(A standalone Heartbreaker Bay novel)
There’s no such thing as a little in love . . .
Elle Wheaton’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should … until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .
There’s no such thing as a little in lust . . .
Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco earthquake and he craves her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .
There is such a thing as . . .
As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along . . .

I adore this whole series! Heartbreaker Bay is the perfect place to spend your summer. A great binge-worthy beach read with characters you’ll want to return to again and again.
Jill Shalvis’ Heartbreaker Bay series is one of my favorite series because of the very adorable and quirky female characters and of course the very alpha male heroes who turn to mush whenever their lady loves starts glaring at them with both annoyance and lust. Accidentally on Purpose will finally give us the story of Elle and Archer. These two has been giving readers of the series the runaround when it comes to what really is their relationship and we finally get it in this book. To summarize, yep they have a whopper of a backstory add to that an engaging plot line, witty dialogues, zany side characters, hot sex and of course ball busting action and we have a winner in Accidentally on Purpose.
Elle and Archer who knew you had it in both of you to be both funny and poignantly emotional without losing any of your personality that made fans of the series love you. And if this is the first book you’re going to read then it will definitely get you addicted to the whole series in general. I now wonder who the next victim er I mean leads of the next book will be?
I adore Jill Shalvis! Any time I need a laugh, I read one of her books!
Accidentally On Purpose is the next book in Jill Shalvis’s Heartbreaker Bay series…get ready for a new book boyfriend! Part of the HB group of friends, Archer Hunt is hotter than hawt, and like most of Ms. Shalvis’s heroes, a complete smarty pants; snark to the max. He has a ton of depth to him and is as broken as the rest of us, in his own way. Elle Wheaton is also one of the group, complete with her own brand of snark. Elle has a lot to work through but she does her best work when she is getting under Archer’s skin. Fun, and chaos, ensue!
It’s a great story, one that has much laughter and tears and gut-wrenching moments for both of these characters but it is definitely one you won’t put down once you’ve started to read it. I won’t recap the story but reading this book had me laughing, sniffling, and commenting out loud.
I loved these two, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting all the other great characters in the circle of friends and can’t wait to read more from these fun, crazy people.
This is the third in the Heartbreaker Bay series. It’s a feel-good story about love, family, friends, and trust. This entire series is about a tight-knit group of friends who are more like family to one another. Accidently on Purpose is Archer’s and Elle’s story. They were introduced in the first novel and are definitely intriguing characters. Theirs is a deeper history than the band of friends can even imagine. All except Spencer, he’s the only one who knows almost their entire story. It’s great to finally fill in all the blanks. Jill Shalvis writes in a style that is easy to get lost in. Her characters are engaging, the story moves at a good pace, the setting is always somewhere fun, and the romance is sweet with a side of steam. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with one of her books.
I’ve saved Elle and Archer’s story for last, since I suspected there was a whole lot about Elle that I didn’t know just by reading a few others in the series. I was right, there was a whole lot in Elle’s past, the least of which was Archer, or maybe, the most of which was Archer, even as she tried to forget about him.
Archer Hunt worked hard to make sure he knew what was going on in Elle’s life the entire eleven years they were apart, even if she didn’t know he was behind the scenes working things in her favor. Especially then, because she didn’t want his, or anyone’s, help in making a new life for herself. Cue Archer discovering her application for work in the same building he owned a business in, and he saw an opportunity he couldn’t resist.
Elle works for Spencer running the Pacific Pier Building, and goes to school on the side, but the last thing she has time for is Archer Hunt, even if he makes her thighs quiver every time he walks by. She knows it’s been too many years, and too many bad memories, for them to find their way back to each other.
Until you throw in her sister, a woman who by all rights should have stayed gone, but needed Elle’s help. Tired of her antics, she turned her away, but Archer couldn’t. Morgan brought more than just herself to Elle’s door though. She brought Elle’s past and that made Elle one very unhappy girl.
Elle and Archer are forced to work together to find out who is after Morgan and how Elle is involved. Archer has several initiatives, find the man after Morgan, and be the man for Elle. He already knows he is, he just needs to convince a very stubborn, determined, independent woman who has had nothing easy come to her in life. He’d like to be her ‘easy’ because one look in her eyes eleven years ago told him he’d be willing to give everything up for her, and he already had. The only thing missing in his life was her.
Accidentally on purpose was a sexy, contemporary romance that cleared up a lot for me about Elle and Archer, and the rest of the gang from the Pacific Pier Building. I’ll anxiously await the next installment of this series as Jill always brings us characters we feel invested in long before their stories are even told. If you love steamy, funny, witty, and family-centered contemporary romance, you’ll love Accidentally on Purpose.
Elle and Archer make quite the couple! I loved getting to know more about how their past brought them together. The constant pushing of each other’s buttons make it an entertaining read. This is another great Shalvis book. I have yet to read one I don’t like.
I’m so enjoying this Heartbreaker Bay series. I’ve enjoyed reading about the totally put together Elle, heels and all, in the previous books. So to actually read about her full backstory and understand why she reacted to Archer like she did was great. I loved that they finally both overcame their stubbornness and revealed their feelings for each other. Great story about love, family and second chances. Very well written. On to the next in the series.
I love Jill’s writing. It’s the perfect mix of romance, steam and humour. Her MCs are sexy and protective. Two characteristics I love.
This is book #3 in the Heartbreaker Bay series.
Elle lists her priorities as friends, career and kick-ass shoes.
She knows, though, that nothing comes before Archer. He is the security expert who saved her when she was younger and has watched over her for the past 11 years. She knows there is no point in telling him anything, so she will just see other men til she gets over him…. which would be never.
Archer has always wanted the best for Elle.
He even sacrificed is career in law-enforcement for her… to save her. Now he just wants her 24/7. She has earned her happiness and success and he doesn’t want to cause her any further damage. Their chemistry is off-the-charts, and there is no way he will stand by and watch her go out with other men.
Archer doesn’t think anyone is good enough for Elle. He starts messing with her dates, and that doesn’t go over well for Elle. She is mad as hell… and things get hot between them. Archer wants to prove to Elle that he is the perfect man for her… and he has been in front of her all along.
Love this book. I love their chemistry, their banter, their laughter, their way of getting over themselves and finding their true feelings for each other. Definitely a worthy read in this series!
This story is wonderfully written. I loved the banter between the characters. It’s funny, sexy, and touching. The chemistry between Archer, owner of a security company and Elle, manager of the building Archer has his company in, is off the charts. Both have a joint history they don’t talk about. And Elle has secrets she wants to stay in the past but the past has a way of coming back in a dangerous way. I liked how friends from the first two books appear. It’s a group of friends you want to be a part of. This is the third book in a series that just gets better and better. It can be read as a standalone, no cliffhanger. Add to your reading list.
I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
This was the first Jill Shalvis book I read and I was hooked !!!!
This book was fun, light, sweet and romantic, with some angst-filled situations that definitely made of the story the perfect mix. I loved the characters, how they evolved but managed to keep true to themselves; I also loved the rhythm, how the author managed the conflicts, and the ending, of course. Looking forward for more books of this series.
I’m really enjoying this Heartbreaker Bay Series. It’s a town you want to live in and get to know the characters.
This is Elle and Archer’s story, will they or won’t they get their act together? They’ve known each other a long time and need to put some history behind them and explore that chemistry.
I loved this tale and the interaction of the other characters, lots of fun and even a teary moment. It’s not all smooth sailing, far from it.
I highly recommend this book, you won’t be able to put it down.
It’s so well-written and has such amazing character development that I could understand the novel as something more than the cliche rom-com, as something substantial and heart-flutteringly wonderful. It made me want to jump into this world and live happily ever after.
In the last two books, Elle and Archer have been circling each other. All their friends see the sparks flying between them, but none of them are aware that they have a history. Archer had saved her, when she was still a teen, and without her knowledge has been watching over her, to keep her safe. Elle feels guilty that she cost him his job as a policeman and relationship with his father, while he thinks that her feelings are gratitude, which is not what he wants from her. Both are too proud and stubborn to let the other know how they really feel, so they dance around until danger pushes them to open up to each other. Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite authors. Her characters are always well developed and captivating and the plots twist a bit to keep the reader engaged. The one con in this book, was not enough of the usual four legged creatures.
A wonderful book by Jill. Characters you can relate too. Elle is one tough cookie. Always taking care of everyone. When something clicks between her and Archer. What will they do? Wait and see.
Once again, Shalvis blends great characters, humor, and strong emotions.
I have to say that I love this book. So far is my favorite in this series. I love the dinamic between Elle and Archer, they are a bomb ready to explode. I love how strong and sweet they are at the same time. This is a must, must, must read. I hightly recommend it. Since I don’t like spoilers I won’t say more, but it is really a great book. I coudn’t stop reading, seriously. I can’t wait for the next one.
I received a copy of this book in exchange of my honest opinion.
This is the third installment of the Heartbreaker Bay Series. It is the story of Elle Wheaten and Archer Hunt. The book has banter that is witty, trash talking between friends that is LOL and enough action that keeps it real. Characters in this book are life-like and lovable and I like how previous characters are brought in and we are updated on them.
Elle and Archer are like oil and water when together. Each one wants to be the boss and the both of them cannot deny how hot the other is and how hard it is to keep their hands to themselves. Their friends and co-workers see how crazy they are for each other but know to stay out of it. We are taken on a one of a kind ride to find out how these two go from tolerating each other to knock down drag out chemistry and finally a love of a lifetime.
Jill Shalvis does romantic comedy like no other and with just one book read you are hooked!
