wouldn’t be for the weak and Jessica proves she’s got the right stuff!
The story is sound! The Prince’s clan is poised to take the throne of Kalquor and they must make the people want Jessica as their empress. Yes there is a ton of sex in this book, but there is a lot of story too! It has been re-written from the original version and has added another hundred plus pages! There is mystery and battles and sex oh my!
If sci-fi is your bag, then you must read the Clans of Kalquor series. I totally fell in love with it and I am sure you will too!
