Academy for Monsters is the first book by Madeline Fay and Jenee Robinson of their co-written book in their new series Descendants of Nightmares. If you are a fan of the “old” monsters – Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, etc then this is the book to pick up! It is absolutely delicious and you won’t want to put it down as it pulls you deeper within its dark pages full of steam, drama, and angst.
Academy for Monsters is a truly delicious book that had me hooked from beginning to end. I couldn’t have put this book down if I had wanted to and trust me…there was not one second of where I wanted to part with this book all the way to the end. This book gives readers the children of the old monsters and how one, Dru, is working towards the path of being the queen over all the monsters. She’s looking forward to her time at the academy, but what she doesn’t know is that her friends have changed a bit…or for a couple…quite a lot. While yes they have all changed physically it’s the mental side that she is going to have to worry about the most. Add in a “new” monster and things are about to get dangerous in more ways than one.
As I read this book I couldn’t tell you who wrote which part of this book. I love it. I absolutely love it when two authors can come together and so seamlessly blend their writing styles to create such a masterpiece of a storyline. Dru is truly an engaging character and I love that she doesn’t have a spoiled or bratty demeanor. She has her own issues that she is suddenly struggling with as she also has to deal with the drama and issues thrown at her from seemingly all sides.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book gives you academy with steamy, lots of drama, and a deadly kiss of danger that is closer than any of them can think. If you’re looking for a good book to pick up and devour then this one that I should grab, just make sure to clear your schedule because you won’t be doing anything until you’ve turned the last steamy page.
Ghoul! This book was absolutely everything. I loved seeing the children of the original monsters! Madeline and Jenee wrote this in a way that you don’t fear the monsters but fall in love with them.
I devoured this book in just a few hours. I couldn’t put it down. It was well written with humor, lore and lovable characters. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Dru and the guys
Well if this didn’t make my Classic Horror movie loving heart happy I don’t know what would! This was such a fun idea and I really enjoyed the story. If you love the original horror classic movies from Hollywood (think 1930’s) then this is the book for you!
Drucilla (thank you for the Buffy homage) is the daughter of Count Dracula, she what’s to find her way in the “normal” world but also finds herself learning about life and others at the Academy of Monsters. Here she meets the next generation of monsters and her friends: Jr. (son of the monster in Frankenstein), Thorn (so of the Phantom), Matthias (son of the Mummy) and Watt (son of the Werewolf); among other characters. What she soon finds is all these friends trying to get her to go back home, she doesn’t belong here, with them. Also in the mix is Vex (son of Van Helsing) and as many of us know, mortal enemies! I don’t want to give much away because this is a short but pack full story line that must be read to be enjoyed.
The dynamics of this story were great and I loved the play on both the second generation of these creatures and the turn of bad buy vs good guy. The scenes were great and well thought out and I enjoyed the way the story progressed. There is definably a book two and I cannot wait to see where that takes me. The characters were so unique and really got me excited. This is definitely my idea of the perfect RH story! 3.75 stars.
