Patience has always been Caleb Whitetail’s strength. Quiet and unassuming is what you see with the GFI investigator, but the blood boils hot right under the surface. He kept his distance for years only to see the woman who has held his attention almost lose her life not just once, but twice. He is done standing in the shadows.
Katie Acker, once a tough and athletic security specialist now … now struggles daily to walk. The closest to family she has are her colleagues at GFI. Especially the man who saved her life and always has her back. So when she unwittingly becomes the focus of a Mexican cartel, it’s no big surprise she finds him right by her side.
With the combustive change in their deepening bond, Katie and Caleb do not see the oncoming danger – until it surrounds them.

Caleb was a dream! To find a hero that is willing to wait for so long for the woman he believes is his one, just gives me all the feels! I love how protective he was of Katie and how he didn’t even bat an eye when she was seriously injured and needed some major rehab. What is there not to love about him?
Katie is a great characters as well. What she goes through after being injured takes a lot of bravery. I was so happy to see her and Caleb finally get together. What kept them a part at first is not my favorite scenario but it is real and ultimately showed how much Caleb had fallen for her. I really love to see that in a hero.
The storyline as usual was awesome! I’m a big fan of this authors writing and how she can pull me into a book so easily. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
Auidobook: Narrators – Tanya Eby & Noel Harrison
Another great narration by two performers who really know how to bring this author’s characters to life, vocally. I’ve enjoyed each book I’ve listened to them narrate and they are becoming the voice of this series.
I loved both Caleb and Katie! The fact that Caleb waited for four years for her was amazing! He was fierce in his protectiveness of her and grumbly when another man smiled or came near. All the things that make me love a hero! Add in the danger and drama that surround this couple and this book skyrocketed into the stratosphere!
The relationship is believable, the chemistry absolutely scorching and the plot kept me on my toes from beginning to end. There’s no question I’m in love with this series and only growing more in love with it the further I travel through it.
I have fallen in love with this series by Freya Barker! Each books gives you a heroine who can kick a** and take names (Her aim with a gun could be deadly) plus the hero who fits perfectly with her own strengths. Together they make it all through thick and thin they survive for their HEA that will include a stray dog, Blue, who’ll protect Katie with his life if needed. Caleb will have some sadness of his own with his parents but when GFI, FBI, Sheriff and the crew will need his brother Malachi to bring the Mexican Cartel to his knees. All of the men and women of Cedar Tree will be there to lend their support to Katie and Caleb.
Katie Acker doesn’t realize that her rehab center has ties to the Cartel until one of the nurses are killed. Caleb will bring her home and protect her home to Cedar Tree and convince her that 4 years of waiting on the sidelines for her is done it’s time to let her know how he feels. Her desire to walk again will progress towards success but remember in her wheelchair her aim with a gun will be lower so I’ll let you envision what will happen to one of the hired killers.
Caleb Whitetail is tasked with finding out if his brother is involved with a drug cartel’s missing shipment and he’ll have to go back to Shiprock, NM reservation to deal with his family. But when a fire at his parents home taking his mother, he know if they can hurt Katie also. I love how everyone protects each other and when both Katie and Caleb are given a surprise it will hard to keep the secret. The ending will be beautiful and you’ll be anxious to start on the next book in the series.
This is book 3 in the Cedar Tree series and I think it may well be my favorite. All of the characters from the previous two books make their appearances and their lives are interconnected professionally and personally. Caleb has always appeared to be the strong silent type, however, his emotions run deep. Although he thought the woman he was attracted to was involved with a friend, he buried his feelings and worked beside Katie without letting his emotions show. However, when she was injured in the line of duty, he became her fiercest protector. While she thought he was merely a friend, the man’s passion smoldered until she is put into danger and he can no longer fight the urge to make her his.
Still doing rehab from her injury, Katie assumes Caleb is just playing protector and that he feels sorry for her because of her condition. She soon finds out everything she thinks is wrong: from the case that the team is working on, to her self image, to the passion Caleb feels for her. What I love about this series is that the characters are not perfect, they do not have perfect pasts and they make mistakes. Being a bit older than the couples in most books, they don’t play the games that many couples do but miscommunication is still a universal problem. I love the community of Cedar Tree and the familial bond that all the characters have, even though they don’t share a bloodline. I often tell people my closest family aren’t related by blood, but by the heart. So it goes in Cedar Tree. Read the series and see for yourself, but beware of bunnies.
Throughout this series Caleb we have gotten to see a little of his caring and compassionate side. The way he as stepped up and spent so much time with Katie during her recovery was not a surprise to me. It was fun to see his alpha male come out a little when he was pushing Katie to get back into existence and leave the hospital. His take charge work ethics coming out in full force. And when he was forced to face his past head on, I think it was a little easier for him to do know he was helping to keep Katie safe. As much as he wants to look after and keep her safe he knows that she is not willing to sit back and let them take over, so he keeps her involved in the investigation as much as possible. It is not a wonder that Caleb would be my favorite of the series so far.
We had only seen little glimpse of Katie in the previous books. I can’t even imagine the devastation of going from the fierce GFI agent to being injured so badly you are confined to a wheelchair. I think Katie’s character growth is the most substantial so far. As her past dictated she truly felt she was not worthy of true friendship and love. It takes her some serious soul searching along with a little friendly push to see everyone is worthy. When you find the right people to include in your life they won’t care about the past but more about the person you have become. To be able to sort through all this while trying to watch your six and figure out who the hell it trying to kill your ass and why. I am certain that I would have succumbed to the stress, where Katie just kept pushing along.
Watching Caleb and Katie open up to each other and find their way to happiness was superb. Freya, they just keep getting better and better. I am sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what you have in store for us next with the Cedar Tree gang.
From the moment Katie was first injured in Slim to None, I’ve been craving this story. I saw how devoted Caleb was to her, always at her bedside, helping in her recovery.
I was so relieved to see that it didn’t take Katie forever to figure out her feelings for the man that supported her through everything. They were exceptional together!
I loved all aspects of Caleb. Yes, he’s an alpha, yes he’s protective, but wow these two just lit up the sheets like nobody’s business!
As for the suspense, the plot just keeps getting better and better. So many unexpected twists with this third book. So many unpredictable moments. Absolutely loved the ending of this one!
