Laith lifted his arms like, What can you do? “Come for the hot guy, stay for the gradual loss of free will.”
Yes, students everywhere can relate to the conflict between conforming vs. being unique. Academy romances are a favorite trope of mine, despite having graduated a while ago. We can all relate to these, and they often correspond to one of the major life events (birth, marriage, first job, oh, and first love).
I laughed a lot in this novel. Marissa Claire just has a way with words that transcended the plot, but the plot itself was wonderful, too. When her life is turned upside down, and she turns into a wolf just as she enters her first day in a new academy, awkward introductions are the least of her worries. Forced to visit an academy that has subjects like shifter meditation, her career prospects have disappeared like a puff of smoke. She only stays because of the hot guy in the commercial, oh, and that pesky fur problem. Laith is so funny that he even gave me a little shock of attraction. They have a wonderful rapport. The story is more than a romance, though. Along with a new bestie, Victoria, she also meets the geek pack and becomes enamored of a teacher to distract her from wanting her bestie’s boyfriend. Without giving anything away, the Dean’s List is not what you expect, and now I need, need, need to read book 2. Sigh.
Plot, theme, side characters…Marissa Claire hit a home run.
Romance is PG. There is one kiss and some touching.
This newest addition to the series Lost Alumni was quite an experience in adventure, mystery and emotions. Remi meets her brother again, learns some surprising secrets and has to make some difficult decisions. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life as told from the perspective of Remi. She had unique voices for each character so you could easily follow the story. What will Remi decide to do about the latest discovery? Read /listen to the next book to find out!
Very good beginning of academy series, although I have expected to come across at least one or two cross overs from a different academy. But then again, this is just the intro and hopefully it will happen. Needless to say, love the pack situation this MC finds herself in. The shocking news at the end, very unexpected. Book two is a definite must read now. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Not really sure how I feel about this book it’s just lacking something for me I normally I love and Academy book maybe I need to read the others in the series to get a better grasp of the series you have your usual protagonist the mean group the social awkward group Remi’s group some hotties and the surly guy that usually turns into the hero just when the pluck but gutsy heroin needs help not that Demi is helpless she’s just figuring things out it all started with some dreams then she ends up naked in the forest and you guessed it she ends up at and Academy and that’s all I’m going to say.
I was allowed to receive and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Remi has had a rough life. Placed in to the foster system when she was young caused her to eventually lose contact with her brother since nobody wanted the both of them. She was bounced from home to home never belonging anywhere or becoming part of a family. Finally she’s enrolled in college, but before she makes it to orientation, aka the Sorting Ceremony, she goes for walk. The woods are calling to her, and her life is about to be changed. She’s met by 2 wolves and a bear, but WTF!? She has paws. The wolves are the Chancellor & Vice-Chancellor, and the bear a Dean at the Academy of Shifters. When they show her a promotional video for the academy, she shifts into her wolf at the sight of a HAF mountain lion shifter when he shifts for the camera. Unfortunately, she gets stuck as she doesn’t know how to shift back. Nothing liike showing up at shifter college in fur when everyone else is in their human skin upon arrival.
She’s bullied just as soon as she shows up, which causes her to shift back to her human self. Luckily, another girl is there & befriends her. What Remi wasn’t expecting was for her new friend to be the girlfriend of the mountain lion shifter from the video. Meet Laith, one of only 2 mountain lion shifters at the school. The other one just happens to be Remi’s new friend. Things go from bad to worse when she has an unexpected shift start in the library only to have it stopped by one of the professors. Six weeks later she’s on the verge of flunking out because she is unable to shift. She is offered help with trying to get her wolf back by the same professor who helped her stop the shift. Life gets more complicated for Remi as she discovers things that are happening at the school, including something important about her brother.
I love Remi and all of the characters. The story is kind of all over the place with secrets from all of the characters, and Remi being on a “need to know” from the faculty. This is what had me rating the story as 4 stars. The story ends on a cliffhanger leaving you wanting more for book 2.
Remi says everything as it is, no hold back. Somethings this gets her into trouble. We have a little mystery and of course you always what to know what is going to happen next. What she don’t understand is getting shipped of to a Academy. Why is she a wolf? Who is that hot guy, really a mountain lion? Who is this professor and why is he trying to help me?? He’;s hot too. But its her best friends boyfriend. Why am I told to keep my secret? What is really going on? Are they really looking out for me?

Remi St. James had something happening to her that she could not identify. She began to have blackouts, strange nightmares, and then actually woke up completely naked in a forest. She had no memory of what happened, but eventually discovered it was all part of her changing into something else, something supernatural.
Remi enrolls in Keller Parks State College to find a bit of normalcy in her life. But an enticing wander in the woods brings her into contact with the Gladwells and she subsequently ends up in the Gladwell Academy of Shifters which supposedly helps students awaken their abilities and will help her specifically figure out what’s happening to her. Unfortunately, she had to deal with some nasty bullies and Laith Brightona, good-looking but an arrogant jerk mountain lion. She’ll have all the usual adjustments to make that anyone in college has, except these are more extreme with the supernaturals she has to learn about and deal with.
Parts of the book were straightforward, while others jumped around a bit. However, overall, my love of shifters kept me reading and enjoying the story. Grab your copy and see what Remi’s first year is like – and whether she will actually survive it!
Remi finally has a place she feels good about but is it all a lie? Remi has always been different. That is why she bounced around to so many foster homes. No one wanted her. But now she is starting college and has her life ahead of her. On the first day she is drawn into the woods, shifter into a wolf and is taken by two wolf shifters and a bear shifter to an academy for shifters. She is teased and heckled for days by a certain crown but has made several friends. But one of her new friends has a boyfriend that Remi is very attracted to. Every time they touch she feels tingles all over. But she can’t act on her feelings. And she went from being the first student to hold her shift for a long time to all of a sudden she can’t shift and might be thrown out. Then she and Laith, the hot lion shifter she likes discover something terrifying. Certain students are on a list and the meaning of the list is not good. These students could be in danger.
This is practically a roll on the floor, don’t pee your pants, laughing out loud book!
The enarky comments, the mean girls who think they rule the school, the guys who look good and know it (and those that don’t pay it any attention). In other words, this is just like any other high school, only you have to factor in the full moon, sprouting extra fur, and enjoying your food just a little more rare.
This book is the perfect debut novel for the Academy of Shifters series, and Ms. Claire is a rare one indeed to bring such an amazing world with such a group of characters together.
If you haven’t read any of Ms. Claire’s books yet, I suggest you give this book a try ASAP. You will be sorry if you don’t!
All Remy wants to do is find her long lost brother Rohm. She is offered the chance to do so but only if she attends a school that will allow her to live with her werewolf self. Along the way she faces what seems like insurmountable problems that lead her to what she desires.
This book was really, really good. The plot and characters are really well written and the flow of it is quick and very readable. I recommend to all who like paranormal books.

Loving this series already! At first, I was personally offended by Remi’s disdain for nerds, but it didn’t take long for me to warm up to her. I enjoyed learning about the shifter world right alongside her. There are many other fun and unique characters to adore as well. Especially Laith, the hot mountain lion and Hickoree, the wild nerd.
Plenty of trouble arises at Gladwell Academy. The story wasn’t predictable and had me on the edge if my seat at times. Fair warning, it ends on a cliffhanger, so make sure you have book 2 at the ready!
*Spoiler Alert*
Remi (FMC) has just found out shes a werewolf and all the complications that come with that revelation. Namely being enrolled in The Gladwell Academy. A school for shifters. A place where not only some of the students but also some of the teachers dont want her there. Mean girls, secrets and lies keep you on your toes reading it. The banter between Remi and Laith was a laugh to read and that cliffhanger ending was just brilliant. Never saw that coming! This is a great book and a great start too
* I’m volunteering to review this arc *

I enjoyed reading this book and thought that all the characters were quite entertaining. Looking forward to reading the next book of the series.
I enjoyed Remi’s tale. It moves at a decent pace and has a good flow. Although it was a little predictable at times it didn’t take away from the overall story.
It has some nice plot twists too. I’m curious to find out what happened to Remi’s twin brother. (3.5)
I love this. Mystery after mystery. Budding romance, shifters, secret society, and secret powers. This story has it all. Bring on book 2.
