This book is the start of a new series, a view into the Monty & Strong world from another group‘s perspective. DAMNED has some serious responsibilities and they kick butt while taking care of them. Plenty of action, the expected snarky dialog, new villains, fun side characters, and two kick-ass ladies who take on the bad guys. The fact that one is a werebear is just added fun.
Probably my favorite lines from this book:
“Those two are going to give me a stroke, I swear. Is Widow ready?”
“Yes ma’am, if you mean that monstrosity you call a vehicle.”
“I doubt Cecil would appreciate you calling her a monstrosity.” ….
“Fine, that automotive abomination of atrocious aesthetics, then.”
“You’ve been saving that, haven’t you?”
“At least a week.”
“It doesn’t have to be pretty. It needs to be functional. Just like me.”
“Can’t recall anyone calling you pretty, that’s for sure.”
“I have a hammer that can adjust your memory. Keep it up.”
“That’s what she said.”
This is another book by Mr. Sanchez that I didn’t want to put down until I got to the end – and even then I still wanted more! Can’t wait until the next one comes out!
A new, different perspective from the Peaches-verse, and it was a blast. You get to hear of some of the ramifications from the exploits of the Destructive Trio, but in an entirely new story about a separate group with a differing threat. Adds richness to this verse while following a Protector and her team, usually responsible for cleanup, quell their own monstrous problems. A whole bunch of fun.
After the Heroes are done, Who protects the city?
Another great start to a new series, set in the World of the Montague & Strong Detective Agency. Learn who protects the city from the creatures, the unknown things that threaten the very fabric of existence. Ursula has made a deal with a god, gained a powerful weapon and her only goal? Protect the Nexus points as only she can. Because if the Mourn Horde gains entrance to our world, all life will end.
Orlando a. Sanchez continues his prolific output of Urban Fantasy novels, a Master Wordweaver in action.
Orlando Sanchez delivers an awesome introduction to Ursula and her team with Aftermath. From the beginning this book is an awesome ride. We meet the DAMNED, the team tasked with investigating strange occurrences and maintaining the balance of runic energy in the City. Ursula and her team, Dak and Yoté, protect the Nexus points, fight the Mourn, and are general all around bad – asses. Don’t start this book before bedtime if you have anything important to do the next day. You won’t want to put it down until you’re finished and you’ll be asking for more when you’re done with Aftermath!
