From the New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars, discover the love story that captured over 20 million hearts in Me Before You, After You, and Still Me.“You’re going to feel uncomfortable in your new world for a bit. But I hope you feel a bit exhilarated too. Live boldly. Push yourself. Don’t settle. Just live well. Just live. Love, Will.” How do you move on after losing the … Just live well. Just live. Love, Will.”
How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do you build a life worth living?
Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started.
Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong, capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . .
For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. But here Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await.

After You is Jojo Moyes’s follow-up novel to Me Before You written for the many fans who repeatedly requested it from her. Personally, I don’t think a follow up needed to be written – Me Before You was pure magnificence all on its own. I wasn’t planning on reading After You because of this. I knew I would be disappointed, and I was. This is a prime example of “you can’t please everyone” though. Ms. Moyes was damned if she wrote it and damned if she didn’t. I’m sure it must have been a difficult choice for her.
After You features reviews that reflect varying degrees of disappointment among the masses. However, if this story had been independent of Me Before You and featured fresh characters, I think it may have been received better. Moving through grief, exploring a life that feels new, and finding patience and appreciation for those who pass through are all important themes. Lily’s story in itself was one that could have been a fresh stadalone all on its own. However, receiving constant reminders about the intensity of Louisa and Will’s “relationship” (a relationship depth and intimacy that I clearly do not remember them having) distracted me greatly from what this book could have been…and am I mistaken or has Me Before You’s beautiful respect for dying with dignity been suddenly diminished?
I can’t be mad for finally reading this novel though. If I have learned anything from Will, it’s to live without regrets. I read After You and can now move on.
After seeing the Me Before You movie last night, I would definitely recommend watching it (but read the book first!). And I also want to say I really enjoyed reading the sequel, After You. It’s got the same great characters and a very charming voice. Obviously the story was very different from the first one, but I still got completely sucked in.
I read this book over 2 days and while not as depressing as “Me Before You”, it has its share of moments when you are reaching for a tissue. The ending is especially lovely.
“After You” begins with Louisa in Paris. Will Traynor had left instructions with his attorney to provide Lou with enough money to allow her to get through a period of unemployment and also travel abroad and experience the world. She is sitting at a table reading a letter dictated by Will with instructions that it is only to be opened and read a particular café accompanied by croissants and a large café crème. In the letter, Will explains that he has made provisions for Louisa and ends by telling her to “Live well! Just live!”
Louisa moves into the London flat she purchased with money Will left to provide for her. Stuck in a horrible job at a pub in the airport, life takes an unexpected turn when a young woman claiming to be Will Traynor’s daughter shows up at Louisa’s door one night. To say she turns Lou’s life upside down is an understatement.
Then, there’s Sam. You’ll have to read the book to see where this goes. You’ll find yourself in, or very near, tears at times. Other times you will be laughing out loud. All in all, “After You” is another great book by Jo Jo Moyes.
This book has been in my TBR pile for a few years and I’m trying to catch up! You can’t help but love these characters and I enjoyed the story. A nice summer read.
Beautiful!
More in the life of Lou after Will’s death. Beautiful book about surviving grief. I was sad to see her leave her new love but excited to read the third in this trilogy to see what happens to her next.
Okay this book kinda threw me off. I went in looking and hoping that it would be better than the first book, Me before you. And it’s good but not as good as Me Before You. By the time I finish it I had to really think how iI felt about it. I love that we found out more about Wills past and How Lou is dealing with everything that happend in the last year. It will definitely make you ask yourself a lot of questions. It’s still worth the read.
This book is the second part of a trilogy. Part one is “Me Before You” and should be read first to be able to fully understanding how the main character’s emotions motivate her behavior.
Disappointing after the strong and gripping first book. I was happier not knowing what happened after…

Gave me closure to the first book and left me wanting more. I love Lou and the characters so much
not a page turner as the prequel but entertaining still. Jojo Moyes forever
I love how this author writes.
This series was wonderful!
This is the follow-up to Me Before You. Sometimes follow-ups disappoint. Not so this story. At all! It takes you in a whole different direction than you would expect but it keeps the characters solidly themselves. What a joy to read after the heartbreak of Me Before You! Leaves you wanting more! Thank you Jojo Moyes!
This second book in the series was not as good as the first book. It is still a good read.
Enjoyable
Loved the whole trilogy. Jojo Moyes does not disappoint.
more like 3.5
