War hero and daughter to two Houses, Kira is just beginning to learn how deep the rabbit hole goes.Agreeing to accompany her father’s people back to their homeworld, Kira Forrest prepares for the fight of her life. She’s agreed to undertake the Trial of the Broken, a rite of passage every member of her father’s House must pass. It offers a path to independence and freedom that is too tempting to … is too tempting to deny.
Not everyone welcomes this lost daughter of Roake. There are those who fear what her presence might bring to light. Betrayal stalks the halls of Kira’s birthplace—its roots embedded deep in the events that claimed her parent’s lives and set her on her current path.
Walking the wire’s edge between truth and deception will test the person Kira has become as she separates ally from betrayer. An old enemy has put into motion a plan that could topple the balance of power in the universe. Letting them succeed spells doom—but the price might be more than Kira is willing to pay.

“Age of Deception” by TA White is the sequel to “Rules of Redemption” and every bit as good. The relationships and emotion add compelling depth to the action. The plot twists are fascinating. I love learning more about this world. A fabulous space fantasy.
(Reminds me of Ilona Andrews’ Innkeeper Chronicles)
An edge of your seat must read! It has romance, intrigue, hiss worthy villains and adventure. What more do you need. I highly recommend this book!
I currently have two series that I reread every year. This will be the third. If I had a superpower it would be the ability to wave a wand and get book 3 in this series instantly. This second installment ticks all the boxes for me. You have detailed world building, an immersive storyline, a heroine who is powerful but vulnerable sassy but not disrespectful. There are secrets and lies, betrayal, the sheer satisfaction of watching Kira outwit people who underestimate her, and the delicious slow burn steamy romance with Graydon. I love how well thought-out each side character is with their unique personalities and vivid dialogue. I really really hate that we don’t already have book 3. note to the author: I would have one clicked this even if it was three times more expensive. Raise your rates. Stories like this are so hard to come by.
Note: I received an ARC for an honest review.
I have been anticipating Age of Deception since the moment I finished Rules of Redemption last year. Rereading Rules of Redemption over, and over…and over only heightened my anticipation, and my worry. I loved Rules of Redemption. I loved Kira, Jin, Graydon, and literally almost every other character. The writing was beautiful, the characters were magnificent, and the plot drew me in right away. Needless to say, it was love at first read. So, after my months of pinning, I was worried that Age of Deception would be much less than my expectations.
This will teach me to not underestimate T.A. White because Age of Deception DID NOT DISAPPOINT. One hundred percent 4.5-5 stars. I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more and I feel even more in love with Kira’s story. If you are worried that you will be disappointed, don’t be. White stays true to her characters and creates an even more interesting and developed plot.
Age of Deception picks up where Rules of Redemption left off…
*Spoiler Alert for those who have not read Rules of Redemption, although I don’t know why you would be reading this review*
Graydon pulling a fast one on Kira and shifting her house from House Luatha to House Roarke. The focus of the rest of the book takes place within House Roarke where we learn even more about the Tuann world. Well known characters from the first book make an appearance with Kira on this new adventure of growth and understanding.
If I had to characterize the gist of Age of Deception, I would say character development and growth. Throughout the book you see more of Kira, mentally, emotionally, and even relationally. If the first book set the scene, this book dug into development and fleshing out the story. Through learning more about Kira, we discover deeper elements of her story that were left a mystery in book one. The book also introduces new characters that are detailed and naturally relatable, while still holding on to important ones like Jin and Graydon. Age of Deception might be a little bit of a slower read, but it offers so much more in little details that reading it multiple times will be necessary of course 🙂
I devoured this book. I loved the banter between Kira and Jin, the new Tuann information, and the relationship between Kira and Graydon. Kira drew me in in the first book because of sarcasm, wit, and overall personality. Her growth in the second book has been beautiful to read about. I absolutely can not wait for the third book as T. A. White sure knows how to throw a cliffhanger. All in all, a wonderful sequel to Rules of Redemption that I can not wait to read again 🙂
I’m completely obsessed with this world! Slow burn.
Holy Crap, that ending! I’m so happy to what was revealed. It just shows there is so much more to come, and I can not wait!
Refer to my review of the first book to see what draws me to this series. Everything still stands. We just get to learn a little bit more in this 2nd book and we get to enjoy the development of the characters and their relationships.
Fascinating, brave characters and brilliant world-building, paired with a complicated, twisting, ever-evolving plot make this novel a 5-Star read.
The riveting characters of Kira and Graydon continue their adventures and romantic entanglement in this second entry in the Firebird Chronicles. They’ve returned to the Tuann home world, where Kira faces a trial challenge that will test her physical strength while the planet’s sentient core works to heal her badly damaged internal powers. Of course, nothing is ever simple for these two unusual protagonists and the complicated secrets Kira keeps threaten both her survival and those around her. Can she trust Graydon with some of those secrets or will his commitment to the Tuann people and Emperor force him to stand against her?
I can’t wait for the next entry in this ongoing tale of high adventure and noble goals.
