Elizabeth weaves a tale of 2 star crossed lovers and how their lives entertained. The characters are wonderful and unforgettable!
I couldn’t wait to read this book once Elizabeth O’Roark made the announcement that there would be a story taking place in historic France. After reading Parallel and Intersect, I couldn’t get enough of this world of time traveling women, particularly regarding a mysterious character whom the reader didn’t have the opportunity to get to know, but very much wants to and has so many questions for her and her past. This book did not disappoint and carried the same vein of romance, angst, wit and suspense.
Amelie Besson arrives in a barn in 1938 and is unwelcome by its surly and suspicious owner, Henri Durand. Amelie has a potentially bright future ahead of her in the present day, but has some unresolved matters to handle first, which is why she’s here. She’s still not exactly sure what her purpose is, but in order to move forward, she has to carry out her duties and hopefully absolve herself of some longstanding guilt. Amelie is not a fan of her time traveling ability and would rather ignore and suppress it altogether, which is her plan once this trip is over.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between Henri and Amelie and was endlessly amused. They constantly antagonize each other at every turn with sharp barbs and digs, but the underlying sexual tension is so electric and obvious from the very beginning. Henri comes across as brooding, arrogant and unimpressed, but he adores his sister Marie and is otherwise pleasant to everyone else. He is doubtful of Amelie’s motives, but she manages to forge a close friendship with Marie. Henri is my favorite combination of direct, reluctant, perceptive, caring, protective and chivalrous. He says all the wrong things, but his actions dictate otherwise. Nick from Parallel and Intersect is a hard act to follow and I loved him something fierce, but Henri’s brand of charm hit all the right checkboxes for me (especially with knowing who he is in relation to the main character in that duet).
It was entertaining to watch Amelie adapt to a period several decades earlier, devoid of modern day conveniences. She couldn’t wait to go home, but any time she talks about home, it was questionable as to what she was returning to. After being around Henri and Marie, she develops a bond that feels more familiar to her than with anyone else in her life, causing her to question if she should go back. I watched her grow as a character and saw her make some significant strides in terms of self-love and acceptance. Henri constantly challenges her to be authentically real. Amelie also has to decide how much to reveal to Henri and Marie about the future during this pre-war era and there are some other mysteries intertwined that have a direct impact on each of these characters. Will they have a chance at the future they want or will their paths take an alternate trajectory? From the very first page, I was immersed and captivated, feeling completely invested in these characters. Needless to say, I cannot wait to find out what happens next because I want answers. If you thoroughly enjoyed Parallel and Intersect, this one is another winner with Elizabeth O’Roark’s brand of writing.
Another spell bounding and spectacular story by the very talented Elizabeth O’Roark . I have never been a fan of time travel/ fantasy story but Elizabeth has made a fan of them. The story is so eloquently written , it captivating and absolutely mesmerizing. It’s a beautiful slow burn romance. Even though the story ends on a cliffhanger which I am not a huge fan of but I am anxiously awaiting for the next book to unfold this story. I am already in love with this series and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read. A must read.
A beautifully written original story that’s still on my mind after reading it all in one sitting!! I love time travel stories and this is one of my favorites of 2019!
I became enthralled within the first few pages by Elizabeth O’Roark’s way of weaving an intricate plot and interesting characters and story development.
The unexpected twists, turns and travel kept me wanting more! I loved Henri and Amelie (Sarah) and their immediate attraction but yet slow, intense, silent burn…the angst in knowing what’s to come as is set in history has me completely captivated. I want to know what happens next after that mind blowing cliffhanger!
Amelie Besson travels back fifty years to pre-war France to warn Marie-Threse, determined to help her. Amelie finds herself having to adjust to living in a era that is completely unlike her current life. She doesn’t expect to find herself falling for Marie’s brother Henri which complicates everything knowing she needs to travel back to the future.
Cliffhanger ending but overall the story is quite unique. I liked Amelie, she is a bit of a mystery. Henri was intriguing and I was anxious to see how the chemistry between Amelie and Henri would unfold. Amazing time travel book.
I loved this book! Sarah and Henri’s relationship is compelling and had me staying up late just to see what happened next. Great read!
I love it and recommend it and am enjoying it so much.
Its very twisty, I have read two in this series now. I keep saying I might not read the third one, but you know that I will/ Its a different way to time travel and it keeps you wondering and guessing the whole time.
Cliffhanger
Great story, but need to read the second book in the series too.
I loved this book,so much I pre-ordered the sequel.
Time travel that keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next.
I did like the story and depth of characters, but it is a cliffhanger with the next installment not yet released.
This would be a 5 star if it were not a CLIFFHANGER. Right in the middle of a scene, it stops. The writing is good, the plot is great, entertaining and I do recommend but I am feeling I have been tricked! Definitely not happy about that. Mean to do. Is it about greed?
I’ve already pre-ordered the next book. I can’t wait to continue the story!
Loved it. Can’t wait for the conclusion.
Love this original take on time travel. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of 1930s in rural France. Great slow-burn romance!
Okay, so my love of Parallel and Intersect had me itching at the seams when I found out that Across Time was coming. Nick and Quinn were one of my top couples of 2019 and I loved their story so very much.
And then Elizabeth comes in with this book. I will say at first, I couldn’t get into it. I stopped and went back a few times because I was judging it on my past read of Parallel and Intersect. And while the premise is ultimately the same, I found myself judging it. So I took some time, walked away and then came at it with new eyes. Eyes that didn’t think about the previous two books by this author, but instead came in like I had never read her work before and I was instantly hooked in.
This story gave me chills, had me laughing, had me crying. Had me SCREAMING at it. Literally, my animals can tell you how much they would look at me because I would legit yell at my Kindle like it did something wrong. I have no shame because that just means I was truly invested in the story. Henri and Amelie have a way about them that has you on the edge of your seat wondering what will come of them.
The biggest upset for me was the end. Because it was a freaking CLIFFHANGER! AHHH! I hate them so bad. Seriously, I was really shocked when it just ended the way it did. I sat here for 3 hours contemplating my life because how could SHE DO THIS TO ME?
That being said, I am really excited and anxious to read the next installment of this series and cannot wait to see what happens.
I am definitely mad at myself for not giving this book the chance it deserved in the beginning but I am glad I caught myself and gave it a chance at all. Because IT WAS WORTH THE READ, even if it did cause me to go into a spiraling panic attack because I am now thinking of so many different variations of what could be happening!
4 beautiful stars for this amazing work!
I am not a fan of paranormal or parallel storylines, but this one was entirely something different. Different in the way it touched me. The writing was superb, the storyline brilliant and the intrigue captivating.
This was my 1st time reading Elizabeth O’Roark, but I know this will not be my last. Something about the way she pens a story has me captivated. She did an amazing job capturing the eras and bringing them to life. She did a phenomenal job of giving me characters that touched me.
If you want a bad boy with a heart, grab Across Time and prepare to be enthralled.
