Address For Murder is the second book in A Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series. Bernie and the Front Porch Ladies gain more character development in this book. The storyline is well written and fun to read, with another murder on Bernie’s mail route.
I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
In this second book by Tonya Kappes Bernadette the local mail carrier finally realizes that she is falling for Mac, her deceased husbands best friend. While another murder happens and poor Rowena gets a roommate! So what else can happen in this book!
Wonderful characters which you feel like you are right there with them during the whole book!
This is fast becoming my favorite series by Tonya Kappes. I love Bernie and Sugar Creek Gap KY
The quirky characters. I adore the front porch ladies. Bernie is getting a repuation of finding dead bodies this time she finds Lee and inherits a dog. I highly recommend
I received an ARC for a honest review
Address For Murder is the second in Tonya Kappes’ latest Cozy Southern Mystery Series, Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery. Tonya Kappes has revolutionized Cozies, down-home Southern locales, and the Mysteries we all love! Every new idea freshens the genres, and brings us yet a new story to fall in love with.
Bernie, a widowed single mother of an adult son, returned to her Postal Office Mail Carrier job, and enjoys her walking “beat” around their small town of Sugar Creek Gap. It was a mostly quiet — aside from the front porch ladies and their gossip — life until she stumbled over a dead body. Now there’s another, and Bernie and friends put their sleuthing hats back on for another mystery. As always with Ms. Kappes’ work, auto-1-click and you’ll enjoy every mysterious twist! Absolute 5 star must read!
In this second book of the series we find out just what a great person Bernadette really is. She takes care to check on her elderly customers while making her way along her route, especially during the colder months. When walking her route one day she notices one of her customers dog out and running loose. After catching the dog she takes him back home and she sees that something isn’t quite right. The door has been left open, she decides to enter and check on things. When she gets inside she finds the man has been murdered. Having solved one murder already Bernadette feels she has it in her to solve another. She know the information she needs is out there she just has to talk to people and ask the right questions. Along the way she has to figure out her feelings for Mac, her dead husband’s best friend. Follow along as Bernadette looks for clues in hopes of finding a killer, will she be successful or will a killer remain at large.
I am so glad to be back with Bernie and her friends. One of the things I love about this series is the sassy characters. Everyone knows each other and it makes for a fun and intriguing story. The author has really developed the characters more in this book and they start to grow on you.
I love how Bernie always finds time to visit while delivering the mail. In this adventure we have Carla who is obsessed with beautifying the community. It was easy to visualize her carrying around weed killer and spraying it around town .
When one of the townspeople turn up dead, Bernie is on the job figuring out who the killer is. It may seem obvious who is guilty, but with the excellent writing skills of the author, she keeps us guessing till the end. The book is filled with laughs, twists and and intrigue. Get ready for a roller coaster ride with Bernie on the job as amateur detective.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
This is the second book in the mail carrier mystery series. The heroine is Bernadette who is a 59 year old widow and mail carrier. I really enjoyed the first book and was happy to read the second. The characters are all interesting and the mystery is a fun one. It’s nice to see Bernadette solve mysteries with friends as well as start to restart her personal life. It was a fun enjoyable book.
I enjoyed this cozy so much! It’s the second book in the series and the characters really grew on me, especially Bernadette, the main character, and her potential love interest, Mac. I’m really glad that Bernie is getting over not only the death of her husband, but also his betrayal. She was somehow more likable in this book—maybe just because I got to know her better. The mystery itself was great—several suspects to sift through and to guess at. I highly recommend this book and series and eagerly wait for the next book in the series. I was provided an arc of this book, but these opinions are my own.
ADDRESS FOR MURDER, the second book in the Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery Series, is even better than the first book, STAMPED OUT. I already feel like I’ve made good friends in Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky. I particularly like that mail carrier Bernadette is, at fifty years old, a bit older than the typical cozy mystery protagonist. She genuinely cares about the people on her mail route, and it feels natural for her to step into investigative mode to find out who killed Lee. The killer was easy for me to identify, but I enjoyed seeing how the story unfolded. There are few, but strong, suspects, and the contents of Lee’s will add interest. Bernadette, her friend and love interest Mac, and the Front Porch Ladies are all endearing and enjoyable. I look forward to reading many more mail carrier adventures.
I received an ARC of this title from the author and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.
Address for Murder is another enjoyable read in Kappes’ new Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series. By throwing herself into her work, Bernadette tries to take her mind off her feelings about her long time friend, Mac, after discovering that her marriage wasn’t exactly how she thought it was. She always tries to check on her customers giving them her personal touch and making friends throughout her route. When Bernadette finds the dog of one of her elderly customers, she goes to bring the dog home only to discover her customer dead. Wanting to find justice for her friend, Bernadette decides to try and find out who killed her friend.
Kappes does a great job with creating an entertaining tale. I am really enjoying this new series especially with so many great secondary characters especially the Front Porch ladies. These characters really add to the story. Bernadette continues to be well developed especially as she tries to sort out her feelings for Mac, wanting to do right by her son, and sorting out her feelings about her dead husband now that she knows about the secrets he had been keeping. The book’s mystery is well done and captures the reader’s attention from the beginning. Overall Address for Murder proves to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Bernadette’s next adventure.
Received a copy of Address for Murder from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Address For Murder by Tonya Kappes is the second in the series and I do believe better than the first! Another down home southern cozy that makes you feel like you’re visiting long time family and friends. I highly enjoyed it! I recommend as a continuation of the series or as a stand-alone that will make you want to read the first in the series.
Welcome to Sugar Creek Gap where the sweet tea flows like liquid sugar and murder seems to pop up in the most unlikely places. Bernadette, Bernie to her friends and neighbors is on a mission-to figure out who killed her customer and friend. Even if it means a broken heart. She’s changed herself once for a man, and she’s not doing it again!
This is the second book to the A Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! The plot and the characters grew in this story and it made it hard to put down. Bernie loves to take care of her customers on her mail route, and she’s especially fond of the Front Porch Ladies, Vince, Lee Macum and is dog Buster. Every one is gearing up for the Make Kentucky Colorful spring campaign-a contest between the villages for the coveted award and Carla Ramey (President of the Beautification Committee). Carla had gone a bit crazy trying to get the town in top notch order, but has hit one serious road block-Lee Macum. He just will not clean up his place and, from reading it, sounds like a hoarders heaven. Things everywhere-inside and out-and he absolutely refuses to bow down to Carla’s orders. Is it because he has an emotional attachment and dementia? Or is it something more?
Soon, Lee winds up dead and leaves Bernie wondering what killed him and who? Was it Luke, money hungry-yet seemingly caring nephew to Lee who just so happens to reach out to Walter-an ambulance chasing realtor? Did Walter want that house so badly that he killed him? What about Carla? Seems like she’d do anything to win! The clues add up pointing the finger at each one of these characters. It could be any of them, or it could be someone not even in the picture.
You need to read on and join Bernie and the Front Porch ladies on this journey through Sugar Creek Gap and see if you can solve the murder of Lee Macum. Guaranteed to have your mind turning and spinning with clues that don’t seem to be clues and motives that are deeper than the creek running through town.
I was given an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.
This is the second book in Tonya Kappes new mail carrier series. I like Bernie a lot. She is 50, a single parent to an adult son and works as a mail carrier in a small town. Her husband is deceased. He cheated on her throughout the marriage. I think that alone complicates things for Bernie. She has a male friend but it has been hard for her to move on. If your thinking this is a cozy, right? Yes, it is. But it does have a romance storyline that has been as strong, in my opinion, as the mysteries. For me, it works well. Bernie is like a lot of women who find themselves single at 50 after being a couple for many years. You are dealing with a variety of feelings while navigating your new role in life. You’re still a mom, you still feel married but neither child nor husband is in the home and well meaning friends are ready for you to date. I enjoy this part of the ongoing storyline and it is this storyline that makes me recommend starting with the first book and going in order. The mystery is interesting with several obvious suspects. The trouble is, none of them seem to be the right one. I kept changing my mind! There were also some surprises. I’m not going further with that as then you wouldn’t need to read the book.
You can read it as a stand-alone if you insist. I recommend in order with Tonya Kappes books. She tends to build worlds with interesting characters, fun pets and quaint towns. You are easily invested from the start and you don’t want to miss anything. Once you open a book, you will find yourself transported, a member of her small towns. Get comfortable and enjoy the people, gossip and mystery. There is ice tea, coffee and plenty of good food. Pet the dogs and mind the cats. Life is going to be good for a few hours.
Bernie finds another dead body when she tries to return the dog back to its owner. With one murder solved, she is determined to find out who the killer is. She is going to need the help of the Front Porch Ladies and Vince in this one. Plus, she is having issues dealing with her feeling about her dead husband and Mac Tabor. Everyone seems to think they are perfect for each other, but Mac doesn’t like Bernie’s snooping. Join all the crazy characters from this small town in Kentucky. You will enjoy your stay I am sure. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Make sure to read the first book in this series so you know all the main characters that are in this great small town. Both books so far in this series are fantastic. I love that the main characters are all over 40 years old. The story that leads to the murder is great and how it is solved is fun. I love that this is based around a female postal worker. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Sugar Creek Gap, KY has a chance to win the Make Kentucky Colorful award and Carla is bound and determined that they will win. There isn’t a weed or piece of trash that escapes her notice. She carries a spray bottle of weed killer and doesn’t hesitate to blast the little sucker. Too bad she can’t do the same to the town eyesore, the run down, trash filled home of senior citizen Lee Macum. He’s going to ruin her plans but is that enough to drive her to kill him? Or is it the realtor trying to sell the house next door to Lee – who is certain the rats are coming from his house. Then there is Lee’s nephew who is his only relative and is having money troubles? Maybe it’s somebody else but, one thing is certain, there is somebody in Sugar Creek Gap who wanted Lee dead and that makes Bernie very, very mad. Every one of the people on her mail route are her extended family to various degrees but the seniors among them are extra special to her. She watches out for them and will not stop until she tracks down his killer.
Along the way she becomes doggie mom to Lee’s dog, Buster and that makes for some fun scenes when her cat, Rowena is introduced to the new family member. The Porch Ladies and Mac are part of her investigating – I love the Porch Ladies, they have so much spunk. I would love to spend some time with them. I hope they have an even larger part in the next mystery Bernie sets out to solve.
Bernadette Butler is a mail carrier in the small town of Sugar Creek Gap. She walks her route and keeps track of the pulse of the community. This is the second book in the Mail Carrier series and the characters develop nicely.
Join Bernadette in solving her second murder and learn of the changes in her life. Loved it!
Address For Murder was everything I am looking for in a cozy mystery: great characters, warm friendships, an idyllic location, a hint of romance, and a well-written mystery.
Bernadette Butler is a smart, charming, and relatable main character. Her job as a mail carrier gives her entree into the lives and businesses of Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky. She especially enjoys the friendships she has built with the older residents. It is these friendships she draws on to figure out who killed an elderly man on her route.
Bernadette has more than murder on her mind – she has to contend with her growing feelings for Mac Tabor and continue to cultivate a strong relationship with her grown son and daughter-in-law. Of course, there is also all that keeps a small town humming – in this book it is the push to beautify in order to win a statewide town beautification contest.
Address For Murder is a fast-read – I sat down with a cup of coffee and was done with the book about the same time I finished my second cup.
This book works very well as a stand-alone story; however, the series is shaping up to be a delight, so I would start with the first book in the series, Stamped Out.
Many thanks to Tonya Kappes for the opportunity to read and review Address For Murder!
It’s a Southern cozy mail carrier and her cat! Full of southern wit and grit, I enjoyed this even more than the first in series, Stamped Out! It is funny, scary, and suspenseful, with sadness at the loss of a good friend and several surprises.
Rowena is the perfect cat for a mail carrier who has long working days and evenings out with friends or family. She is a loving, happy girl who is a little spoiled (don’t tell my cats about feeding dishes with timers!). Bernie is the favorite mail carrier of the Front Porch Ladies and downtown Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky.
It is time for Carla to retire. Among other things, she has headed the Sugar Creek Gap Beautification Committee for years. This year, she is determined that Sugar Creek Gap will win the Make Kentucky Colorful campaign to complete her years of service. Going through town spraying weeds that have the nerve to grow in the cracks of the sidewalks and delivering yard cleanup tickets to Lee, a retired trash collector who brought home many treasures over the years, are her biggest bane. She’ll do almost anything to win!
Little Creek Road has some of the best residents. Mac, who was Bernie’s late husband’s best friend, is like a family member to Bernie, Grady, and Grady’s wife Julia. The Front Porch Ladies, who helped Bernie solve a murder a while back, almost always have food and beverage for her as they visit on Harriette’s porch. Lee seems like a grumpy old man, but Bernie has won him as a friend, bringing any unusual stamps she finds for his collection, soups for him, and treats for his dog Buster.
Early one morning, Buster was running around the parking lot at the post office and Bernie walks him home before starting her route. Lee’s nephew Luke has been telling people that Lee may be in the early days of dementia, which Bernie finds hard to believe. He seems as sharp as ever to her, but why is his dog loose? When she arrives at Lee’s, the gate is open, the door is open, and Lee is dead.
Bernie is a delight, fast becoming a favorite sleuth. From her charm and wit to her love for the friends made on her route in the past ten years, this is a woman I wouldn’t mind having as a neighbor. She sees the people on her route as her customers, and has a hard time seeing them grow older each year. Bernie also believes that if one gives out goodness, it comes back tenfold.
Bernie and the Front Porch Ladies want to honor Lee. Even though she doesn’t want to get involved in another murder, Lee was her friend. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between Mac and Bernie, Bernie and her parents, and Bernie and her favorite seniors, as well as how secure she has become in herself. The mystery was hard to solve, as there were some really strong suspects! There are definitely surprises in store throughout, as I was surprised at how the whole story played out. I highly recommend this to fans of the author, those who appreciate older sleuths and seniors, cats, and well-written Southern cozy mysteries.
From a Thankful Heart: I received a complimentary copy of this novel, and this is my honest review.
I absolutely LOVED this book!
Address for Murder is Book number two in the Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery Series.
Tonya Kappes has done it again with an incredible mystery, setting and characters.
I really love the protagonist Bernadette Butler, aka Bernie. Not to mention all the fun characters in the wonderful town of Sugar Gap Creek .
Bernie takes care of everyone and I think thats why she is so relateable. As the town’s mail carrier, she is always checking on her elderly neighbors. This is how she ends up finding a dead body.
Bernie is on the case along with the Front Porch Ladies.
The mystery was well written and surprising. The writing is fantastic.
I enjoyed this book so much!
