Austin Huntley and Cameron Nash are like night and day. One is a family man, works in a nice office, drives an expensive car, and is content to be content. The other one is an antisocial car mechanic with a short fuse. Some things don’t change. Others definitely do. After surviving a five-month long kidnapping together, they struggle to return to normalcy, all while realizing that they’re more … that they’re more drawn to each other than they ever could’ve imagined.
“I know I’m not normal, but I’m not fucking stupid.”
“Define normal,” Austin countered quietly, meeting Cam in the doorway. “And for not being normal, you’re the only person in the world who makes sense right now. What does that say about me?”

I can readily see this come true in real life, tragedy can do weird things to the mind, especially how it happens in this book. You have to take this story on what happens to the characters and not throw stones . Very, very interesting book.
I wasn’t sure I was going to get into this book – strange subject – but as the characters developed, I enjoyed it more and more.
TRAGICLY BEAUTIFUL
Heartbreaking is an understatement
I love how the storyline was set in the Flashbacks & Nightmares of Austin and Cam. It made for a more transcendent experience as a reader to such a devastating ordeal.
It was completely different from anything I’ve ever read.
An all consuming read I won’t soon forget.
When I first started reading this story I honestly was bored and almost DNF, but I am damn happy that I continued because I loved it.
I loved the connection these two had, after everything they went through together it made their connection and understanding of each other so much stronger and more passionate.
Cara was able to have me going through so many emotions, anger (at Austin’s wife, I seriously wanted to throw my kindle a few times), hurt every time there was a flashback, happy when they started getting closer than friends and just an overall feeling of wow. This story was really well written, so intriguing and totally captivating.
Let me first say, this book was not an easy read and you will need a few tissues for this story!
Even though it was intense and raw most of the time, the road to their HEA was so beautiful and worth every single second of my time.
I ordered this book because of its advertisement on BookBub. I was intrigued by the write-up and I wasn’t disappointed. I read it in a couple of days and instantly got the second book. A new author for me but I will look for more after this great two book series.
Such an amazing heartbreaking book. Loved everything about it. Excited to read the next book!!
Wow, what an amazing story. This mm contemporary tale occurs after a horrific event for both main characters. There is a dark side to this story but it has handled well. I love everything this amazing author has written. Off to read outcome.
Austin and Cam!!! I loved t his story so so much!! It was given to me by another author and I am forever grateful! This is the story of 2 men(out of 10) who have been kidnapped by a crazy older man. They are taken out of the blue and kept in a basement in cages in pairs. Austin and Cam are put together in a cell. They could not be more different. Austin is into numbers and tax law the definition of a suit. Cam is into cars and giving attitude. Hee also has Aspergers Syndrome and hates confined spaces and people. To say they get along great from the beginning is a lie it does not start well for them. Lots of learning how to deal with each other I the situation given.
They all have roles in captivity the kidnapper calls them by the names of people I his life who have wronged him. He punished them for the things this man’s friends and family had supposedly done to him. How they dismissed him and treated him as if he was ignorant. So Austin Cam and the others we tortured and beaten for what the kidnapper felt were the sins of his family and friends. He said he was doing the world a favor by getting rid of these ignorant dumb men. All of the men worked blue collar jobs mechanics mailman ECT except for 2 Austin and another man, but the day Austin was taken he was wearing sweatpants with his dad’s construction company logo on the and the other man was working as a mailman to get his degree. Once the kidnapper found this out everything changed…..
So after 5 months of being trapped Austin and Cam are free!! But things as to be expected aren’t the same.Austin’s wife just doesn’t seem to understand that he’s not the same anymore the only time he feels at peace is with Riley(his daughter) or with Cam. Cam is trying to adjust but it’s hard the flash backs hit like a bullet sometimes and it’s hard to get through. The only time he feels comfortable and content is with Austin. He wants Austin in more ways than friendship but Austin is married so he knows it’s hopeless and Austin doesn’t even know Cam is bi. Then thinks start tho change. This is an amazing story I would recommend anyone too read it. As embarrassing as it is to admit I squealed when I found out about Chase and Remy!!!
This is a book that at times has you on edge. It is great story of 2 men delaying with flashbacks about a time that many couldnt have imagined. Watching their bond change and strengthen made me not want ot pit the book down
*4.5 Stars*
This is my first time reading Cara Dee and definitely won’t be my last. It’s also my first M/M book. The author has me completely hooked. This story has so much to it.
The flashbacks kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know what happened and yet could barely stand it. I really enjoyed the writing style from that perspective, especially as that highlights part of PTSD. I had no problems following along between the flashbacks and the present day.
I love how Cara Dee took two people with vastly different life preferences/experiences and showed how things can change after going through such a long intense situation. It truly makes you realize what is important in life and the gift of having someone who understands.
There are parts that others may not enjoy but for me I loved it simply because it showed complexity. It embraced the character’s flaws without apology. The character development was truly phenomenal as was the world building. Even during the flashback scenes it felt realistic and like I was right there. The story telling was truly gifted.
The half star deduction is for the ending. There was such good build up and yet it came together at the end too fast. However, that being said, I am now hooked and have already bought Outcome (Aftermath Book 2).
Highly recommend!
