I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
I love several of this author’s other series, but not this one. Despite this being book #2, I haven’t developed any connection to the characters and I found the storyline boring – there’s no sparkle, wit or imagination that I have come to expect from the author. The overall tone of the book to me was that the author wrote it in a hurry.
Bernadette Buttler is a mail carrier in Sugar Creek Gap, KY. Bernadette along with a quirky lovable cast of characters are getting ready for the Make Kentucky Colorful Spring Campaign. Everyone trying to beautify their town to win the award; everyone but Lee Macum. Mr. Macum is a senior citizen who is a known hoarder. When Bernadette finds Mr. Macum’s beloved pup running around town without Mr. Macum she takes him home. When Bernadette arrives at Mr. Macum’s house she knows something is wrong. When she goes inside she finds Mr. Macum’s dead body. Feeling the loss of one of the beloved seniors on her route Bernadette has to find out who killed him.
This is the second book in the series. The first book is a good introduction to the characters, this book is even better. In Address for Murder, you learn more about Bernadette’s relationships with the Front Porch Ladies and Mac (her deceased husband’s best friend). The mystery is more developed with no shortage of suspects. The story-line is well-developed and moves at a great pace. In addition to great characters and mystery, this book is full of other signature aspects of Author Tonya Kappes’s books… a touch of romance, humor, adorable pets, and southern charm.
I received a copy of this book at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
This new cozy mystery series is moving along nicely! Bernadette finds one of her mail route customers dead in his home. Soon there will be big changes in her life, but I’ll let you read about that yourself! As expected of this author, the writing is top-notch, the plot is tight and multi-layered, and the characters are well drawn and believable. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
This is the latest installment in this newest series in the cozy mystery genre. Never a spoiler in my reviews, but here’s what you need to know: Wonderful small-town setting where everyone knows everyone else, the ‘porch ladies’ who can’t seem to help themselves when it comes to NOT minding their own business, a little bit of romance between a couple of characters with tons of history, and of course the main character (a mail carrier) who just seems to fall over dead bodies. As with all of Tonya’s books, you are guaranteed a good story with fun characters, twists and turns that catch you off guard just when you think you’ve solved the mystery and a town that you find yourself wanting to live in! I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review. If you want a great cozy, pick this one up. It does just fine as a stand-alone; You don’t have to have read the first one, but if you didn’t after this one, you’ll certainly want to!
Address for Murder is the second book in the Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. Tonya once again writes a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. With the southern charm of Sugar Creek Gap, KY and the quirky characters how can you not be drawn in? There are so many twists and turns and suspects that will keep you guessing until the end. I don’t know how she tops her previous book but she does. I love that the protagonist in this story is middle aged. The story is very well written and the characters are loveable and believable. Tonya makes you feel like you are right there in Sugar Creek Gap. This is a fun series and a very quick read,
I read it in one sitting. Everything you want in a small town cozy mystery book is right here in this one. No need to look elsewhere, I can’t wait to see where Tonya goes in the next book.
One thing I like about Tonya Kappes books is that I can read them in one sitting. They’re fun too. I liked this one like I liked the first in this series. Can’t wait for more.
I read an advanced copy for an honest review.
Bernadette, deceides to explore what is going on with Mac, her best friend from the last 10 plus years.
She delivers the mail, like she always does, but discovers that the dog from Mr. Macum, the grouchy old recluse is running around town. When she goes to return the dog, she finds Mr. Macum dead!
Besisdes the fact that Bernie is getting a reputation for finding bodies, the town is in a tizzy for a Spring contest that the person incharge of town beautification is driving eveyone crazy over. The “Porch Ladies” are pressing her for a coveted invitation they expect to get, her daughter in law is ill and what the heck is she going to to do with Mr. Macum’s dog, which was left to her?
This story was much more interesting than the first book. The clues had you wandering in circles wondering who done it and life in the South always puts a smile on my face.
A must read for any Cozy mystery lover.

With everyone doing everything they can to improve the looks of the town for a contest, it doesn’t take much to sense who’s going to be the victim. With many people having a beef with the person, there are several suspects with motives, if not opportunity. Bernie (the protagonist) is feeling a little down when it comes to her relationship, or lack of, and decides to keep her mind busy solving the case, especially since she was one of the few people who actually liked the victim. As is the case with all the books this author writes, she gives us good visuals of the area as we walk with her through the story. The mystery itself doesn’t have a lot of clues to go on. Most of the ‘facts’ uncovered is based on word of mouth and what people saw than any concrete evidence… at least until we get to the reveal. There is a little romance. There are a couple little surprises along the way. And of course that one scene during the big reveal, that has the threat of violence. While part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. It is a cozy, so other than that threat, it is clean and safe for teens and up. It is an easy and quick read.
*I received an ARC of this book.
Love this town, the front porch ladies, Bernie and Mac!! Another murder to solve but this time Mac does not want Bernie in the case. Some angst but really done well. We get more romance and a few surprises. I received an arc and this is my honest review.
I liked the characters and the story in the first book, but I like this second one better. Bernie and her friends are on a new case. This time it is a neighbor to the front porch ladies. He is a curmudgeon, but he and Bernie have always gotten along. When she finds his body, there are several suspects and she has to figure out who murdered him. He also left her everything, including his dog. So glad to see Bernie and Mac getting closer.
Bernadette is a mail carrier in the small town of Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky. Over the years she has developed many friends along the route, including the Front Porch Ladies and the cantankerous Lee Macum. One morning, Bernadette finds Buster, Lee’s dog running loose and knows something is wrong. Sadly, Lee is found dead and there are a number of people in town who have a motive for murdering him.
Full of fun, quirky characters and southern charm. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what happens next in Sugar Creek Gap.
This is the second in the series. It’s a great read. Even better than the first book.
Bernadette Butler is a mail carrier and friend to most in the community of Sugar Creek Gap. The beautification committee has been hassling Lee Macum to clean up his yard. There are others who blame Lee for their woes. I enjoyed having multiple suspects, twist and turns. I also like the relationship development between the characters.
Give this series a try! Waiting for the next book in the series.
I received an advanced copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
Bernadette the mail carrier is always trying to be good to the elderly on her route in the town of Sugar Gap Creek.
The town has been getting ready to be judged by the beautification committee. Except Lee Macum who is a hoarder and his home is filled with trash inside and out or in his words treasures he has collected.
When Lee is found dead, Bernadette is going to investigate in her own way.
Wonderful characters, laughs, friends and family.
Love the Front Porch Ladies!
Don’t miss out on this second book in the series.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.
I really enjoyed Address For Murder! I love the characters. Bernie is so interesting and I really liked the addition of Buster. There are great character developments and relationships in this book. I love the small town setting and all the discoveries that Bernie makes as she continues her job as a mail carrier. The mystery is interesting and had many twists that kept you guessing. This book is so fun
to read. I look forward to more in the series!
Bernie – Mail carrier magnet for murder. Got to love that!
Tonya Kappes has done it again with this gem. Wonderful characters in a charming town and a great mystery with an end I didn’t see coming. Lots of funny parts, some sad, and plenty of friendship, family, and warmth. This series is one of my most favorites.
