Alice wants to leave the past behind her, but when it shows up in the form of an irresistible ex-football player turned underwear model, she has no choice but to revisit it.Being bullied by her high school boyfriend was a turning point for Alice Bando. She left the tiny town of Walker Springs for the bustling Bay Area and embraced the sexual identity that had led to nothing but pain as a … a teenager. But when the kind hero from that fateful night turns up at her job all the way across the country from their hometown, she has no choice but to confront her past.
Darius Fleck has had a thing for Alice since she dated his little brother over six years before. Now that they’re working together, he has a new chance to convince Alice he was the right one for her all along.
Climbing over the past to create a new future won’t be easy. But Alice and Darius just might be up for the challenge.
This is both a romance story and a personal journey. The heroine identifies as bisexual. There are scenes of bullying that may be a trigger for some readers.

4.5 stars Amy’s Wish is the 3rd book in Kay Harris’ Wish series and it can be read as a standalone. This is such a sweet book. In this series, four women with the same birthdays each made a wish with the goal of having achieved it by their next celebration. For Alice, she wants to get married, which is shocking to the group as she is very young. Alice is a great heroine – she has both strengths and flaws that make her relatable as a character. She is a survivor and a loyal friend, but she is a people pleaser who goes to great lengths to avoid confrontation which is something that I identified with. *There is a bullying incident at the beginning of the book where she was targeted by her boyfriend and his friends because she is bisexual. This scene is heartbreaking, but you can see just how strong a heroine she is.
I adored Darius as he is sexy and famous, yet he is down-to-earth, sweet, and loving. He is the ultimate book boyfriend. Alice and Darius knew each other in high school and he was so caring and supportive of her after the bullying incident. The two of them make a great couple and bring out the best in each other. I also liked how Everett played a prominent role in this book as I fell in love with him in Maya’s Wish.
Alice’s Wish is beautifully written and I like how the author respectfully incorporated a character who is bisexual. The main characters are likable and well developed and it was fun to see the characters from the previous books. This book is low on angst, but has both some humor and a bit of drama. I loved the epilogue and I am trying to patiently wait for Julie’s book.
Her boyfriend bullied her so in the end she left the small town behind to be who she really is. She is shocked when his younger brother appears and she has to work with them. They had always had a thing for her but can be prove to her he is the one for her? See if he cab

This was a pretty good story though I think that it could have been better. Alice is an interesting character but I don’t think her inner drives, emotional and sexual are explored nearly as much as I would have liked (she is a bisexual but this is barely dealt with). Nevertheless the take did hold my interest until the end and I do want to try more by this author.
Kay Harris, ‘Alice’s Wish’.
As a BetaBooks and Hidden Gem ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is.
English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4 stars (of 5).
In general:
Julia (38), the HR vice-president of the Candle company discovered that four girls of the factory had the same birthday. The four decide to annually celebrate their anniversary together. During the meeting each girl has to make a wish for the coming year and tell the others.
Thus far this resulted in three books by Kay Harris: first ‘Amy’s Wish’ and ‘Maya’s Wish’. And now we have a book about the youngest: ‘Alice’s Wish’. Hopefully we read more in a follow up about Julia herself.
About ‘Alic’s Wish’:
Main characters:
– Alice Bando.
An 23 year old bi-sexual girl with Asian family backgrond. She works on the
Sales Department ofTranquility Candle.
– Darius Fleck.
Ex-pro-football player. Now the new public spokesperson for the
company where Alice works. Alice and Darius met previously at high school.
He saved Alice when she was harassed by four football-players from his
schoolteam.
1. Overall impression: Sweet love story.
2. Characters.
* believable? The mostly, yes, but not all. All bad characters became good at the end. That was too sweet to be believable.
* actions fitting with personality? In general, yes; with the exception: see above.
* favorite characters? The main characters and Everett are sweet.
* unpleasant characters? Alice’s mom and aunts were a bit mean to the bi-sexuality of Alice at first and completely ignored her wishes and ideas.
3. The plot.
* good flow? Yes the plot was clear.
* inconsistencies? No inconsistencies only a question: Alice is bi, but we read only a little bit about her love relationships with other girls (see also 7, last point).
4. Unpleasant scenes? No.
5. Favourite scenes/moments? Chapter 2, Alice and Darius talking in the park. Both speak open and honest about their feelings.
6. The pace of the story? In general, ok. I had only some doubt about the flashbacks (in italics). Should one long flashback of the harassment scene not been better. Now the bad happening was divided in more parts and that resulted in telling sometimes things the reader already knew. But in general the book was an easy to read page turner. (Not too slow or too fast).
7. Comments? In general: A sweet love story, well written and interesting dialogues. A pleasure to read. But after the reading and thinking about the plot, I had a few doubts or questions.
* was the story not too sweet? At the end all the bad characters turned into good ones: Derek, Greg, Greta, Mom and aunts? And relatively poor Alice by Trudy (Everett’s mom) considered as a daughter and suddenly becoming a millionaire? Was all this luck not a bit overdone to be believable?
* Alice’s spouse list. The book comes also with this question: Why marry an unknown stranger (man/woman) chosen on rational qualities and without much feelings instead of Kyle (a very good friend) or Darius who helped her since the harassment? For me the author doesn’t give a convincing answer on this question.
* Kyle as Alice’s best friend since her youth. What exactly did he do for her to win her trust. Yes, give her help when she needed it. But what did he do more than Darius, she didn’t want to meet at first. And why did she hate Darius at first when he helped her during the harassment and tried to keep contact. Only because he was Derek’s brother and was a famous, wealthy football player? Are Alice’s hate-feelings not a bit artificial to create a nice ‘hate to love’ story?
* Alice is bi-sexual. But I read only a bit of her feelings for women: the short Greta affair and perhaps one potential spouse date with a woman. How believable was the lesbian side of her character?
