PBS fitness personality on Classical Stretch and creator of the fitness phenomenon Essentrics, Miranda Esmonde-White offers an eye-opening guide to anti-aging that provides essential tools to help anyone turn back the clock and look and feel younger no matter what age. Miranda Esmonde-White trains everyone from prima ballerinas to professional hockey players to Cerebral palsy patients: what do … Cerebral palsy patients: what do they all have in common? All of these people are hoping to heal their bodies, prevent further injury, and move optimally and without pain. In fact, they have the same goals as any of us who are trying to stay young, fit, and reverse the hands of time.
Because the aging of our bodies occurs in our cells, it must be repaired there too—that’s where Miranda’s highly effective and sought-after techniques come in. The body is programmed to self-destruct as we age, but the speed at which it self-destructs is up to us. Recent scientific studies have proven this fact! In Aging Backwards, Miranda offers a groundbreaking guide on how to maintain and repair our cells, through scientifically designed workouts.
Healthy cells prevent joint pain, muscle loss and weak bones—helping to control weight, increase energy, and improve strength and mobility. Miranda offers readers of all ages the tools they need to look and feel young. Complete with tips, tools, and her Eight Basic Age-Reversing Workouts accompanied by instructional photos and web clips, Aging Backwards will help you grow younger, not older!

Well researched and useful information into how important it is that we keep our bodies limber and strong. Good descriptions on how yo do each movements, but I also used their YouTube videos to understand some positions.
Stretching is so important to fight aging. Miranda White explains how to fight aging with easy to follow directions. I liked the book so much I purchased a DVD of hers too.
I was given this book by a family member to help me heal my body, in particular, my back…Thank You.
“Our bodies want to move.” (quote from the book)
I have always been a competitive person when it comes to sports. As I have aged, my competitiveness lessened a bit, but my eagerness to throw myself into working out has not. I have always been reluctant to stretch. I’ve dabbled in yoga and once took a class in Tai Chi…they were always too slow for me. But twenty-twenty-hindsight and decades later, I am paying the piper…cue the music!
“The process of disks drying out can begin in our mid-twenties, and ends in our mid-sixties, this is why back pain strikes 25-to 65-year olds most often.” (quote from the book)
In September, it all came to head again. Flat on my back and in severe pain, I knew I had to change not only my workouts, but my attitude (you can teach an old dog new tricks). I signed up online with Essentrics, and I am making myself slow down in my movements and it is definitely helping!
“Movement is a natural part of all healing and should not be dismissed as optional.” (quote from the book)
I found this book well laid out, informative, relatable with a dose of humor and included real life stories that helped to prove slow and steady wins the race. There are pictures showing movements to practice to get you started. Ms. Esmonde-White also states that if you are injured or in pain, first speak with your doctor or physiotherapist…do not depend on self-diagnosis. One should never work in pain.
“Doing nothing is a sin of omission rather than commission. Doing nothing is a choice to let your body decay before its time. Doing something is the choice to stay vital, healthy, and youthful.” (quote from the book)
Reading this book has given me a deeper understanding of how everything is connected and how gentle exercise, especially Essentrics, help to keep the body flexible, improve balance, straighten your posture, and even helps to speed weight loss. It also is teaching me that I don’t have to kill myself in order to stay fit at any age!
I highly recommend this book and the program!
Sound advise and easy to follow. After getting it in ebook form, I bought a hard copy from Amazon as I wanted to use it for stretching without having to refer to my phone.
Meh. Waste of my time.
This book has a lot of useful information. I am following some of the recommendations and beginning to feel better.
My husband and I (ages 68 and 70) have been doing the exercises in this book for a couple of weeks. We like them, and are starting to see good benefits.
First, let’s be clear. There is no such thing as “aging backwards” so the title already bothers me as being deceptive. Throughout her book, she does tell you how exercise and flexibility can help you enjoy life more and give you more energy, but this is a far cry from aging backwards. The exercises she shows in the book are OK, but really the book is a huge sales pitch to get you to buy her videos. My recommendation is skip the book and go straight to one of her videos.
I liked this book but found I wasn’t sure what I should be doing with the different exercise programs.
Contains some reliable, researched information on exercise and other action to promote healthy aging.
Too much lecturing, not enough solid guidance
A good set of exercises to slow or reverse symptoms of aging that anyone can do at home with little or no equipment. Exercises include stretching, balance and strength. A set of exercises is given for posture, strength, energy, balance, joints, pain relief, mobility, bone strength, and weight loss. There is some repetition. The author says they can be done in 30 minutes, But this is misleading – at 30 minutes a day it will take nearly a week to work through the entire set of exercises.
A must read to aging -backwards people!
Lots of interesting thoughts about aging and exercise.
I felt that it just quit before the topic was finished.
I think her philosophy is sound. I feel gray as I’ve implemented the exercises. The book tends to be a little wordy as she goes into long explanations.
