I am loving this series so much.
Each book, each couple, and each piece to the puzzle is making these books such an exciting read. I had a feeling on some things but definitely didn’t see what happened coming. Just had me more eager to read the next one.
Great installment in the consistently entertaining Sanctuary series. Simon, a Chicago cop, has a very bad day when he finds his partner cop’s body and he realizes he’s being framed for the murder. On the run, he tries to locate the Chicago Sanctuary office, a place he’s only been told about secretly by a fellow undercover officer. At Sanctuary, he meets Cain, an office administrator and sometimes field agent. As Cain helps Simon go into hiding while they attempt to solve the mystery, the two men have a hot, undeniable attraction to each other. Can the sparks these two feel for each other make it past this time working together? Note: While this book is a stand-alone, it leaves the reader with a big further mystery to uncover in the next book. I look forward to #9.
**********Contains Spoilers**********
I loved the connection between Simon and Cain. Man, I love how Cain’s brain works he’s absolutely brilliant and I love how Simon respects and likes that about him. Simon a Chicago Police Officer notices something not right with the Varga case and that Dr*g and Gangs department were trying to shut him down. When Simon and his partner Jamie were asked to assist on one of their related busts but because they were basically Rookies they were told to leave a lot of what happened with the bust out of their reports but they actually decided to go to their Lieutenant and explain what happened since it didn’t feel right to not tell anyone. They both ended up getting harassed by the other police officers since they narked.
One day Simon got a text from Jamie telling him to come over but when he arrived Jamie had been mu*dered and when Simon hears the police sirens he knows that he was setup to take the fall for k*lling his partner so he decides to take the g*n that was at the scene because all it would take would be someone placing his prints on it and he’d be charged with mu*der. He flees the scene and then tries to get into Sanctuary as Elliot who was working at CPD but was actually working undercover as a Sanctuary operative and knew that Sanctuary would be able to help them if needed.
He meets Cain in the parking garage, Cain acts natural but knows something is fishy and ends up using his secret spy plexiglass to trap Simon in the elevator is Simon ends up telling Sanctuary that he didn’t k*ll his partner Jamie and that’s the reason why he’s currently on the run and can’t go to the CPD. While they work together to clear Simon’s name and get justice for Jamie’s mu*der, they end up falling in love. Even though their relationship progressed pretty quickly like in the previous books, I didn’t mind it since people seem to connect in stressful situations so it felt real and didn’t feel forced. I loved how Cain would talk to his Ferrari and his computer but agreed to the terms of their relationship that Simon could drive his Ferrari once a month, even though it wasn’t an easy thing to say yes too since he loves his car, it just goes to show how much he trusts and cares about Simon. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
