If book 1, Collateral Damage, in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason is intense (and it is!), then book 2, Acceptable Risk, is intensity on steroids. From the very first page, Acceptable Risk is one wild ride and never lets up. Seriously, there are moments in this story that are so edge-of-your-seat I could barely breathe and I began to tear up. I loved every minute! Sarah Denning is an amazing heroine. She is beyond brave and courageous, and she is super smart. I would love to have 1/10th of her non-stop energy. Gavin Black is the best kind of hero. He’s strong, intelligent, capable, and compassionate. He really does have a big heart. I love how he’s able to see ten steps ahead, how he’s able to read Sarah like a book, and how he’s able to recognize his mistakes and work towards making himself a better man. I enjoyed following the mystery and trying to see if I could put the pieces together ahead of the characters. I was able to somewhat, but overall this story kept me guessing till the end. And, Acceptable Risk isn’t just a fluff Romantic Suspense story. I very much appreciate the many timely themes and messages. I especially loved the discussion on forgiveness, and how we don’t have to fall victim to our past sins. We can move forward as a new, better-improved version of our former selves. All in all, Acceptable Risk is an excellent Contemporary Romantic Suspense story that I highly, highly recommend!
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on November 30, 2020, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Sit on the edge of your seat holding onto anything you can great suspense! Original characters and plot! This book had me rooting for the good guys! Great job, Lynette! Can’t wait to read the next one!
I borrowed this book as an audiobook from my local library. Sarah Denning, an army investigative journalist, was taken hostage and rescued by Gavin Black. Her father, a general fears for her safety, gets her discharged, and hires Gavin as her bodyguard. She had PTSD and has trouble sleeping. Her brother, Dustin committed suicide, and her remaining brother Kaeden who works for the FBI helps them track down others who have committed suicide after being in Afghanistan, and the suspense builds as well as attacks on Sarah. A great book by Lynette Eason!
Just how much is an acceptable risk?
Wow! Was I surprised by just how much I liked Acceptable Risk! I hadn’t read anything by Lynette Eason for awhile but decided to give her new Danger Never Sleeps series I shot when book one came out, and, lo and behold, I liked it it. Fast forward to book two and it was even better!
Acceptable Risk was an edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense from the very first page. The action was non-stop and there were more twists and turns than a game of Chutes And Ladders. Seriously, author Lynette Eason had me hooked right off and she held me hostage until the very end.
I know the phrase has probably been well used and over used but Acceptable Risk has some of the best flawed characters. They deal with a whole range of issues including rejection, unforgiveness, unresolved anger, and even a little bit of spite. And yet, author Lynette Eason has portrayed them in such a true-to-life way that you can completely understand why, even realizing that you yourself would probably react in a similar way.
If you are a fan of romantic suspense novels that will keep you breathlessly turning the pages and anxiously awaiting the next release I’d definitely recommend the Danger Never Sleeps series. It’s a doozy!
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
You absolutely can’t go wrong with a Lynette Eason book. This second book in the series deals with some hard and sad subjects like suicide and PTSD. Issues of trust and hatred in our hearts. I think the characters are all believable and very likable. I especially loved Gavin and his attitude. Also loved Caden even though he is in a supportive role. This book could be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favor an read the first book in the series. You won’t be sorry.
This is the second book in the series, i haven’t read the first but found it easy to read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed the book it was gripping from start to finish, I didn’t realise it was a christian book.
I did find at times the story was full on and not a light read. Will definitely be reading more in the series. Highly recommend.
Acceptable Risk is about Sarah Denning, an Army journalist who, after being captured in the Middle East, rescued, and flown out for medical attention, finds out that her high ranking father has arranged for her to be discharged. Livid with her father, she also discovers that her brother, back in the states receiving treatment for PTSD, has committed suicide. Once she has returned to the United States, Sarah receives treatment for her wounds at the VA Hospital where she overhears some confusing and frightening conversations that lead her to believe that her brother’s death was not a suicide and that something sinister is going on at the VA. Gavin Black is a former Army Ranger who now runs a private security company. After he is called in to rescue Sarah and he successfully frees her from her captors, he is hired by Sarah’s father to continue to protect her. As Sarah recooperates, the two begin to uncover more information together. But they must hurry to put all the pieces of this puzzle together before they themselves are killed.
This is the first book I’ve read by Lynette Eason. As I read Acceptable Risk, I was drawn in from the beginning, and it was exciting throughout the whole story. I felt a connection with Sarah, with how her wounds from her past, especially those surrounding her father, continue to drive her, and with how she allows the mistakes from her past to define her. Besides her physical wounds, she has a lot of emotional healing to do. I also really liked Gavin. He is supportive and protective, but he also strives to understand Sarah and what her needs are, what her wounds are about, and what her triggers are. I appreciate when authors tackle or shed light on a topic that is a real concern in our lives, and in this book, I appreciate the attention given to PTSD, the seriousness of it, and the need for real help for those who suffer from their trauma. Finally, I appreciate the spiritual aspects of the story, forgiveness and grace. I look forward to checking out more books by Lynette Eason in the future.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
If you are looking for a book to keep you up at night and thinking about during the day- than look no farther then Acceptable Risk. It starts off strong and never lets up. I wondered how some of the characters even had the stamina to keep going. But their lives depended on it and to get to the bottom of the truth they needed to.
Sarah Denning is a military journalist and finds herself kidnapped in the Middle East. Not a very safe position to be in. However, as we get deeper in the story that ends up just being the tip of the iceberg of the evil that is coming her way.
This is a suspense, thriller, and a mystery all rolled up into one fantastic story. Eason also has time to show the complicated father/daughter relationship between Sarah and her father, her love interest and body guard Gavin, her friendships, and a grief that has rocked her world. Not too mention a very crazy and scary scenario of why so many people are harming themselves.
I think my very favorite part of the story was what Sarah finally realizes at the very end. You see, to me Sarah was not a really likable character. She was stubborn and rebellious and really took offense when there was none to be taken. Why? Well, that is the heart of this story.
The Elite Guardians was my favorite Eason stories, this one is my current. Looking forward to more.
I was provided a copy of this novel courtesy of Revell Publishing through Interviews & Reviews. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Lynette has given readers another exciting story with Acceptable Risk. From the opener with Sarah kidnapped in Afghanistan to the ending scenes, this book doesn’t let up once. The mystery is an interesting one and the story builds nicely while getting pieces to the puzzle and then trying to figure out how they fit. I liked Gavin very much. He was a great match for Sarah and their relationship went well with the mystery they were trying to solve. Looking forward to Heather’s story now.
I received this book courtesy of Baker Publishing Group/Revell through Interviews and Reviews.
I received this book through my NetGally account and have promised to review it for the copy. I also have seen it on Amazon and other sites but not for free.
Oh my this is book two and now I have to wait for book three. This series is a real page turner on how women who are strong and can handle things and are military but due to others determining where their lives should be or how they should be handled things go completely wrong.
Lynette takes us on journeys where she lets the woman be tough but also vulnerable and we can’t wait to see how our heroins will solve their and others problems.
In all the stories there is one person who is lying and creating the whole mess for the soldiers and they must figure out what is really going on. They also are allowed to love and have the person who will stand by them no matter what their decisions are and how they want to handle things.
This is another must read book and I can’t wait to be able to get book three.
When I first spotted Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason, I couldn’t wait to read it. It is by far one of my favorite of her books yet. Ms. Eason never disappoints when it comes to action, suspense, and intrigue. I love the tough topics tackled in the story and the relationship conflicts the heroine must battle through. The story begins overseas giving it a uniqueness right off the bat. There’s no lack of adventure, romance, and page-flipping from the start. A fabulous read and highly recommended!
Sarah Denning has experienced more of life than the average person. As a military journalist in the Middle East, she has witnessed atrocities and experienced some of her own. With her life at risk, can she help others and herself escape the perils? And what about her non-relationship with her dad? Slammed with injuries both physical and mental, Sarah faces yet another challenge when she stumbles into a different type of danger—or could it be connected to the rest somehow. Numerous threads tangle and stray as the story unfolds. Chilling and exciting, the conclusion evokes pent-up emotion as we hope for a positive outcome for all involved. Those who like suspense or military thrillers should enjoy this. It’s similar to Ronie Kendig’s and others of that genre. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This book had me on the seat of my pants. The suspense had me gripped from the first moment to the last. Sarah’s sarcasm had me cracking up. I love how she confronted the men in her life. Her passion for helping others was inspirational. Gavin complimented her strengths and weaknesses. He was able to understand her in a way that few could. He made with walls surrounding her heart fall with his love and perseverance. I like the dynamics between the two of them.
This is another book that just won’t let you rest. The first chapter leaves you wondering what it has to do with the rest of the book. But the reader finds out at the appropriate time. The characters are well developed and the action is nonstop. I love the way this author finishes her books. At around 90%, you think you know how it will end. But she throws in more twists and turns than a Twizzler has. Her endings are well thought out and explained. The book doesn’t end suddenly. The reader has a feeling that all the loose ends have been tied up and accounted for.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest opinion and review.
I could not put this book down. The books in this series just keep getting better. This book shows how we all need to listen better and learn from each other. The characters are fantastic. This has many twists and turns. There is so much action that you are not sure what might happen next. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is a non-stop romantic suspense thriller. I don’t want to spoil the story by describing it any further. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. There is a realistic mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I didn’t want to put this book down. The main characters are also believable. I love that Sarah is inquisitive, blunt, persistent, courageous, strong, and resourceful. I like that Galvin believed in Sarah and realized that it was important for Sarah to pursue the investigation. I also liked that Sarah’s brother Caden was an important part of this story. This is a terrific read.
Acceptable Risk is an engaging, well-written romantic suspense novel. Lynette’s detailed scenes prove she did her homework and researched protocol with the FBI, ICE, Police, and other government offices. The plot is realistic and plausible, and her characters are well-developed and believable. The action begins with the opening scene and continues until the end. Strap yourself in for a roller coaster ride of suspense, narrow escapes, and near-death experiences.

I give this novel five stars. Readers will not be disappointed!
I received a complimentary copy of Acceptable Risk for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.
What a great new read from seasoned author Lynette Eason! While I managed to miss reading book one of the Danger Never Sleeps series first, this second book was very enjoyable and reads easily as a standalone novel. I devoured this story in a short amount of time as the result of the fast-paced, exciting storyline that offered plenty of action. I found the main characters, Sarah and Gavin, to be tenacious and strong. Might I even add that Gavin was swoon-worthy? I loved how he protected Sarah and his tender care for her was so evident in his thoughts and actions. I also enjoyed watching Sarah’s heart change and grow as she worked through her past.
The story begins with an intense opener, slows to a mild suspense then builds in intensity, calms again and repeats, which made for a good reading pace. The romance between Sarah and Gavin leaves nothing to be desired as I chuckled over their conversation, watched their bond grow and discovered the depth each of them brought to the relationship.
This story delves lightly into the topic of suicide and PTSD without being too heavy. Either focus may be a trigger for those who’ve dealt with those feelings/actions in their own lives, or loved ones lives, so if you fall into that category, do tread carefully into this story. I feel that Eason handles the realities of these topics delicately and offers hope in her story as well. This book is best enjoyed in the context that it was intended, which is suspense and not meant to be a deep dive into the complexities of suicide or PTSS/PTSD.
Overall, I found Acceptable Risk to be an uncomplicated, enjoyable story that left me excited to go back and read the first book in the series, as well as eagerly anticipate the next book coming! It is one that I highly recommend to those who enjoy romantic suspense and mild thrillers. This story was clean and is appropriate for mature readers 16+.
Lynette Eason does it again! What a great action packed novel! From remarkable characters to a dynamic plot, the story kept my attention and didn’t let go until the final conclusion. Eason delivers exactly what fans of a suspense with a hint of romance want in a novel. I love how her novels lean more toward the suspense side than the romance side. There are some authors who layer on the romance a little more, and I tend to not enjoy those novels as much. But not Eason. Acceptable Risk is a fast paced action novel with plenty of moments of grasping of what is going to happen next as I flew through the pages. I can’t wait to read the third book in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
“You’re not that person anymore. You’ve risen above it.”
Wow. I didn’t think Lynette Eason could top her Collateral Damage (the first book in the series), but she has outdone herself with Acceptable Risk. Brimming with intense action and suspense, mind-spinning plot with shocking twists, and endearing characters, this book is another winner in the contemporary suspense genre and a must read. Although it can be read as a stand alone, I think readers will get a richer experience by reading the series in order to get everyone’s background and enjoy this tight-knit circle of friends and colleagues.
Sarah, an Army investigative reporter, and Gavin, a former Army special ops, have a past from when they served together in Afghanistan. Now Gavin runs a security company stateside and is recruited by Sarah’s father to protect her while Sarah is recuperating from a kidnapping. Sarah has a dark past and an anger problem against her father which boil up when her younger brother dies. Convinced that something strange happening in the VA hospital caused his death, Sarah puts her stubbornly dogged self to find answers and brings Gavin and her brother Caden, the FBI agent, into the fray. Little does she know that what she’s digging up is bigger than any of them could possibly imagine. Gavin is the alpha male, protective hero with a tender side who is definitely swoon-worthy. The themes of forgiveness and reconciliation run throughout the story and make the characters feel real even as they’re dodging bullets and speeding vehicles.
I received a copy of the book from Revell via LibraryThing and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
