This book has an interesting plot but was much too long. It would have benefited from editing to speed the pace.
Can’t believe the author claims to be an English major
I found this book disappointing, but readily admit that could be because I wrongly thought that a plot that involved the faculty and administration at an upscale college would be geared more to adult readers. Such was not the case. Ultimately I decided that my youngest granddaughter might enjoy it. Being a young teen, she might find the characters–who struck me as more a collection of cliches– and the lame plot much more amusing and intriguing than I did.
The characters and plot in this book were just okay. The author tried to balance a murder mystery with a man’s estrangement from his domineering father. At the same time, a beloved grandmother and acquiescent mother made occasional appearances. The story had no clear direction. In n the end, very conveniently, a job opens up at the college . A little too pat.
This book is mildly interesting, but there are so many ridiculous things in it. He makes teaching look simple since there is no prep of ideas or materials involved. No baseball player is put on a major league team straight from college. First there is a draft and then a player goes to the minors. But in this book, one scout can put a player on a major league team. He just happens to run into so much information before the police can. There are many possible suspects which makes it interesting.
Too many boring details at the start of the book. I didn’t finish it. If the plot & storyline do not “grab” me within the first 5 pages, I give up on it.
He just kept writing; repetetive facts. Murder mystery that did not feel mysterious. His characters including the lead man were not really likeable. And I hate that the ending is the lead into a new book-Oh, she’s not dead after all…now read my next book to find out why-yuk.
