In this Modern Wicked Fairy Tale, Bart Lamplighter and Eddie Vizard are two conmen banded together to avoid riding the 1930s rails by grifting. While Bart is driving a newly acquired, brand new Duesenberg home to the city, he can’t help but stop to rescue a lovely damsel in distress at the side of the road. Elizabeth “Libby” Bancroft is a smart, sassy socialite who drinks and smokes and is an … and is an “old maid” at the ripe age of thirty-two, at least by society’s standards. She has very modern ideas about womanhood, like being able to drive herself around in her own car—and she also happens to be the richest heiress in the state.
Libby mistakes Bart for one of the wealthy Fogler clan and he doesn’t correct her mistake. When she invites him to stay at her palatial estate, he can hardly refuse. So Bart tells his partner, Eddie, to don a chauffeur’s outfit to act as Bart’s driver-slash-butler.
The two of them set out to spend a few weeks sponging off the rich, but the longer the deception continues, the harder Bart finds himself falling for the beautiful young heiress—and the harder it is to keep up the lie.
Then, when one of Eddie’s crazy schemes falls apart, Bart is forced to make a choice. Will he defy Eddie and risk telling Libby the truth or will he continue the con in order to save their hides?

A well written tale of a Will he or won’t he conundrum. The characters are fleshed out and fit the storyline. The accoutrements of dress, autos and mannerisms fit the authors intent of a period piece. A well worthwhile read.

So far this is my favorite. The characters were believable. I especially liked the grandmother, and did not expect the ending. Aladdin was true a friend and there was a climatic ending. Can’t wait for the next fairytale. As always a great read from Selena Kitt.

This was a nice quick read. I enjoyed this modern take of classic story. Selena Kitt never disappoints. I can’t wait to which fairy tale she’ll do next.

Part of the New Modern Wicked Fairy Tales series a quick short story to read. Two men Bart Lamplighter and Eddie Vizard are con men, one will stay with his old ways and one will fall in love with Elizabeth “Libby” Bancroft and try to change. There is a surprise near the end I thought cute.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Bart lamplighter was a charming man with heart but was grifter he and friend Eddie had been together for years and when Bart met Libby Bancroft on the side of the road and then went on picnic with her something about her touched his grifter heart but it was suppose to be all about the con. Libby realized that she was totally taken with the handsome man that stop to help her she decided to take him home with her. Just so happens that Libby is heiress to a fortune. Love the story line and the characters are very relatable. Enjoyed this version of the fairy tale. I was given a ARC from the author without obligation.
The main character, Bart, reminded me of Jay Gatsby with the heart of gold of Neil Caffrey from “White Collar.” Charm and a type of glitz, but with a moral sense, are the personality traits of Selena Kitt’s Aladdin retelling. A pleasant, feel good read with a bit spice that should please the romantics as well as titillate the rest of the readers.

This is an amazing story, nothing like I was expecting. I love the innocence the Libby portrays when meeting Bart. As for Bart he has always been trusting of Eddie it’s amazing he couldn’t figure out his con. Above all I love Frances, she is feisty and has taught
I by well. Most of all, Bart has demonstrated that he is a kind soul carries the guilt of others on his shoulders and is very respectful of his loved ones. Most of all it just boils down to the kindness you show others will come back when you least expect it. Although, this is not what I was expecting it’s keeps the meaning alive and well for Adults.

Even though this was a very interesting take on the fairy tale Aladdin. It did take a minute for me to really get into the story I’m glad I didn’t give up on it. Plenty of intrigue, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. I received a free copy via Booksprout I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Set in 1925, this adaption of Aladdin technically had all the bases covered. The wealthy socialite, the pair of con men, and the swindle. Although it was a good story, and one that held my attention, this one just didn’t hit the mark for me. I couldn’t become vested with the characters for some reason. Not everyone needs the same things from a story and normally I thoroughly enjoy Selena Kitt’s. I’m hoping it’s just me this time because I truly think she’s a talented author.
This is a quick read. I read it in a little over an hour. Bart is a conman that just inherited an expensive car & drives past Libby, who’s car has broken down. He helps get it running & then he accepts her invitation to picnic with her. During the picnic, she invites him to come stay with her & her grandmother. He accepts & when he goes home to get his clothes, his partner goes with him pretending to be his chauffeur & butler. They are planning a con. Bart can’t go through with the con because he’s fallen in love with Libby. He knows he has to tell her he’s been lying from the moment they meet & is hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
This does have the same premise as the fairy tale we all know–poor guy who cons/steals to get by & rich girl he falls for. I didn’t think the characters were as well developed as they could have been, but as this is such a quick read, it’s kind of expected. This is a period piece, guessing from description in the late 1920’s to early 1930’s. I would recommend this story of you are looking for a quick read on the low end of the erotic scale.
I really liked Libby and Bart, and in the end, even Eddie. This is set in the 20s, and we have our princess, our poor guy, and his evil buddy pulling the strings. Of course, emotions are front and centre, and our free-willed heroine is refreshing and fun, well ahead of her time. Bart has seen enough in the world, he sees how amazing she truly is. A nice build up of the relationship, and a really good build up of the suspense!

I thought this was a fun read. I liked Bart and Libby. The story was interesting and held my attention pretty well once it got going but it was a bit of a slow starter.
A well written tale of a “Will he or won’t he” conundrum. The characters are fleshed out and fit the storyline. The accoutrements of dress, autos and mannerisms fit the author’s intent of a period piece. A well worthwhile read.
Even if love starts as a lie if it’s meant to be it will find away to flourish and be something worth going the distance for. Selena has such a great way of writing and holding your attention as a reader. I look forward to reading more.

An interesting take on Aladdin, Bart is a conman by trade but meets the woman to change his ways. Libby is a rich woman who has no filter. In the Times of this book, that’s not a good thing. Eddie, Bart’s partner sees this as the golden opportunity. Of course Eddie has been doing cons a lot longer and has somewhat of a problem. A problem that keeps Bart from ever leaving the con world. I liked Bart and adored Libby. They make an interesting couple since they have very modern ideals. She is going to be the mover and shaker of the future.
This book makes you think and wonder what you can do to better your life. You see how love really does find a way to flourish even if it starts in a lie. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to figure out if it will be okay in the end.
