A wounded war hero struggling to survive meets his match in the one woman he never saw coming…”…an insanely all consuming intensely passionate affair of the heart…” –Jackie, Amazon reviewerWes Sullivan is everything I loathe in a man.Too strong. Too controlling. Too serious. He left the Army, but that Army attitude won’t leave him.And me? My spirit is so free that no man can contain me. … spirit is so free that no man can contain me.
Screw rules. Screw routines. Maintain that element of surprise.
My only job is to get him to the church on time for his sister’s wedding.
Kissing him isn’t part of the deal.
Neither is falling for those lightning eyes, for that rock-hard body.
We’re both flirting with disaster
But he’s one rule I have to break…
After I Was His is the highly anticipated follow-up to Amazon bestseller Before She Was Mine and book #2 in the Wounded Hearts series. Two new characters…one unforgettable saga.

We finally get to know what happened to Wes!!!!! While he tries to ditch out on his sister’s wedding, she sends her best friend to find him. When Whitney finds him, she convinced him to come to the wedding in an interesting way. Wes was in the military and went through some bad stuff, but refuses to believe that he has anything wrong with him since he wasn’t the one that came home missing a leg. Whitney is so care free and social that she literally pulls him out of his hermit ways. Whitney and Wes are one of the best matched couples that I have read about. They are total opposites and it works for them! It was a very good book and I was glad to see what happened with Wes… I was a little worried about him.
I really enjoyed this book. Wes and Whit are both complex characters that are complete opposites.
This book…. OMG!
This story pulled at all my heartstrings in an amazing and in an painful way at the same time!
I fell in love… .
I felt heartbroken… .
I felt elated… .
I laughed out loud… .
I had tears in my eyes… .
I felt all those emotions with both protagonists, Wes and Whitney … , sometimes I even felt torn apart between these two extremely contrasting characters… both so very well comprehensible in their trains of thought and in their whole being, so that it was impossible to take sides with only one of them… .
Amelia Wilde did an amazing job with creating these characters, this plot, this whole package!
I truly am at a loss of words to even describe the turmoil I went through while reading this amazing book. So, so good!
To understand my emotional predicament, you simply have to read the book yourself. I can only highly recommend it!
Whitney and Wes what a great combination she’s flighty and spare of the moment, and he’s ridged and controlled. This is a great best friend’s older brother’s story with almost hate at first sight. Wes is a wounded warrior that hasn’t admitted how broken he is and how it is ruling his life. When these two become unplanned roommates sparks fly. This book has humor, but it really is a tender love story with lots of feelings and figuring out how to deal with them. I enjoyed these characters that put a smile on my face. Fun book
It was average and I not like saying it but all of the books that I have read by this author were average to me. I have never read an author where I felt no connection to any of the characters in any of the books.
You’ll want your own Wes…sooo good!
Amelia hits it out of the park, AGAIN! Wes and Whitney are perfect for each other. She calms him and he grounds her. Or is it the other way. Both have damaged hearts that need soothing. I love Amelia’s treatment of Wes’s PTSD. It has all the feels. Happy, sad, sexy, stressed, loving, protective, adventurous. ..they are each the others’ other half! Definitely a must read. You won’t regret it. And we get to see Suumer and Dayton again! I received this in exchange for a honest review.
After I Was His is the next in the series, after Before She Was Mine, and the story of Summer’s best friend, Whitney, and her brother, Wes. Who would have thought that such opposites would have such a pull to each other, but I love it!
Amelia brings such an inside look at PTSD and its effects on returning service members, which makes my heart ache going out to Wes. Each simple thing to Whitney is an act of Congress to him, but for her he is willing to do it, for that small piece of relief from the weight of the past. The internal battle of control and routine, war with her free spirit. Whitney is driven to spontaneity after the lost of a dear loved one, not wanting to miss one moment in life, she goes where ever the wind blows her.
No denying their chemistry or connection, what one lacks the other one provides. I do wish there had been a little more of awareness on Whitney’s side in regards to Wes’ PTSD, considering Summer’s occupation, and maybe a little more about her past, but other than that, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great read.
I read it in a day, and couldn’t put it down! I hope to see more stories for the other characters from both BSWM and AIWH, cause I am not ready for this series to be over yet!
Whitney is a bridesmaid for Wes sister Summer. She has to look for Wes for pictures at the wedding and they end up kissing in his hotel room. Later Wes and Whitney end up being roommates. Things quickly heat up between them. A funny, delicious tale that kept me reading til the end.
I received an arc and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Two broken souls whose parts made one beautiful whole
In some ways this was a very typical contemporary romance and yet through good writing and some wonderful characters this had very unique feel. This is an author who I know writes solid love stories with likeable and believable characters. I loved the sound of this book from the blurb, who can resist a damaged military hero? Or a frenemies-to-lovers story?
Wes is a former soldier, silently struggling to forget the horrors he has experienced and filled with guilt. Whitney is an aspiring actress, determined to maintain a positive attitude and to always make the best of what life brings her. Wes loves order, calm and control, Whitney is spontaneous and loud. Can they find enough common ground on which to build a relationship?
I didn’t immediately warm to Whitney as a character. However as I got to know her, and more importantly got to know about her, I really fell for her. She is such a strong and determined character and never lets life get her down. Wes broke my heart with his stoicism, even if he was being pig-headed about getting help. This pair perfectly fitted together despite being totally wrong in so many ways. I really believed in them as a couple and thoroughly enjoyed reading their story.
The ending – oh the ending – it just made me melt. Best of all the epilogue wrapped up the story perfectly.
There is a good mix of romance, steam and angst, with some wonderful humour and some contrasting serious moments. Unless you prefer clean/sweet romances then this is a contemporary romance that I am more than happy to recommend.
Holy Hotness Batman! This book was sooo amazing! A broody, mysterious, angry man vs a free-spirited woman always calls for a great story. This was no exception. Amelia wrote an amazing, keep me turning pages, barely sleep book. It was that good. I would have read it all in one sitting if my kids would have let me. Darn kids hogging my reading time.
So the book starts at a wedding that I definitely need to read Book 1 to understand just a tad better. (It’s not necessary but could help). Wes does not want to go to his sister’s wedding due to some traumatic issues he’s going through. Enter maid of honor Whitney to the rescue. She’s pushy but stands her ground with this mean man (lol) and makes him go. Shortly after they become roommates and things change. I won’t go into too much detail and save you the suspense for your own reading pleasure. I highly recommend this read
