My name is Anna Dawson, and I’m a gambler. And like any gambler will tell you, sometimes that’s good, and sometimes…not so much. And sometimes it’s an outright problem.I love Vegas, and I love the life I’ve built, but when one of my friends is murdered, and another one shot at, I know I need to take a serious look at myself. And I need to call in the big guns. Even if that means teaming up with … Even if that means teaming up with Detective Jack Schiller, a man who’s battling his own demons.
Right now I’m just trying to juggle protecting my friends, helping Jack while not letting him get too close, and finding a murderer. And, oh yeah, no one can learn about my gambling.
Or this will be the last hand I’m dealt.

Question of the week: “What’s a book you’ve read in one sitting?”
The most recent book I’ve read in one sitting is Mara Jacob’s Against the Odds.
This is the first in a series, Anna Dawson Mystery Series, and the only one I have read so far. Anna, or Hanna, is a gambler. Mostly a poker player. Possibly addicted to gambling. But it’s her …
This is a very good book, you don’t want to put it down. Highly recommend
really a fun book to read with a plot twist
A story about Anna Dawson who is addicted to gambling. It shows how sad and scary that is. I learned alot.
An easy read that made me feel good!
Didn’t crab me.
Very entertaining and well written. Loved the story and characters.
I read this book shortly after I vowed to stick with first books in a series for a while. Call me disloyal, but I was tired of the let-down I felt when a series I loved at the beginning floundered under the weight of the emotional baggage imposed on its core characters as the series progressed.
Against all Odds convinced me that I’d made the …
Interesting characters. I have to like the characters, but the main character has some ethical failings, which makes me like her not so much. Plot is entertaining.
For me I enjoy this book a lot because living in the small town that I do I don’t see the crazy parts of the world that are loan sharks and death but this book pulls you in and makes you think you are standing right there watching it all happen.
This book starts at a slow pace but picks up as soon the detective shows up and an intricate love develops between him and the lead character who also was a suspect . The characters are drawn very realistically, the ending is a surprise. The world of gambling is shown in great detail with all its intricacies . Sustains reader interest.

I am a gambler. I understand the main character. To throw in a mystery
along with gambling is fun.
Great book about bad habits.
I loved all of the Anna Dawson books so much that when I read an excerpt of the fourth I wouldn’t buy it. She is on her own and it seemed lonely especially if you have read her 3 previous books. I contacted the writer and she understood. She hasn’t started the 5th of the series yet. The author has a way of bringing characters together with such …
Great characters, great storyline. Kept me interested, hard to put down. Can’t wait to get a hold of the next book in the series!
If you are familiar with Vegas and the process of gambling, you might enjoy this.
This is a great book. Hard to put it down.
Fairly predictable characters with an interesting premise. Not a bad time waster
