After Dead was interesting to get the story of all the characters life after Dead Ever After. I did not remember some of the characters discussed but it was nice to get more info on the main characters.
I had the wrong end of the stick when it came to this book so I got a shocker when I picked it up to read. This is not a narrative at all. Haha! This is like a collection of notes on the Sookie Stackhouse series when it comes to all the characters- primary and secondary- that are from the series. It lists them from A to Z and shares a brief piece about what came of them after the series.
I had a few laughs and sighs knowing the future for some well-loved quirky characters and embarrassingly, there were quite a few that I had no idea who they were. It’s been a while since I read the series so I can see that I’ve forgotten things somewhat.
This little guide (yeah, that’s pretty much the best way to see it) works best when read after the final book and is handy to satiate the reader’s curiosity about what came even years later for the characters of the series.
So, if one sees it as a helpful guide rather than a book from the series, its a little gift to the fans and an interesting piece read quickly.

AFTER DEAD had been on my wish list for five years. After reading the reviews, I decided to wait, that I would buy it if it ever was on sale. Thankfully, a digital copy was available from my library.
I knew it was a short book, but this is ridiculous. Some entries are literally one-sentence long, a couple not even one line! Most of them are one short paragraph, less than half a page long. Three entries merit more than a page… At least, I know more what happened to Bubba (my favourite minor character) in a very short paragraph.
I’m afraid to say that AFTER DEAD was even more disappointing than I expected; it’s discouraging to see whole pages with almost no writing. The book is listed as having 128 pages, but in fact the writing itself must fill only about 40 pages’ worth. There are also about a dozen illustrations – probably in colour, but they were in black and white in my digital library copy. I suppose if one is a rabid fan with money to burn, it must be a nice coffee table book. There are some very amusing entries, it’s pure Charlaine Harris (although, I was dismayed to find one typo. I mean, honestly…) While I appreciate the author’s efforts in tying up all the loose ends – it must have been a Herculean task – I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for the book and could borrow it from the library, and that is the only reason why I don’t rate it lower.
You want to know what happened to all your favorite character after the series ended? Well, here it is. This is a quick (took me less than 30 minutes) read with info on all the favorites. There is a lot of information, some sad, some predicted, some funny. Some pages have a paragraph or two while others only contain 1 sentence. There are also little hints that there may be more books about some of the characters. Fingers crossed.
I made it as far as ‘A Note From the Author’. With my steady decline in my like for the series, I personally have no reason to read any further. Once Charlaine explained how this if for those readers & fans who have questions about the many characters in Bon Temps, that were not answered in Dead Ever After, I was done.
I loved all of the Sookie Stackhouse books.
The events in this book should have been covered under Dead Ever After.
Read the entire Sookie Stackhouse series. Never disappoints.
Great follow up to the series, even mentioning characters I’d forgotten! Good to have some closure with a few tertiary storylines.
