Nothing brings two men—or one man and an ancient god—together like revenge.Private investigator Sloane sacrificed his career in law enforcement in pursuit of his parents’ murderer. Like them, he is a follower of long-forgotten gods, practicing their magic and offering them his prayers… not that he’s ever gotten a response.Until now.Azaethoth the Lesser might be the patron of thieves and … patron of thieves and tricksters, but he takes care of his followers. He’s come to earth to avenge the killing of one of his favorites, and maybe charm the pants off the cute detective Fate has placed in his path. If he has his way, they’ll do much more than bring a killer to justice. In fact, he’s sure he’s found the man he’ll spend his immortal life with.
Sloane’s resolve is crumbling under Azaethoth’s surprising sweetness, and the tentacles he sometimes glimpses escaping the god’s mortal form set his imagination alight. But their investigation gets stranger and deadlier with every turn. To survive, they’ll need a little faith… and a lot of mystical firepower.

I always knew I liked tentacle porn, I am not going to lie, but being able to take a potentially niche kink of tentacle-focused eroticism and romance and mix it with a hilarious and quite sweet love story between an ancient god and a magic detective is something I never knew I needed until I had finished reading and was already begging for more of this universe and especially this amazing pair. This has some of the most toe-curling sex but is also just an amazingly fun ride with fantastic action, unique storytelling, and is full of things I’m sure Lovecraft would HATE – so extra points for that!
Hysterically funny, scorching sex scenes, and solving a mystery to boot! Sign me up!
Human, but blessed by his tentacle gods, Sloane works as a private investigator. As the anniversary of his parents’ murder approaches, he meets a potential love interest, only for the man to end up dead and one of Sloane’s gods, Azaethoth the Lesser, taking over his body. They must work together to solve the mysteries which may provide clues to Sloane’s past, all the while Sloane attempts to fend off Az’s tentacle advances.
I adored this first in a series by author KL Hiers. The world-building and mythological aspects of this story are wonderfully crafted. The interesting side characters added to the story and the ending was just… let’s just say, it was awesome. I loved the banter between Sloane and Azaethoth and the push-pull of their relationship. It was a delight seeing the god’s enjoyment of human creature comforts and how sex was always on his mind.
This book is such a wonderful mixture of murder, mayhem, magic, laughter and steamy sexy tentacles. Absolutely adored this story from beginning to end and so very glad I bought it. Can’t wait to read the second book!
I have so much fun reading this book!! Acsiquidentally in Love is Sloane and Azaethoth the lesser story! Ancient gods with tentacles!!!! Sloane Beaumont is a former detective and know a PI who has done everything to find the killer responsible for his parents death, ninety years ago.
His parents were Sages who believed and prayed to the ancient gods, so he carries on their faith and traditions. Sloane doesn’t have many friends and but a after a party his life change and he is involved in the investigation of a murder and is promised help to resolved his parents deaths too.
Azaethoth the Lesser has descended onto earth to find the killer of one of his most devout follower. To do this he assumes the body of his follower Lochlain Fields and pursues Solane to helped him in his investigation.
This was a great book! Is everything I never knew I needed to read, this one was super hot!and the tentacles!!! OMG!!! The romance and the suspense were really good and entertaining. Loch was hilarious!!! The murder mystery in the storyline was good and keep you guessing who was the culprit.
Loch was very quirky for an ancient God and it was funny watching Sloane put up with him! These two together were adorable!!! Great paranormal romance!
**ARC Review**
First in the series and I was given an opportunity to read and I’m glad I did. I had fun reading this. The banter between the two MCs was fun and hilarious at times. Their chemistry was nice. Their journey in finding the murderer and seeking revenge was entertaining. I really love good endings and this was nice:) I always enjoy K.L.’s books and I wasn’t disappointed. Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
What a fun book! Loch (Azaethoth) and Slone were quite the couple. They were so fun together. Loch, a god, was so funny as he was exploring the mortal world. I felt like Sloane should have him on one of those toddler leashes all the time. Reading the banter between Sloane and Loch was a breath of fresh air. They had such great chemistry and played off each other so well. One of my favorite things about a book is when we get to read these dynamic characters that are unlike anything else I’ve met before. That’s what I got here, specifically with Loch. Him having this childlike wonder while mixed with absolute disdain for some of the mortal things he came across was hilariously refreshing. Seeing Loch through Sloane’s eyes made me feel more ingrained with the story being told.
With this story, we got action, intrigue, mystery and sexy steam. The world building was done in such a seamless way that the reader just assumes that it’s always been this way and we don’t really question it. There are gods? Of course there are! Magic? Yep, that’s the norm, too. A whole paranormal department of the police department? Stands to reason that there would be one. With the way the world is built around the story of Sloane and Loch, it opens up so many possibilities for future books to be written. I look forward to them all.
Now, there was definitely some tentacle time to be had in this book. I’m very new to the tentacle world, but man, there’s definitely something to be said for Loch’s appendages. One wouldn’t think that reading about tentacles and naughty time would be hot…they’d be wrong. Loch and Sloane were on fire together.
Underneath the sexy times and the banter, a love is building between Loch and Sloane that is new and tender and you just want to hold it in your hand and nurture and protect it. Going forward, it can only get strong and more long lasting. I enjoyed this book so much and look forward to seeing Loch and Sloane on future installments.
Absolutely adored this book. The characters and world building are amazing and I am so excited about the next book in the series. Sloane was just the sweetest, loveliest guy and Loch was so funny and cheeky. Best part was the beautiful happy ending (for everyone involved). I kind of wish I live in their world as it seems so beautiful and magical. A must read for anyone who loves sweet guys, cheeky gods, some action and some very hot tentacles ;)!

Acsquidentally in Love
Sucker for Love Mysteries, Book 1
by K.L. Hiers
195 Pages
POV: 3rd person, one character POV
Content Warning: tentacles, knotting, possession, minor violence and gore
Acsquidentally in Love is a unique take on tentacle romance. With a dash of romance, mystery and suspicion, Acsquidentally in Love is a twist tale that delves deep into the main character, Sloane’s past, present and future. It combines a chance encounter, a missed opportunity, two mysteries, a murder, and a cold case that spurs the characters towards their end goal.
With an ex-cop, magical anomaly of a Private Detective, a tentacled and snarky God in human form, and a back-up team of magical friends and a CSI tech, the book has a host of characters to bond with.
The main character – Sloane – has a dark past, having lost his parents to a magical murder when he was a child. Harbouring a special and rare magical ability, in a world that accepts, understands, and investigates magic like any other crime/use of power, Sloane became a cop in the hopes of solving his parents murder, but is sacked for misuse of police tech and becomes a private investigator. This gives him a broader range of freedom, using both magical and mental acumen to solve his cases. With a clever mind, a unique view of magic, and a friend in the CSI department, he has all the tools he needs to solve cases.
The God Azaethoth is our secondary main character. Looking to hire Sloane to investigate the murder of a dedicated disciple, he lands himself in Sloane’s life, apartment, and heart, with an uncaring ease, offering snark and an alternative insight into his case.
Third place characters include Lynnette and Fred, Sloane’s best friend Milo, and a host of minor characters who all have their place within the story. There are multiple suspects to the crime, with an equal amount of characters to provide help and hindrance to the investigation.
The world building was fantastic! This is my first book by the author, and I’m seriously impressed. There was a whole new world of magical Gods, magical abilities, and an entirely new belief system that was built from the ground up. The intensity of the world building was clear, as there was a new revelation at every turn and every aspect of the religion, politics and history of that religion was explored throughout the process of Sloane’s investigation. I never felt lost in the details, but I never felt that it was incomplete or things hadn’t been explained, either.
The mystery/crime investigation was also clever and intriguing. As a crime buff, who has read it and seen it all, and who usually knows the killer/culprit early on, I didn’t actually see all the twists coming. There were a few where enough crumbs had been left that I could be suspicious, but I was never 100% sure of my theory until the end. And, for the first book in a series, I love that the entire mystery was resolved in the book, and we weren’t left with a huge cliffhanger at the end.
This isn’t my first tentacle book, but it was my first novel with that aspect. The sex was…intense. Not only was there lots of tentacle sex – and, no, there was no human appendage sex on page – there was also knotting and an implication of future mpreg, though only time will tell if the story will show that on page or not.
Admittedly, there was a lot of sex. Mostly, it was a scene here or there, but there is a HUGE block of sex between 52-61%. However, though I’m usually the first to complain about too much sex in a book with a plot this twisty and intricate – I prefer plot with my hot, rather than porn – but this chunk of sex had purpose. It was meaningful, interspersed by conversation, and provided a unique and different purpose and method than the previous and/or following scenes. So, while there was a lot of it, I never felt like it was a massive amount or that it was clogging up the story.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to reading more. I do have a slight hesitation over how the series will continue. The book would have made a top notch solo novel, as it ended on a perfect HEA ending, wrapping up every character’s storyline. Everyone had found their happy, the case was resolved, and there was only one tiny aspect that wasn’t explained and it wasn’t really enough to imply further stories, so I’ll be intrigued to see where the author takes the series, going forward.
Will it be the same MC’s or new? That’s hard to tell. Azaethoth certainly has enough siblings (50+) that there could be a new god to emerge in the next book, and I’d definitely be all for that. I do hope the unexplained sludge is resolved in Book 2, and that there’s another intriguing case to be investigated, even if it’s not with Sloane and Loch.

Favourite Quotes
““Yes, it’s quite romantic,” Loch replied with a warm smile. “Abigail summoned a sword made of starlight and plunged it right into Halandrach’s heart to claim Zunnerath as her own.”
“Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a little homicide.””
“Milo suddenly came barreling over, frantic and babbling, “Real! It’s real! He’s really real! This, this is huge! Like, finding out Yoda is real!”
This was a great story, full magic, mystery and off the charts team! Loch and Sloane had great chemistry. Azaethoth “Loch” is a lesser known a god, he cares about his followers. He’s here to avenge one the murder of one of his followers. Sloane is a private investigator searching for his parent’s murderers. The antics of Loch and the banter between these two was fantastic. I absolutely loved this story!! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
“Mmm, two thumbs way up”
This was a little of everything!
I caught myself multiple times physically responding to the characters – shaking my head, arching my brows, laughing, even shed a tear or two
The author wove such an enchanting tale for the reader blending fantasy, humor (lots of humor) mystery, and suspense into a heartwarming and enchanting romance that left you with all the feels
“Remember murder to be solved, world to be saved, intestines that need to be festively braided?”
Loch was …
A refreshing gust of wind on a warm spring day.
That passenger that constantly asked, “are we there yet?”
That friend who is overly tactile – you know the one who has to touch everything?
At the same time, he was comfort and safety amidst the storm
Sloane was our driver for this journey, our moral GPS if you will, keeping our trickster under control (well the best we can expect) while rediscovering his self
Looking for light-hearted fun?
Laughter?
Tentacles? lots of lovely tentacles
A bit of mystery and suspense?
Celestial beings that are a bit on the immature side?
A romance that will last that test of time?
Then buckle up butter cup because your carriage has arrived!
I adored this book! Loch was such a great character. KL Hiers created such an interesting story with a new mythological pantheon which is super fascinating to me.
Sloane really needed Loch in his life because he was really just existing because he was trying to solve the murder of his parents. Although Loch was silly and embarrassing, he was also kind and endearing and made Sloane realize that life is important and he needed to start living and stop just existing. (Oh, and we mustn’t forget about the tentacles! I think I discovered a new kink. )
The secondary characters were a lot of fun as well and I am excited for this series to continue.
First of all, kudos to the author for the world created for this book. There was a whole mythological background, similar to the Greek or Roman version, with a detailed genealogy of ancient gods. All of them forgotten by most people, replaced by only one god.
Azaethoth was not what I’d expected an ancient god to be. He was a playful trickster and most of all, he enjoyed getting a rise out of Sloane. These two were a riot together. Their interactions were full of hilarious banter, outrageous flirting and steamy moments.
This was my first book by this author and I honestly didn’t expect the fun I had reading it. The storytelling was incredibly easy flowing and the plot gripping. A compelling combination of magic, mystery, romance, humor and suspense that kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end.
Oh, there are also naughty tentacles!
Loved it!
Gods and magic all rolled into one fantastical read. Searching for his parents killer has taken somewhat of a toll for Sloane and after Azaethoth comes and pays him a visit in dealing with a personal matter to them both. A very erotic tentacle play and inter dimensional action culminates in familial fighting and a showdown with a heart wrenching and emotionally charged conclusion. A well paced story with drama, humour, intrigue and mystery, with a case to solve secrets are spilled and life is altered forever for everyone involved.
Detectives and Gods and Tentacles, Oh my!
I’ll be honest I have never been a tentacle girl. Just never been my cup of tea. However, I’ve loved everything Hiers has written thus far so I was thrilled to be another ARC reader for the new book. Let me tell you it’s hot hot hot. I am so in love with these characters. Sloane the detective who finds himself working alongside an ancient and rather sassy God to catch a killer. I loved every second of this novel. The boys are a riot together and I need far more of their adventures. I am so happy to hear this is the first book of a series. The whole cast of characters are just delightful and I was completely caught up in the mystery. Hiers has created an entire universe filled with adventures and new creatures and I cannot wait to see more of it. Buy this book. You won’t regret it. Beware though.. it made a tentacle girl out of me.
