For artist Dan Bellamy and his new bride Elaine, a trip on the world’s biggest, newest cruise ship represents more than just the honeymoon of a lifetime: it is also a celebration of the progress Dan has made toward beating the agoraphobia that has plagued him since he suffered a horrific knife attack two years earlier.
The ship is a perfect floating paradise, but when Dan spots what he thinks is … he thinks is a body being thrown overboard, he begins to suspect that not everybody aboard the Oceanus is there for a vacation.
Soon, Dan will discover that there are some things worse than murder, and the body he saw is just the beginning. Because something is coming for the passengers on the Oceanus.
Something that isn’t supposed to exist…

I actually ordered this book when it was free for kindle because I thought it sounded interesting and I liked the cover picture. It is now one of my favorites! I could not put this book down. It has amazing suspense and the story is completely original. I was extremely pleased to see that this is part of a trilogy and two more bloody good books are waiting to be devoured by me at my earliest convenience…… 😉
A maiden voyage cruise ship, four brothers, a security team, two newlyweds, 3,000 guests, and no power in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at night…..already the makes of a fascinating story, but then add in Pandora’s Box being dropped into the middle of it all and releasing the spawn of Hell…..NOW you’ve got an AMAZING novel….and he called it “Adrift”…….
To be in the dark and having no reference points is truly scary. As I was reading I could feel myself tensing up with the anxiety the characters were feeling.
This is my favorite book. Scary, fast actioned, keeps you turning the pages. Imagine, your on a cruise ship, trapped, monsters. Hide yup awesome.
The premise of the story to me had great promise as a great horror story. Sadly about half way through, it became obvious that it was going to be disappointing. while the premise was exciting (and a bit twisted), the story was never developed to it’s initial potential.
Why? You may ask. This is why…….The story begins with a woman attacked and devoured by a monster. Turns out that the monster is only one of many and that periodically, one prominent family or another has the responsibility of transporting several of these monsters to a situation that offers a buffet of humans for consumption.
And….Surprise!! The monsters are actually vampires, who are nothing like the vampires about whom we have read. The human race is basically under their control and must give them “food” periodically or suffer the consequences.
“Adrift” could have been completed in one book, (and would have seemed much more developed and coherent, but instead is dragged out into 3 sequels…..maybe more.. Who knows? I have not read the 2nd and 3rd yet and probably will not do so.
When it comes to horror stories, this one does make make my “A” list.
Not recommended.
I could not put this book down! The author is amazing!
Interesting story with good characters.
I enjoyed this fast-paced semi-horror story. The Author really took me to another place. I read the entire trilogy in a week.
This book was so scary and haunting. I may never go on a cruise because something like this could happen. Good writing but too scary for me
This was a totally different out look for what is loose on this ship.
Adult language. That being said, it is SCARY!
This book was one of the best I have read in a long time. It was slow at the beginning, and I almost quit, but I am very glad I did not. Don’t want to spoil what happens, but it was such a shocker!! What happens I could not have predicted ever! Give it a chance!
It kept me turning pages all the way through.
This story about creatures unlike anything we can imagine is a great page turner. I wasn’t really feeling the protagonist anxiety issues until I saw the storyline tied altogether. Totally set up for a sequel. Great YA or adult horror novel.
Good read….interesting concept…
Well written and engaging story.
I actually enjoyed this book quite a lot. The characters are interesting and easy to understand. The gore level is moderate for a horror novel and it is fairly easy to read. I read the entire thing in an evening. I didn’t find it particularly scary but I am also not easily scared. The main scare factor for me was less about the creatures on the ship and more about the thought of groping around blindly on a pitch dark cruise ship knowing there are monsters out there. Overall enjoyable read and I bought the next book in the series.
