Hercule Poirot is called on to investigate the murder of a brother and sister, in this classic Agatha Christie mystery now available in an updated edition with a foreword Sophie Hannah. “He was murdered, wasn’t he?”When Cora Lansquenet is savagely murdered, the extraordinary remark she had made the previous day at her brother Richard’s funeral suddenly takes on a chilling significance. At the … takes on a chilling significance. At the reading of Richard’s will, Cora was clearly heard to say, “It’s been hushed up very nicely, hasn’t it. But he was murdered, wasn’t he?”
Did Cora’s accusation a dark truth that sealed her own fate? Or are the siblings’ deaths just tragic coincidences?
Desperate to know the truth, the Lansquenet’s solicitor turns to Hercule Poirot to unravel the mystery. For even after the funeral, death isn’t finished yet . . .

Great book. Never knew Christie to write a bad one altho “Elephants Can Remember” wasn’t up to her usual standards. This one is really good.
You can’t go wrong with an Agatha Christie book. All are well-written and intriguing. I read so much it is hard for me to remember the intricacies of a story once it’s been awhile since I read it and am already on to another mystery but I do remember enjoying “After the Funeral”.
I’ve yet to get the murderer right with her mysteries
Love every book by Christie…especially the ones with Hercule Poirot
Come on, it’s by Agatha Christie! ‘Nuf said. After that, it’s got Hercule Poirot, This story was a bit different in that you don’t meet Poirot until some time after the story starts. But as he comes into the case late, it just makes it that more interesting. I can binge read Poirot all day!
I loved this book. I had not read this before and it was such a treat. The family is so dastardly, and the ending was a surprise.
Meh…
Hey this is a Hercule Poirot ( did i spell that right ?) What’s not to like ! Lots of Britishness, over done characters and a castle.
What can you say about the master? The writing itself is perfect — she introduces many characters but you always know who’s who with subtle clues, just like the plots. This is a Poirot story, but he has a smaller role than usual. Well worth reading.
I love the way Agatha Christie builds the suspense and drops so many clues that after you read you say ‘Oh, yeah,’ I missed that one.
If you are an Agatha Christie fan you have probably already read this book, possibly under another title. It is classic Christie, with a list of strange suspects that take it in turn to confide in Hercule Poirot as the plot advances. He uses the “little grey cells” to determine the killer without running around looking at clues. This should be on …
Classic Agatha Christie. She is still the queen of mystery writers; no one, living or dead can compare. This story has interesting characters, plots, twists and turns, and a solution I didn’t see coming. Couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
Agatha Christie is one of my favorite authors.
I have read all of Agatha Christie’s books and there is not one I haven’t enjoyed!
I was hard to figure out before the end. Good mystery.
Always like Agatha Christie mysteries. This is a good one, too.
This is a solid Christie mystery. It’s not one of her top books, but it’s enjoyable.
It was good to hear about good old Poirot after so long. He admits he’s older and retired but his little gray cells continue to turn.
Not an original AG herself but the author put forth a very good enjoyable effort.
Agatha Christie at her best!
Christie classic!!
