I could not wait to get my hands on this book. The cover alone tempted me, and then seeing it was Lynette Eason had me hooked. I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Eason easily kept up her side of the bargain. From the very beginning I was biting my nails nervously awaiting what might happen next. I was taken on a jaw dropping ride and couldn’t read the pages fast enough. Sarah was the definition of tough. Smart and capable she can hold her own in a family of guys. It was fun watching her learn that while she is those things, it doesn’t hurt to let a guy be a hero here and there. The chemistry between Sarah and Gavin was undeniable, even if they tried to fight it. I really can’t blame Sarah for swooning a time or two, Gavin is a strong tattooed dose of yummy. I loved getting to know them and wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
Eason kept me on my toes the whole time. This was not one of those stories where you can guess what will happen next. She braided the perfect amount of mystery, suspense, and romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys those three things. It was awesome seeing a strong and capable female lead, and the male complimented her perfectly. They were both far from perfect and had to learn a few hard truths about themselves. And I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Action and Danger! How does Sarah Denning, a journalist with the US Army, end up in a psychiatric hospital? Sarah has done investigative reporting and sees something suspicious in all of the suicides among people who have been hospitalized there including her brother who seemed to be doing great. I admired Gavin Black who was hired by Sarah’s father, The General, to protect Sarah. Gavin is in a difficult place where he wants to get to know Sarah better and knowing she will be furious if she learns The General has hired him. Sarah has faced difficulties in her teenage years with poor judgment and knows God has forgiven her but has trouble forgiving herself or believing Gavin won’t hold it against her. I liked how Gavin helped Sarah see that her past was not who she is now. I recommend Acceptable Risk to others who enjoy romantic suspense but the suicides and other somewhat gory scenes may be difficult for some people to read. I received an advance e-copy through NetGalley and Revell Publishing. This is my honest opinion.
A clean action packed romantic suspense novel. I was hooked from the first page and read it in one sitting! Make sure you have enough time to read it all at once because you aren’t going to want to put it down!
Acceptable Risk is the second book in Lynette Eason’s Danger Never Sleeps. A story about deadly secrets, people willing to risk their life and cover ups. Hang on for a thrilling book.
Sarah Denning, a journalist in the military with the Army in the Middle East when she is taken hostage. Former Army Ranger Gavin Black is asked by Sarah’s imposing father to plan a risky rescue, he reluctantly agrees and successfully executes the plan.
When Sarah arrives home, she is angry that she has been discharged from the army under false pretenses. Once home, Sarah learns that someone close to her has committed suicide and that there is more to the story. As the mystery continues to unravel, her life is in constant danger. I could not put the book down and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
For those with to be read pile, move this book to the top.
I received a copy of the book from Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
This is an excellent addition to the series but can most definitely be read as a standalone. The story of Sarah Denning and her exploits in Afghanistan had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. Her problems with her relationship with her father were extreme but didn’t seem too unrealistic to me. Her father is a general in the army in which Sarah serves as a military journalist, so there is a lot of inherent conflict right there. When she returns to the U.S., she has to be protected by her former boyfriend, Army Ranger Gavin Black, a hero in more ways than one. Sarah is caught up immediately in finding out the truth about her brother’s suicide and her partnership with her brother Caden and Gavin is crucial to the success of the story. I really enjoyed the fast-paced action and the never-ending struggle to discover the truth. This book has me absolutely mesmerized from beginning to end and I know that I would have finished it much faster if I had not had a visit with grandchildren in the middle. This was a book that I had trouble putting down to do the regular routine, like eat and sleep. It was so good that I really didn’t want it to end, although I could see as I looked at the pages that I was nearing the conclusion. Ms. Eason knows how to tell a story that kept me entertained and enthralled, especially since it included one hazardous scene after another. I love that this book is Christian fiction and is totally clean. No expletives, no steamy sex scenes. Just plain good reading!

“I didn’t dream her.”
. . . . except that everyone around her, insists that the troubled young woman in the adjacent hospital room doesn’t even exist. Military journalist Sarah Denning is adamant that Brianne is indeed a very real person, but then again Sarah is experiencing horrific nightmares and flashbacks from a recent ordeal in Afghanistan, and has been deemed unstable enough to be discharged from the army .
Following her harrowing kidnapping experience by Middle East terrorists and subsequent rescue, Sarah’s recovery from two gunshot wounds has resulted in a period of mild convalescence . Certain that her life is still in danger, her father, a military general, hires former Army Ranger Gavin Black to protect Sarah, putting Gavin in the cross hairs of a woman for whom he dearly cares and a father whom Sarah clearly despises.
“Something’s going on, Sarah. something . . . weird. . . . Somehow we have landed right in the middle of it.”
A suspicious family tragedy deepens Sarah’s apprehension, but accelerates her determination to find some answers; she needs to find Brianne and she needs to know what really happened to her brother . . .. and then there’s Gavin. Is any of it an “acceptable risk”?
What a trail of tears, tragedies, and ultimate triumphs . . . . . enjoy this author’s signature style . . . lots of questions, an impossibly fast pace, and lovely romantic overtures.
Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason is a fabulous Christian suspense and the second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces.
Lynette Eason is a master of the suspense drama. She had me glued and guessing from the start. Her characters are all well drawn, realistic and likable. Her leading lady is a mixture of strong but struggling with the insecurities that come with PTSD. She tries to press on regardless of her internal battles.
Families are a curious blend. Sometimes the methods used to keep us safe are questionable. Cracks appear in relationships. The past must be faced and forgiveness given, as much for our sake as for the sake of others.
Pursuing wealth and power is a futile chase. The richest people are those with healthy relationships with others.
Within the novel there are some huge hearts for others.
Sometimes life puts us in situations where all we can say is “Please, Lord, send help.” God loves to answer all prayers but especially those cried out from the depths of our hearts.
I am loving this Danger Never Sleeps series and cannot wait for the subsequent books. My every thought is being consumed by the characters. Grab yourself a copy and settle down for an exciting read today.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason is an exciting read that is perfect for readers that love military fiction and suspense. Most of the book occurs post-military service but there are definitely some portions in the beginning of the book. This book seemed to have the typical PTSD that people have after leaving the military. But nothing in this book is exactly what it seems. Pick up this book and get ready for an exciting ride. The suspense never ends and you will not be able to put it down. Ms Eason’s characters were the result of the author’s deep study of psychology and they ring with authenticity. I highly recommend this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series brought flying pages, mystery, suspense, romance and intrigue. Eason’s close look at military life reflects her obviously extensive research. She portrays the problems and struggles veterans encounter with both PTSD and VA hospitals so clearly.
The main characters, Sarah and Gavin, were extremely well written. As a military journalist, Sarah had a deep need to pursue the truth in all matters especially when they concern her family. As an ex-military man, Gavin was filled with the need to protect those he cared about. Their witty banter added a delightful touch to their growing relationship. Yet both had relationships in their lives that they needed to repair, and it was enjoyable to see how they helped one another to change perspectives particularly about past choices.
I look forward to the next book in this series as Eason’s suspense is always well written.
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions are mine alone. I was not compensated for this review.
I am needing some extra coffee this morning due to being up late last night finishing Acceptable Risk. This is the newest installment in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason. This story centers around Sarah Denning and Gavin Black. Readers met both of these characters in Collateral Damage, the first in the series. I don’t even want to say much at all about the plot in the book for fear of giving something away. This book is full of action and nail-biting suspense and just the right amount of romance. Lynette Eason is a must-read author for me and this series just confirms that.
I feel like I should make readers aware that although they are handled extremely well, issues such as PTSD and suicide are addressed in this story.
This definitely can be read as a stand alone novel, but I would highly recommend reading Collateral Damage first if you haven’t already had the pleasure. I can’t wait for Active Defense, book three which releases in January.
Thank you to Revell for providing me a copy of this novel through LibraryThing. All opinions expressed are my own.
“Thank you, Captain Obvious. I hadn’t noticed.”
A nonstop thrill ride of mystery, suspense and intrigue, I loved the witty repertoire of these characters. Eason weaved together a storyline that is the fear of every veteran… and I speak this truth as a veteran myself. I won’t say much more about it as I don’t want to give away the plot. However, she writes masterfully regarding military life, the Taliban, and the struggles of veterans dealing with the VA hospital when they come home.
“Sometimes you need someone to step in and save you from yourself.”
I love the witty banter and strong female role models. Sarah’s heart for the truth and the way she can bring the facts together as a military journalist made for an inspiring read. I loved Gavin’s heart for her. His protective nature and love for her could be seen right from the beginning. As it took time for Sarah to catch up with those feelings, she learns to let go of the distrust she has for others. Letting go of her past and accepting help from others are part of Sarah’s journey. She not only learns to forgive others who have inflicted pain, but also to forgive herself. I love the heart of this story, but I especially enjoyed the way Eason kept my attention from beginning until end. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Susan May Warren, Ronie Kendig, and nonstop romantic suspense. My favorite line was this one showing how much we can do things in our own, but how beautiful it is when we allow others to help.
“He cupped her face and met her gaze. “You’re one of the strongest people I know. You’ve got this. And I’ve got you.’”
Acceptable Risk is the second book from the Danger Never Sleeps series, so I’d recommend starting with Book One, Collateral Damage. However, it could easily be read as a standalone. I loved the first one too, though!
I received an ARC through NetGalley by the publisher. I have given my honest opinion in this review.
Thank you in advance to the publisher, Revell Books, for providing an advanced review copy through Library Thing. A positive review was not required or requested, and all words are my own.
I was anticipating this read as soon as I heard about it as I’m always drawn to the romantic suspense genre (it’s my #1 favorite), add in a Military aspect, and I really wanted this book bad! This one tended more to the suspense side with the romance on the side, and very little on the romance end.
This is the second book of Eason’s “Danger Never Sleeps” series, and the cover fits book #1. While this is part of the series, Acceptable Risk acts great as a standalone read.
The only reference to Collateral Damage is Brooke being mentioned as she is a friend of Sarah’s. The woman appears briefly in it. However, I wouldn’t state the first one has to be read to enjoy it, but I did buy it after winning this one, and it is on the TBR stack. Far too many TBR books on the list, which I don’t mind – that’s actually a good thing in these times.
Getting on to the characters …
I was empathically not wild about the General. To be honestly, I REALLY disliked him and his methods. I get why he was doing what he was doing, especially with the threats as well as one son’s suicide, but I feel there could’ve been a different method.
Sarah (Rochelle Seraphina – Sarah is part of Seraphina) was rough, unpolished – yet understandable given her experiences. I really loved Gavin and Caden. Their friendship and their love for Sarah really shined here. They were skeptical, but still gave her the benefit of the doubt when it came to her claims. Those three were the strongest characters, definitely believable and realistic.
The story was told in third (3rd) person alternating between Gavin and Sarah.
This was DEEPLY intense, intensely wild, riveting, edge of seat read. It was near to impossible to put it down. I devoured it inside of 24 hours, and I wasn’t reading it consistently. I loved the pacing, action, and story that got better page after page. The chapters were fairly short which resulted in it being such a quick read.
Despite being a military themed read – there were few military terms used. I do know quite a bit of military lingo, but it wasn’t a breaking point either way.
This had an “action movie” vibe to it – the pace never stopped until the LAST chapter. It was an edge-of-the-seat, action-packed, tense read and I couldn’t figure anything out –
The plot points?
* A doctor’s suicide
* Dustin’s (Sarah & Caden’s brother) suicide
* Brianne’s hospital break down, later suicide
* Experimental medication
* Threats against the General and his family
* Dustin’s letter
So much stuff in here that kept it all believably connected and kept the story rolling. I don’t think the author could’ve expanded anywhere else as this was SO packed, and I don’t think she could’ve left anything out without creating plot holes. Just when I thought I knew where this was going – it would take a sharp turn.
In addition, Sarah is also grappling with decisions she made in her past (high school) which come around to haunt her. She doesn’t want that to impact what Gavin thinks of her.
On a side note, I LOVED Sarah’s name for Gavin’s truck – Herbie. I LOVED most of the Love Bug movies (except Herbie Goes Bananas), and I even called a little Toyota we had “Herbie”. I’m someday hoping to get a Chevy SUV, and yup … I’ll call it Herbie! Also, there is a Valley High School where I live. So, there were a few things that I was personally connected to in this story.
While distributed by Revell, a Christian/Faith themed publisher, this had some elements of trusting God, but there was nothing heavy or preachy. Nothing central to the story either.
I’m not completely familiar with all of the author’s books. However, I had read Lynette Eason’s “Protecting Tanner Hollow” novella last year as a result of being on the Revell Reads reviewer program and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I’m definitely eager for the next book in this series and can’t WAIT to see where Eason is going to take readers next.
Fans of the previous novel and those who enjoy Eason’s reads are sure to enjoy this one!
An intricate tale of danger and suspense. It will keep you enthralled. The characters and story line were fabulous. Ms. Eason certainly knows how to write a great story. From a kidnapping by the Taliban, people dying from an experimental drug in the US and to lives being threatened make this a great suspenseful story. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Readers will love the second book in this series which has a fast-paced tempo throughout. Readers risk doing nothing once you start this book, because you will not want to put it down. This book will leave you guessing what and who is behind everything that is occurring. The plot is extremely interesting and one that readers will love. Even though this is the second book in this series, readers can read this book as a stand-alone book. I recommend reading the first book as well. This book focuses on Sarah who is a military journalist who is always out to find the truth no matter what the circumstance. Gavin is a previous acquaintance of Sarah’s and he is able to help Sarah as she searches for the truth about her brother’s suicide. Sarah is tenacious and one of the most determined people who strives to overcome anything that she has had to face. This book is a Christian suspense romance book. I love the way the author is able to seamlessly go from one scene to the next. I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed! I cannot wait until the next book in this series is out!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
“Acceptable Risk” is Book Two in author Lynette Eason’s thrilling inspirational romantic suspense series, “Danger Never Sleeps”. Sarah Denning is a military journalist serving as a guest instructor at a school in the Middle East. When terrorists capture her and a young teacher and twelve female students, the situation is grim, and there is only a slim chance of survival. Sarah’s father, a high-ranking member of the US Army, calls in Gavin Black, a former Army Ranger now working as a private security agent, to rescue Sarah and the girls. Sarah is painfully estranged from her father, and she and Gavin once briefly dated–now she is stunned to have been saved by the actions of these two men working together. Just as they prepare to return stateside, they receive the devastating news that Sarah’s younger brother, who had been suffering from PTSD, has committed suicide. Sarah doesn’t believe that her brother took his own life, and when she and Gavin begin their own investigation, they discover other similar cases of supposed suicide. Working side-by-side under such emotional circumstances brings Sarah and Gavin closer together, but can they survive the danger around them and find future happiness with one another? “Acceptable Risk” is highly recommended for lovers of fast-paced, involving romantic suspense.

Acceptable Risk kept me reading late into the night. The plot was very clever, the mix of tension and attraction deftly handled and the conclusion very satisfying. I’d highly recommend this second in the Danger Never Sleeps series. It’s fast paced yet detailed, thrilling yet romantic and a completely great read.
ACCEPTABLE. RISKS….Lynette Eason
Sarah is in the Middle East as a military journalist with the Army when the convoy was ambushed and she is kidnapped. Her father a Lieutenant. calls in Gavin Black and his op team to rescue her. Evaluation when at home was false she thought and with her brother suicide she wants answer, and once again Gavin is called to help. Heavy theme dealing when one commit suicide. Can be read as a stand alone. The plot flowed and the main characters of Sarah and Gavin was good. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and Revell.
A thrilling companion to Collateral Damage. Sara Denning is an Army journalist taken hostage during an attack on a school in Afghanistan, her capture brings her face to face with Gavin Black, a man she had previously dated and subsequently ghosted. Back home and discharged, she learns of her brother’s suicide, and is determined to expose the dark web of lies threatening her family.
Sara is a skilled journalist, with natural instincts for following the clues. She has a complicated relationship with her father, who is a high ranking general in the military. She is compassionate, independant, and fiercely tenacious, fighting for what is right.
Gavin doesn’t know what went wrong with Sara, but he will do whatever it takes to help her and keep her safe. I like how he is respectful and forthright with Sara, and he’s the kind of guy you can’t not like. He thinks on his feet, and is a good problem solver.
While the second in a series, it works well as a stand alone too. Great pacing, plot, and character interaction make this book a stand out. Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. Suspenseful, with reveals that kept me on the edge of my seat. Well balanced read, filled with faith, suspense, strong heroes, and well built character arcs. Highly recommend this fantastic read, Lynette Eason hasn’t let me down yet!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Another great book by Lynette Eason, you will not be disappointed, at least I wasn’t, she kept my attention right to the end.
Whether we are in the Middles East, back in the States, in a hospital, in planes, homes, there is always action. Why? The famous I don’t care about anyone but money. Unfortunately, everyone is expendable, and we watch in horror as the story unfolds.
There is a sweet romance, a look at a family having lost a loved one, and family dynamics.
This is the second book in this series, and yes, it can be read alone. A very appropriate name for this series, Collateral Damage.
I received this book through LibraryThing and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
