I definitely need to start with all of these amazing covers. The first one is definitely what caught my attention to the series, but my favourite cover is definitely the last one. I feel like this shows Vhalla’s growth as a character! All the covers are absolutely stunning though and suit each book perfectly.
Air Awakens was a very strong debut but I did not start loving this series until book two. It’s definitely everything you could ever want in a debut novel, it’s got a solid premise, relatable characters and amazing relationship development as well as entertainment. There was times when I laughed and times when I felt other emotions like shock and anticipation, but I did feel the pacing was a little fast in this book.
Vhalla get’s ‘awoken’ into her powers in a pretty spectacular way, and after she is told she struggles with the notion that she is now a sorcerer. Ironic, seeing as her powers are highly sought after and thought to be something that doesn’t exist any more. Once aware of her new state she is given a choice to accept her new fate and train as a sorcerer or eradicate her powers completely. I love how the character progression between Vhalla and Aldrik goes throughout the book and although much of the first half the book focuses on her overcoming her misinformed perception of sorcerers and fear of rejection by her friends, it’s definitely worth the read.
The pacing definitely slows down a little with book two, which is amazing because you can delve further into the story and fall in love, but there’s a lot more action to compensate. Although this book furthered the story, I feel it focused more on developing characters. The side characters in this book are fantastic and really make the story flow. The ending will have you on the edge on your seat too.
Earth’s End picks up right where Fire’s Falling ends, and thankfully satisfies all our questions about whats happened. While Vhalla may be the Emperor’s pawn she’s also a force to be reckoned with. Thankfully the self-doubting Vhalla is gone and has been replaced with the girl who knows she’s more powerful than everything thinks, and there are several parts of the book where she showcases her affinity for her powers.
There are a few new characters inroduced in Earth’s End, which means new allicances are formed, as well as the rift between the princes being to close. I also love how the character development means there’s a sibling-esque relationship between Baldair and Vhalla. Some characters get neglected a little as well but it’s all for a good reason. Just like Fire’s Falling, we are left with another cliff hanger, as well as some explosive twists and turns which take note on charater and reader emotions.
By the time we get to Water’s Wrath you, as a reader, will feel like you have been through everything with Vhalla. She’s gone from being a shy librarian to a powerful Windwalker. There will be times where you had doubts for Prince Aldrik but I promise you this book will make you wish you hadn’t! I had tears in my eyes at some points in this book and words cannot describe how much I loved it. Devoured in one morning!
Crystal Crowned is everything you want in a book for the end of a series. It’s dark, ugly and bleak, you’re emotions are constantly thrown from good to bad, happy to crying. Our heroes are doing everything they possibly can to defeat the corrupt evil that has taken over their world, while still holding onto one small bit of happiness.
Overall this series has taken a deep root in my heart and is a must read for every fantasy lover. It’s easy to read, as well as gripping from the very start. I well and truly loved this series.
There are not enough positive words to describe how amazingly fantastic this series is.
The story of a library apprentice turned sorceress and the prince she loves, a man who admittedly is a complete jerk when we first meet him. The series is wonderfully developed and we come to find the strength in the former library girl and the humanity in the jerk prince. I love this series.
