I love this series! It’s light hearted with loveable characters that you can relate to. Leigh is so silly yet you’re thinking… yep, that sounds like my friend or that’s what I’d be thinking, as you laugh out loud at the silliness! Great read! The whole series is like this book. You have to read them all because they just get funnier!!
The power of the pen
This book was hilarious! I’m still wiping tears from my eyes after laughing so hard. The story went smoothly from one absurd situation to the next with an underlying hint of a real connection. Leigh might be new to her powers, and a bit of a disaster when using them, but she is stumbling along with no guidance. I know that this is the only book in the series with a cliffhanger, but I can’t wait to see if Hunter becomes a permanent side piece, if the girls and their guys survive their current curse, and if Leigh manages to get control of her magic. I guess I will just have to grab the next book to see what happens.
I liked all the characters and all the mischief they get into
This first book in the series kept me laughing the entire story. Leigh is a teacher who after the death of her book boyfriend (killed off by her favorite writer) decides to try her hand at writing. She acquires an antique writing desk from a lady who just wants it gone and decides to resurrect her book boyfriend Vlad, but something is going wrong. The stories she is writing are coming true with hilarious, disastrous results.
This is a laugh out loud, funny read that you won’t be disappointed in. Get the tissues because you are going to need them. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Melanie James has written a sexy, funny adventure you won’t be able to put down. I would have liked a little more detail but given that it is a series I am sure there is a lot more to come.
First off, I listened to this story on Audible, and the narrator did a great job. Hollie Jackson is the narrator for this, she did a good job brining the characters to life. Solid performance and good quality recording.
Crazy, kooky, fun read, but just not for me. The story just felt mean-spirited; especially towards men, and I just didn’t connect with the main character Leigh. She comes across as a bit mean. The premise is a fun one. Leigh is upset over how an author kills off Leigh’s book boyfriend, so Leigh decides to try writing her own stories. Things get weird and crazy when the stuff she writes starts happening to the people around her; magic is afoot! Leigh is very surprised, and doesn’t exactly handle things well in my opinion. She really should’ve just stopped writing, but she continues to make things worse and worse. I also didn’t find her story scenarios very sexy; there’s no substance to any of the romances in this book, so I didn’t connect with that aspect as well. Also, there’s a really gross scene with her parents towards the end that made me just go eww! So, overall, there’s some entertainment value in this story, but I probably won’t be continuing with this series.
Oh my gosh, what a fun story. I’ve become a fan of these paranormal romance comedies lately and James’s book definitely delivers on the laughs, not to mention some super steam. The whole adventure begins when Leigh suffers an extreme book hangover when her favorite author up and kills her favorite book boyfriend – I know right? THE HORROR! – She decides to take matters into her own hands and write a romance novel of her own, only her magic gets a teensy bit out of control and sets off a chain of events that will have you laughing out loud. This short book is part of a series and ends on a cliff hanger. Would recommend to anyone who loves steamy, comedy paranormal romance.
This is my first book by Melanie and I am in love. Leigh and her goodwill antics are so cute and this is such a feel good story. Looking forward to more books by Melanie.
