Can one woman solve the mystery of why a plane experienced deadly turbulence before the aviation company she works for is ruined with bad publicity?
The central question of “What really happened” does pull you through the novel and the sniping interactions between the main character and the reporter is wonderfully done (seriously, I wanted to …
great suspense, made into movie with Jodie Foster
If a book doesn’t grab me by page 100, I walk away. That almost happened here. By page 125, I was asking myself why I was still struggling. I did end up finishing it.
The first 12 pages, describing the doomed flight were suspense-filled. Then everything got technical and began to drag. Excruciatingly. The final 36 hours of the story were a roller …
This is the book I read on my first commercial cross country flight, what a choice! I will never forget it.
Well written, and especially timely with all the trouble Boeing is having with its 737-stretch airplanes.
A good look behind the scenes of the airline industry and broadcast journalism. Crichton uses an aircraft incident to explore intrigue and power struggles at an airframe manufacturer and the TV news team that tries to expose them. A little too technical at times and plodding in the story.
boring not realistic
Quick, interesting read. Not very deep but a fun time.
The story plot itself was very interesting, but I really enjoyed reading about the SAFETY measures that are built into a plane. It was also interesting how the media slants the stories to make them SENSATIONAL, instead of just reporting the facts.
corporate skullduggery. wonderful
To be fair, my rating is for the first two thirds of the book, because I could get no farther. I was so bored, like, gnawing at my fist bored. I kept waiting for the story to pick up but it never did (maybe it does in the last third? At that point I just didn’t care enough to find out). This is maybe a book for true airplane construction geeks, …
Airframe was so good. I learned a lot about the airplane industry and how it all works with the airports and airlines. And on top of that it was an exciting book in general. Michael Crichton is one of my favorite authors and this one did not disappoint. Loved it!!!
Amazing! It parallels the current Boeing 737 MAX controversy.
It challenges how we certify aircraft.
One of his typical who dunnits on a technical level.
I loved this book. It kept me guessing and had a great story. Highly recommend.
Though entertaining this was fairly predictable where it should have been suspenseful.
Great book especially in light of current events, Spring 2019.
Did not finish this book and would not recommend. I was very bored
Very technical about airplanes. Very typical/true to life characters with reporters going for emotion and what gets viewers attention rather than truth. Tells a lot about how planes are thoroughly inspected after an accident. Interesting that this is an older book but I was reading it during the problems of the 2 MAX plane crashes in 3/19 and …
I found this novel tedious and lost interest half way through. The characters were not developed well and there was too much aeronautics for me. It is a timely novel with the news of the grounded planes currently.
