This is a fantastic read. Emily and Patrick are great characters, and their story is so much fun to read. At times it’s hilarious, at others touching, and sometimes I just wanted to shake some sense into them.
Oh how the tables have turned for Emily. Back in high school (and before) she was the rich girl. She is also the one who has to return to her small hometown to help her parents now that their fortune is gone. She was to be a clothing designer, after high school traveling Europe and dreaming big. Big dreams are dashed by that one phone call.
Having to go back to his small hometown for a model shoot/interview about his success is the last thing Patrick wanted to do. He grew up there, fell in love there and had his heart broken in that town. Dreading the possibility of running into the woman who broke him is not something he wants to have happen. Getting this interview/model shoot over with and back to his new home is all he is thinking about.
The inevitable happens…..a bar, passing glances, and briefly talking before going their separate ways that night. Seems like the shoe is on the other foot now. Patrick finds out what Emily is going through. It also just so happens that there is no other option, since there is an immediate wardrobe malfunction that starts the ball rolling of reconnecting for Patrick and Emily.
Being her boss doesn’t help hide or deny the chemistry between them. There are too many things that keep them coming back to one another and the lines get crossed. It takes road trip for work, a night of celebration from that win for work, a few too many for Patrick and Emily. Now what started out as a joke, isn’t a joke now. That celebration night results with many things being revealed including a newly learned secret and something sinister happening.
A lot of emotional trials happen, it is the final trial that has all emotions surfacing and no longer being fought by either Patrick or Emily. All secrets are revealed and a very happy ending ensues.
Emily and Patrick were high school sweethearts. Years later she is back in her home town, not by her choice, and her privileged life has disappeared. She never expects to run into Patrick, or to find out how well he has down for himself. When Patrick finds he is in a fashion emergency he turns to Emily. The sparks are still there, but they try to ignore them! That never goes well, and soon they can’t stay apart. Things seem to be going OK, until she gets the surprise of her life! Great characters, great stroy line, I really liked this one!
Emily Andrews looked out at the dreary, gray sky in New York City. She had no idea about her future now. At one time, she had it all planned out. Attend school in New York City; intern at the top fashion houses in the world and make connections; with a degree, launch her own line with a little financial help from her parents. It had moved along perfectly well, until her father lost all his money in a bad investment. Now even her scholarship wouldn’t pay the tuition to reach her dreams. She was going home to help her parents move into a two-bedroom condo since the mansion had been sold. She would have to get a job in New York, find roommates, but one way or the other, she would make it on her own. She was so close to getting her degree.
Patrick Manning, former NHL Player now a billionaire businessman, wandered through Saratoga Springs, but very little had changed over the years. Waiting for his business partner, Jonah, to meet him for dinner at the restaurant, his mind kept going to Emily and how much he missed her. He and Jonah were having a dinner meeting to discuss a magazine shoot for “hometown kid makes it big”, but he thought it was all stupid. He just wanted to get it done and get out of town again. Being here let him know he actually hadn’t healed from his broken heart as he had thought he had!
Emily tried to go through the things in her room, to pack and throw away. But everything reminded her of Patrick and she finally called Alyssa to go have a drink. Patrick was likewise trying to work, but he couldn’t stay focused and finally got so restless that he needed to go out, maybe for a drink. Elliott recognized him and camel up to say hi. Alyssa, who had always had a crush on him, threw herself into his arms. When Emily looked into his eyes, it was as if nothing had changed. Their attraction was as strong as ever, despite her walking out on him and ripping out his heart. She had told him it would never work, they were from different worlds where she had money and he didn’t. Now the tables had turned. She went outside to get a lift, but Patrick came up behind her and said he would take her home, linking his arm with hers. He didn’t know her family situation yet, so when he asked about the sale sign, she thought he was mocking and she stormed into the mansion.
Knowing how talented Emily is, Patrick called to offer her a job helping with his wardrobe on the photo shoot at a premium pay scale since it was a last-minute request. She did a great job and they were able to get the shots they needed. So the next day, Patrick stopped by the mansion to offer Emily a job as head designer for his company’s new line of outdoor clothing. He knew he was difficult to work with, since his name went on the product. But he had confidence in her. Could they really work together despite their painful past? And even better, could this be a new beginning for two people who still loved each other?
This was a good story. I loved Patrick all the way through. Emily not so much, but she learned the hard way what really matters in life. She will have to deal with a threat from someone who doesn’t want her in Patrick’s life. And there are other surprises still to come. Can she turn to Patrick? Can they build something even stronger and put the bad behind them?
I really enjoyed reading this second chance love story. Patrick and Emily were high school sweethearts. He had their future all planed out until Emily put a dent into it by saying it was over between them. Ten years later circumstances has reversed and Emily’s family is in financial ruin. Patrick comes to the rescue by offering her a job and all appears to be going well. That is until someone sends Emily a warning to stay away from Patrick. This is a story that is intriguing and will have you guessing who the culprit is until the end!

High school sweethearts have to grow up sometime but Patrick got his heart broken right after prom when is girlfriend Emily suddenly tells him that they are from two different worlds, he needed scholarships for college and she was going to spend a whole year in Europe travelling. Fast forward several years and they both return to Saratoga Springs and accidentally run into each other. Only this time she is helping her parents move out of their mansion because her father lost their fortune and he is there for a magazine spread focusing on how he became a billionaire. The sparks are there but overcoming the past may prove difficult.
This is a great contemporary romance with a little heat. The characters are amazingly well defined and their feelings explored fully allowing the reader to become attached to them. The dialogue is great, the descriptions of the scenery is well done and the obstacles they face are creative. Of course their biggest obstacle is themselves as they try to come to terms with past mistakes, their fears and their uncertainties. To add to all this, the writer also weaves some unexpected twists, turns and surprises into the storyline. It is a wonderfully executed contemporary romance that is worth the read.

A wonderful second chance romantic story that switches from Emily’s to Patrick’s point of view. Ten years later, both Patrick and Emily return home to Saratoga Springs. Patrick returns successful and rich promoting his business with a magazine shoot but still thinks about Emily the girl he fell in love with in high school. Emily returns because her family lost most their money because her father invested their money into a fraud scheme, so her parents have to sell their home and move to a condo. Emily who was going to college in NYC now must reevaluate what to do now. Their lives are now reversed. When they meet again at a local bar and flee together Patrick drives her home with the attraction still simmering between them. They decide to do a fake marriage but then Emily get calls to avoid Patrick or else? Will they find who’s threatening Emily and make their marriage work? This was a well written story with twist and turns and likable characters to root for in this romantic second chance. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.

The premise was good although a thirty-year-old man forgetting to use protection was a little hard to believe.
I did like the original storyline with the best friend twist. All in all a good book.

Patrick and Emily were High school sweethearts and she broke his heart.
Ten years later they are back in their hometown and things have changed drastically. When they get close and realize their spark is still there and their feelings are stronger than ever will they be able to work through what made her end things back then? Will they open their hearts to love again? So much fun and passion with a little mystery in the mix.

This is my first book from Annie Rose and I have to say I LOVED IT! This is about Emily and Patrick. They were high school sweethearts, but she dumped him after graduation as she didn’t think their social level class would allow them to be any more than what they were currently. In other words, she was a rich snob princess and Patrick was your sweet poor guy that fell madly in love her. He had plans to be someone and provide for her if she would have had him. Well Karma knows how to get you and in this case, it was her parents’ misfortune in which now she would not be able to live the luxury life she lived and continue her education in NYC in turn making her go home to help her parents pack up and move from the mansion to a condo. Emily wasn’t as bad a character, but living at the expense of your parent for so many years should have gotten old. Coming back home wasn’t easy and now Patrick, a billionaire, former NHL player, is there in their hometown to take a photo shoot and open his new business.
Of course, he still loves her and her old feelings are still there too, even though she doesn’t want to admit it. The story takes off once he offers her a job that she didn’t apply for, but because he knows how great she is in fashion and what she is capable of doing, well needless to say, they cross some lines while working together. Will it work out and could they overcome obstacles set out by jealousy?

Good story with alot of background and history for Patrick and Emily. Fast paced with great plot development. I wish that there was more details and story for the last half of the story, it felt things were a little rushed to get to the conclusion. That aside, this is a very well written story that is very enjoyable.

Despite that everything went bad when they were high school sweathearts, they changed it to the better as adults.
A story about never giving up.
