Welcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so … And just so we’re clear… that would be me.
So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.
But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

This book has been sitting in my TBR pile since forever. I am a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett’s hockey hunks and was intrigued by this small town series written under her pen name Juliette Poe then changed to SB.
What’s not to love about a sweet and sassy, sweet tea and moonshine drinking, small town lawyer who never forgot the the one who got away? Trixie is a little ray of sunshine and her love of her hometown Whynot and her family is everything. Ryland is the boy who got away. He is a tall glass of sexy big city lawyer and he will melt the ice cubes in your tea.
Eleven long years apart only proved they were meant to be together. I enjoyed reading this sweet small town, second chance romance and look forward to the rest of the books in the series.
TBR and Enjoy
P.S. this is a closed door/fade to black romance
This book is a fairly quick read, as will be this review!
This book was fun, light, and quirky. As we all know, I tend to be a sucker for a second chance, small town romance. I don’t know what it is about them, but I seem to devour them. I am a little mad at myself for waiting so long to read this one.
This book has some really fun, spunky characters. What would a small town book be without fun, spunky characters? Small town characters always make or break a book. Am I right? These characters certainly make this book!
The reason for the hero re-entering the heroine’s life seems to be the focus, at first. It ended up being an afterthought. This little tidbit did leave me scratching my head. It was such a small thing, it made me wonder why the heroine sought out the hero for this. But, hey, it worked.
I enjoyed this book. It had some funny parts that had me giggling. It’s a pretty fun book wrapped up in just a few pages.
Such a great fun read to kick off this series with!
Trixie and Ry had an amazing 3 year long relationship while they were in law school. Then Trixie decided to move back home, she headed to North Carolina and he stayed in Boston. 11 years later, yes 11 years!!, Trixie is need of help on a case she’s working on and she turns to Ry. When Ry sees her for the first time in years he’s wondering why they ever split up. Can these two get a second chance at love after all this time?
Laughter and smiles is what this book brought to my day while I devoured it in just a few hours. It’s the perfect way to launch this series. You’ll be hooked right from the start. When you wrap this one up you’ll be wanting to dive right into book two!
I absolutely love and adore a good compromise when it comes to second chance romances and this one was knocked out of the park.
These two lovebird lawyers had hit it off back in law school, but the future for them held different things. Eleven years later, they’re back in one another’s lives and that old flame has quickly burst to life.
We got the backstory throughout the story as their love was rekindled… because let’s be honest did it ever really go out? Ray and Trixie have both matured and are able to work out what didn’t work out for them before. I hope to see some of their future in the next several books because they’re flipping adorable!
This was a short, fun second chance at love.
There were 3 POV- Pap (Trixie’s Grandpap & Best Friend), Trixie and Ryland. Pap seems to be the one that introduces and ends the story which is different yet very enjoyable. Wouldn’t mind hearing more of his story.
Starts off slow just getting into the storyline but then it becomes a fun and humorous journey. There is the tension on if they get back together and if they do, how they will stay together. Trixie lives in the country of NC while Ry is in the heart of Boston, two worlds apart so it is hard to see who will compromise.
I was giving this book a try to see if I would be interested in the series and boy am I excited to continue!
This was a fun, entertaining, and heartwarming second chance romance. I enjoyed everything about this book
I’m a Southern Gal and this book hit home in so many ways. I found it a wondel-humor and romance. Enjoyed this book alot.
Awesome Awesome book
If you’re looking for a book that’s sweet and swoony, with a little bit of heat and a whole lot of Southern charm, then this is the one for you!
Ryland and Trixie are great together. They’re so different but yet so similar at the same time. She’s country, he’s city, but together all those differences don’t matter because of the history they share and the love they once had.
It’s hard not to have a bit of a girl crush on Trixie. She’s confident, put together, and happy with her small town life. The only thing missing is love.
Ryland is successful, sexy, and full of big city swagger. But being in Trixie’s small town shows him there’s a whole other world out there, one that holds more appeal than he originally though.
You’re gonna love this second-chance romance. And I can’t wait to read more in this series! I already see several characters that DEFINITELY need their stories told…fingers crossed!
I have to say if this is how Sawyer Bennett writes I’ve been missing out a lot…This was such a beautiful second chance love story…I loved every page of it…I felt all the angst, love and lust…I loved the family ties and of course let’s not forget good ol’ Pap’s’..’I highly recommend this book!!
I really liked this book. Being from Alabama i understand the lingo and our need for sweet tea. Trixie and Ry dated and were in love while in law school. In the end she couldn’t stay in Boston with him. Tricia was deeply connected to her family and just couldn’t live away from them. Years later Tricia contacts him asking for assistance with a case. Naturally he comes to help. After that, it gets interesting and at times so funny. I think you will like this. I won’t tell any more. I’ll leave the good parts for your enjoyment. Pour a glass of wine, get comfortable and start reading!
Family
This is a wonderful story about a girl who go North to become a lawyer but who’s heart in always in the south. But her love lives in Boston. Can they make it work after being apart four 11years when she calls for help.
Ain’t He Precious is a sweet second chance romance with heat, emotion and a definite ‘swoon factor’!
“I laugh. The people in this town are nuttier than squirrel sh*!.”
One of the things I love a small town romance for is the quirky characters that inhabit these towns. This author populates Whynot, North Carolina with some people who I know I’m going to want to read more about!
I loved this story and can’t wait to read more of this series!
-5 Stars!-
This is a light hearted low angst second chance story. It is kind of like city mouse vs. country mouse. Ryland is 100% city while Trixie is 100% small town country. Ryland and Trixie are both lawyers who split 11 years ago due to that North vs. South living arrangements thing. For those of us living in the south we can understand all things south. Those readers from up north will get some southern education. Quick paced story that won’t take long to read. This little town has some quirky characters who you just love. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger. Oh, and you gotta love Pap. He tells it like it is.
READING PROGRESS
I was not sure what to expect from this book but I can honestly say I loved it! This was a sweet, sexy, fun read about second chance romance between the big city lawyer Ryland and the small town lawyer Trixie! You will fall hard for this couple that you’ll be cheering them on too! Enjoyed this book so much that I finished it in a day.
Sweet, sexy, southern charm in a small town
I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Juliette Poe’s upcoming release “Pretty as a Peach” which is book 4 in the Sex and Sweet Tea series and so I thought it was only right to start the series where it began and read the first three books. So that leads me to “Ain’t He Precious?” which unexpectedly surprised me with its sweet second chance romance about two lawyers who’s college romance was broken up when Ry decided to go to big city Boston and take up a lucrative position in a well known law from and Trixie headed home to Whynot, North Carolina – a small town of 3872 inhabjitant – and become the town lawyer. When Trixie calls Ry to help with a case and he readily goes to visit her, sparks reignite, a strong connection is reformed and they both begin question why they broke up in the first place.
I’m new to Juliette Poe (and also to Sawyer Bennet, the author behind this alter ego) and I can safely say this is an author I will definitely be reading more of. I’m a big fan of small town romance. I love the relationships between all the characters – especially the secondary ones – as they are just that much closer. With a small town romance, the town and its people become a crucial part of the story and in the Sex and Sweet Tea series I’ve become enamoured with Whynot and the Mancinkus family – especially Paps, it’s a novel and brilliant idea to give the grandfather a few of his own POV chapters, they were some of my favourite parts of the entire book. I’m super keen to read about the rest of the family – starting next with Lowe – and I’m so glad I found another author to fall in love with!!

A fun read, enjoyed it. A light read
Not a great literary piece, but a fun read and a nice love story.
What a debut book for author Juliette Poe. Ain’t He Precious for me anyway has it ALL!! Small town romance, second chance love, and a spectacular HEA!!!
Trixie Mancinkus and Ryland Powers fell in love while attending Harvard Law School, both were top of their class. Both had been slated to work for one of the top law offices in Boston and planning their future. Then, Trixie did the unthinkable, she moved back home to Whynot, North Carolina, leaving Ryland broken hearted.
Whynot, North Carolina was the place where Trixie grew up, where her family still lived. The place where she opened her own law offices. The place where she invited Ry to come after graduation, but he refused and stayed in Boston.
Now, eleven years later, Trixie needs help with a case, and she thinks of Ry, the man, and the love she never forgot. When Ry arrives in Whynot, and sees Trixie again, the love he had for her starts to resurface. He begins to see why this town means so much to Trixie.
While talking to Pap, Trixie’s grandfather, she begins to see the biggest mistake she has ever made and… Stop, no spoilers. Let me say this, you will love what happens here.
I absolutely loved this book and watching Ry and Trixie realize how much they still loved each other. I loved the interaction between the characters both primary and secondary.
I loved the writing of Ms. Poe. Her writing reminds me of another writer, Sawyer Bennett. There is a reason for this, a very big reason…. They are one in the same. This is Ms. Bennett’s “sweet side” as she describes it.
If you like Ms. Bennett’s writing, and sweet romance, as well as HOT, you will love this book! I know I did!!
Kudos Ms. Poe/Bennett on another fantastic journey into romance. I was gifted with a copy of this wonderful book for my honest opinion.
Thank you for reading my review.
Fun, quick and lite!
