There is a gritty, raw quality to River Savage’s writing that I adore. I fell in love with her voice as an author when reading Incandescent, and she made me a die-hard fan with Affliction.
Sy, our gorgeous biker hero, isn’t your typical hero. He’s demanding, unapologetic, and rough around the edges, but so darn redeemable (due to his steadfast determination to help the heroine, Holly through a difficult situation), that it is impossible not to love him. Not to mention he’s sexy enough to make you reach for a fan.
Holly, is beautifully broken by a traumatic experience and yet determined to continue living her life. I adored her sassiness and witty remarks.
This book had it all. Emotion. Sex. Character development.
I didn’t want the story to end, and when it did I immediately purchased book three in the series.
Loved loved it! I was totally sold on this author after reading Incandescent the first book in this series. This one effing rocks! It pulls at your heartstrings and leaves you a breathless emotional wreak with tears, sadness, laughter, and smiles. River’s writing style makes the storyline and characters come alive on the page, so realistic and emotional. Sy has a past where he’s been to hell and back leaving him quiet and broken inside. OMG, he’s broody, bossy, intense, and hot as hell. Holly is a sassy firecracker and so self confident. She endures a tragedy that leaves her an emotional wreck. Sy becomes her rock to depend. He can relate to her pain and wants heal her. Holly becomes Sy’s “sunshine” and pulls him out of the darkness. They were perfect for each other. I loved the friendship that blossomed between them along with their flaming chemistry. Good Lord, some of the things that come out of his mouth would melt a nun’s panties. This is a definite must read and would highly recommend. When a book stays with you days after reading, it’s a winner!
CAUTION: You will need shares in Kleenex and Energizer by the time you’re done reading this book.
Before I get to my review I have just a little to say about River.
I am part of her fabulous River Rebels StreetTeam, and during the process of her writing Affliction, I watched how she struggled emotionally with Sy and Holly’s story.
I can now finally understand why.
River can write pain better than most I know, not just physical but emotional, mental and she does it in a way that you don’t just sympathise with them, but you Feel exactly what they are, every raw, brutal, heartbreaking, soul sucking moment.
This by far is one of the most touching stories I have Ever read.
River, you should be incredibly proud of not just your work, but Yourself.
Ok, Sy and Holly
Affliction runs alongside of Incandescent on the timeline for most of the time, in Sy and Holly’s POV. But does skip back to Sy’s past every so often, giving us a taste of who this gorgeous man is and all of the pain he has endured.
From the second I met these two in Incandescent, I Knew they were perfect for each other. I loved that crazy, full of life Holly and Sy, the sexy ass bad boy …. Damn I knew there was a lot going on under all that bitterness.
Sy has many layers, this brooding bad boy has been dealt a pretty harsh hand at life, shutting people out and not getting emotionally attached is his way of coping. So when a feisty, full of attitude blonde walks into Ink Me with Kadence, he was not expecting to be so effected.
Holly want to find out just how much ink this biker has, but gets shot down by his silence, that all changes pretty fast when Sy can not fight his attraction to her.
The cat and mouse chasing between these two is funny as hell, Sy and his over the top demands, insane moods and panty-soaking dirty mouth, gets under the skin of the flirty, teasing, #NoShitTaking Holly.
In one tragic moment, that vibrant woman is gone, leaving behind a very broken Holly.
But what Sy does next, is breathtaking. No matter how hard it is, no matter how broken he is or how much he is pushed away, he stands strong to be there for her, in-turn making both himself and Holly stronger.
Watching these two build a friendship, building each other back up is remarkable to say the least, the chemistry is off the charts and when these two unleash all the pent up sexual tension … Woah! Turn on the fan and forget the panties, these two will steam up more than just the pages.
These two show that no matter how much heartache you’ve had, how broken you’ve become, there is always that one person who is there to breathe the life back into you.
I love that we get to see what’s happening with Nix and Kadence, as well as all the other guys and a special new meeting of “H” 😉
I can not wait for more from River to meet some more of the Knights Rebels.
I’ve had my #NixFix my #SyHigh now bring on Jesse. Until then #CockOnRebels
Sy and Holly’s story is one emotional roller coaster ride, but so worth it. I enjoyed every single moment of this book.
I LOVED IT!
I love this book. I couldn’t wait to read Sy and Holly’s story but It took Holly entirely too long to tell Sy the truth about what happened when she got shot in book 1 Incandescent. I know she was so heartbroken to even find out she was pregnant let alone lost it. I still wish instead of pushing everyone away including Kadence she should have found comfort in Sy. In book 1 they don’t even let on that they even had sex so it was a shock to find out about the baby. It was nice to get more background on Sy. Now I know why he is so stone faced and quiet. He’s heartbroken and angry. As the story goes on and Sy and Holly start getting close again things starts getting really exciting and romantic and the secrets start to come out changing Sy and Holly forever. I highly recommend this book to everyone but you have to read Incandescent first. Oh yea, and the sex is freakin amazing! Lol. 😉
Sy and Holly’s story is a very emotional one. Holly was once this bubbly friendly person until something tragic happens to her and she becomes lost. Sy comes off as this broody guy with a temper but you come to learn that he has lost so much and it made him close himself off to people. These 2 help each other move on from the past and realize they need each other. This is a great story.
This was a good love story centered around two people who struggle through some very heavy emotional issues to find true love and happiness. The story actually dealt more with their own personal struggles and the negative impact of being afraid to share and face the terrible losses in your life. Sy is one hot, moody, unhappy man who expects full disclosure from Holly but fails to completely put all of his cards down until the last part of the book. But I think he is one of the most sensitive heroes I have read about in a long time. He just fails to show that sensitivity all the time, but when he does it melts your heart. I really couldn’t understand why Holly kept her secret for so long, especially after hooking back up with Sy. I enjoyed reading about the characters from book 1 and look forward to the next book in this series. Personally, I enjoyed book 1 the most. The story lines were totally opposite and shows me the author has great writing capabilities and doesn’t get stuck in the same old story rut.
I am so hooked on MC biker books from Ms. Savage!
I love Sy and Holly’s story. They are perfect for each other.
This story had me not wanting to stop reading. Holly is Kadence best friend, she is married to Nix the Knight’s MC President.
The story of Sy and Holly is a sexually charged and dramatic one. I loved it and I am going to read the whole series!
I liked this one more than the first one. I loved Sy. I thought he was sexy, broody, caveman alpha and totally protective. He past was heartbreaking and I hated his ex wife even if he didn’t. I really liked Holly too. I wish she would have told him what she was keeping from him sooner. It annoyed me that it took months for him to find out and then it was because he had to force it out of her. However I did understand how hard tell him that would have been and I could understand her fear and pain. I loved how sassy and playful Holly was. I was glad that she didn’t go from dark depression to healed in a flash but that it took time, love, therapy, and her trying to turn her life around. I thought there was a great relationship building with Sy and Holly and tons of passion. I really enjoyed it!
This is book 2 of a series. I would strongly suggest that you read book 1 to get a better understanding of the characters. Holly and Sy’s story has a solid storyline that has a lot of love and some angst as well. This is a MC book, but this MC is on the right side of the law, but not above protecting their own. Some of the storyline parallels book 1, but then it goes further in time. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger, but you know that Jesse’s story is next.
