Hunter, Prince of Baskaria, always knew that one day he would marry and ascend the throne. He thought that woman would be Emmaline, a lady of his court and his mistress of several years. That is until one day, he meets the beautiful and innocent Briella, a common girl raised by her father in the nearby village.Lady Emmaline, jealous of the girl that has stolen not only her love’s heart, but her … but her chance at the throne, has devised a plan. Using her mother’s book, she casts a spell on all those who stand in her way. If she can’t have Hunter, then no one can.
Briella, smart and kind, is caught in the middle of a love affair. Unbeknownst to her, they’ve been here before. Loving a prince, isn’t easy- especially one like Hunter.
Can love truly exist between a beauty and a beast? One can only hope that they won’t always be: Afflicted.

New take on a tale as old as time…
A Maslo and Zizi Cole put their own spin on an old familiar tale, while still making it recognizable, yet highly engaging. A pleasant, fast read with a little more edge than you typical fairy tale. Settle back and lose yourself in Baskaria, with Hunter and Brielle and all their friends (and enemies), you won’t be disappointed.
Adult adaptation of a childhood favorite with a twist. Really enjoyed this updated version of one of my favorite fairy tales. The twists added by these authors kept me enchanted from start to finish, not to mention keeping me in suspense as to how all the evil will be unraveled. The characters come to life and even the supporting cast grabs your interest to the point I will definitely be reading more by these authors. I loved fairy tales as a child and the adult fantasy does not disappoint.
This book had me hooked!! I loved the story line and the characters!! Very well written and kept my interest. Can’t wait to read more by these authors!! Highly recommend!!
This is the first book I have read by this author and am glad I got the chance to read this story. Its a classic tale we have all heard or read but I love the way this author retold the story of Beauty and the Beast. The characters were brought to a life of their own and not just a version of what was already done. The story line was great with a few added twist. Over all I would recommend this book.
Do you love the classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast? If so, then this book is for you. This book is a twist on the classic fairy tale that will engage you from start to finish. Hunter is a handsome Prince and soon to be King. He lost both of his parents to tragedy over the years, and he swore to himself that he would not get married. He’s been entertaining Emmaline, but he knows that she’s not really the woman for him. When he crosses paths with Briella while in the village, he finds himself falling for this common village girl. When she nearly comes to trouble, while out for a ride, Hunter takes matters into his own hands. Emmaline, believing herself to be in love with Hunter, quickly learns of his “infatuation” with Briella. Taking steps she takes revenge on Hunter with the intent of making him come around to seeing that she is the one for him, and setting up Garrick to step in and attempt to win Briella’s heart. There are twists, surprises and worrisome moments, but this story is one that you will happily devour.
Afflicted is book one in the Prince’s Collection by A. Maslo and Zizi Cole. When I first saw this book, and that it was a twist on Beauty and the Beast I knew that I had to read it. I was more than eager to learn how these two authors would spin this classic tale, and for me, I was not disappointed. From the beginning the authors engaged my interest in the story and never let me go. I love the fact that we are introduced to Prince Hunter first. He’s a good character. He has his issues, but you can tell that he’s a good man and cares for those around him. He’s kind, but he’s not a push over. Briella, true to the character of Beauty, is the odd girl in the village. She’s kind, but still strong and a bit of a fighter when the need arises. This story flows beautifully and I love that some of the names are similar to familiar names so it’s easy to distinguish which characters are which.
There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this story. There are a couple minor spelling errors, but there isn’t anything so major that it will distract from the story. I’m happy to say that this story fully compliments the original Beauty and the Beast.
I literally devoured this book in a matter of a couple hours, only putting this book down when I absolutely had to. This is such a well done story and I am eager to read more books in the Prince’s Collection. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I couldn’t get enough of this story! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales, and I feel that the authors have done a fantastic job with this fun retelling. If you love Beauty and the Beast then I highly recommend you read this book. You will not be disappointed.
