For long-time Durango Fire Department EMT, Ava ‘Blue’ Navarro, her teammates at Station 3 represent a family more loyal than her own. However, when patients start dying on her watch, she draws the attention of local law enforcement. In particular the smooth-talking detective she’s successfully evaded for years, fearing he might stir up her quiet existence. Detective Tony Ramirez considers … considers himself a likable guy, which is why the perpetual cold shoulder from the athletic blonde first responder is confusing. Now he finds himself in charge of a murder investigation that threatens to shake his world both personally and professionally. A situation that won’t earn him any brownie points.
When medical examiner, Calder Stonewall, is called in to assist, it only seems to throw more suspicion Blue’s way, and Tony has to pull out all the stops to prove her innocence while securing her heart.

I fully enjoyed reading about Blue and Tony. The characters are so well written that you feel them and their emotions. Blue is a paramedic and unfortunately some of her recent patients have not made it. It isn’t all that unusual but their seem to be some weird circumstances around them. Eventually there is an investigation and Blue is seen as the prime suspect. Tony has liked Blue and runs into her at the hospital one night and asks her out. She turns him down. When she ends up adopting a dog the two become co parents and slowly more. When Blue is brought under investigation Tony is not happy about it. Great story that pulls you in from the start. I couldn’t put it down. After you read this one go back and read about everyone else.

Another winning story by an author who has the skill to masterfully create extraordinary characters from ordinary folks.
This is Blue and Tony Ramirez story. An EMT and a detective who have had their eye on each other from afar. As they put their dating tactics to the test a series of murders shake the torn and their relationship to the core.
This read was the perfect blend of passion, mystery and suspense.
I was easily enthralled by the moving and angsty story that developed as Blue and Ramirez try to work on their romance as well as solving the sinister mystery surrounding Blue.
The title was spot on.
The added factors affecting their situation gave the story more depth.
How it all unfolds make this read a must!
4.5stars!
Mystery with some suspense in it. Well written and great to read! Sometimes people get very lucky when they get adopted or a step family. Blue was not lucky and ended up seriously physically abused. She has put her family behind her but did they all stay there. She is still haunted and suffers flashbacks, i.e. PTSD. She pulls with in herself but Tony is not having it. He’s taking the bricks down, one at a time. She ends up being more than a person of interest when patients she has cheated are dying. What’s that all about. Be ready for some surprises!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Absolving Blue is a perfect addition to Freya Barker’s On Call series! She does a great job of combining memorable characters and a storyline filled suspense and intrigue that will keep you riveted from beginning to end!
It was easy to fall in love with both Blue and Tony. They each have big hearts and a strong need to help others. They have worked together for years but Blue has hidden herself and her emotions away from everyone. Her past has been painful and she just wants to live a quiet life until that tainted past comes back to possibly take away the future in a career that she loves and a relationship that is just getting started. Tony had watched Blue for years but has kept his distance until he sees a flicker of light in Blue that she has kept hidden. He is drawn to this light and he knows that this is his opportunity to pursue the woman he desperately wants, but first he has to protect her from her past and prove her innocence!
I was really looking forward to Tony Ramirez and Ava “Blue” Navarro’s story and Freya totally did not disappoint. I loved spending time with these characters. This story had everything you’ve come to expect from a Freya Barker book and so much more.
Blue is such an intriguing character and when she and Tony are together the sparks just fly. She has such a big heart, she cares about her family at work and she cares for the patients she comes in contact with being an EMT. When they mysteriously start dying she takes it to heart. Tony steps up to investigate. I love how he has her back and does whatever it takes to not only protect her but to get to the bottom of what’s going on.
I did not want to put this book down. I love these characters and this story was a home run!
ABSOLVING BLUE (Police and Fire Operation Alpha Series, On Call Book #4) by Freya Barker is another great romantic suspense addition to this series. This book can be read as a standalone, but there are several crossover characters from previous books in this series and others from Susan Stoker’s Operation Alpha world. I have enjoyed reading all the “On Call” books in order.
Durango Fire Department EMT, Ava “Blue” Navarro holds her own with all her teammates at Station 3. She considers them her family, but no one knows anything about her biological family. Blue works hard and volunteers at the humane society, but she does not get close to anyone to date.
Detective Tony Ramirez has had his eye on the tiny, athletic first responder, but he receives nothing but the cold shoulder from that direction. Tony finally gets a way into Blue’s life by offering to share responsibility for her new rescue dog. As the two begin to see each other, Blue opens up to the handsome detective, but it could all be derailed when Tony’s new investigation involves patients dying after emergencies that Blue has ties to.
As Tony works to prove Blue’s innocence, her past returns to threaten her new life. And even as the growing evidence is incriminating Blue, Tony and all of his colleagues work to prove her innocence. Her life will depend on what they discover.
I love this series and this book was another great read from this author! I have been waiting for Tony to meet the woman who was right for him and Blue is perfect even with all of the past and present drama she brings with her. The romance moves at a realistic pace as Blue opens up and begins to share with Tony who is being very supportive. The sex scenes are explicit, but not gratuitous. I love how Ms. Barker gives me mature characters to read about; both Tony and Blue are in their forties. The suspense story kept me on the edge of my seat even knowing who they were looking for it was still a page turner.
I loved this book as I have all the books in this series. Ms. Barker never fails to give me realistic, genuine, mature and likable characters. She is a must buy author for me.
No one combines heart stopping romance with edge of your seat suspense quite the way Freya Barker does. Absolving Blue perfectly show cases her ability to completely captivate someone with romance so real you find yourself falling in love and mystery with twists and turns that will shock you. I started reading this in the evening thinking I’d relax for a bit before bed and the next thing I knew it was the middle of the night and I devoured every single page.
There was just no stopping when it came to Blue and Tony. They were such fantastic characters on their own. Blue with an unbelievable strength but made more human and so relatable with her vulnerable side. And Tony with his unwavering support, belief and love. These two together are a couple that make it so easy to love them. With obstacles being thrown at them left and right they continue to fall deeper and deeper pulling you right along with them.
Absolving Blue is yet another magnificent must read from Freya Barker!
Ava must prove her innocence as circumstances start pointing the finger at her in her job. Enter Detective Ramirez and sparks fly. This is the fourth book in On Call series and caught my attention from the first. Enjoyed the Characters and story line. Looking forward to the next offering from this author.

This author always delivers some amazing stories that are but intriguing and steamy. This is the story about Durango EMT Blue and Durango Police Detective Tony. Their story is both suspenceful and steamy. Loved how he stuck by her when she gets investigated and their chemistry is off the charts.
This is a fantastically written heartfelt and emotionally gripping story! The author has a talented way of weaving the perfect balance of angst and steam that captivated me to the end. It’s a suspenseful story, in a “who done it” way that includes all the feels! My heart hurt for Blue. Gah! What she’s been through!!
Having suffered major trauma in her past, Blue is left mentally and emotionally scarred. She’s learned early on that the only person she can trust is herself. Now she’s built a new life, one she is good at and enjoys. But once again, her past finds her. This time it isn’t letting go.
Tony “the charmer” is a detective who has had Blue on his radar for a while. Even though Blue shuts him down every time, he isn’t giving up.
“For a moment you forget to shield your emotions when I looked into your eyes.” “I always thought you were aloof-distant, even cold-but in that moment I knew I’d been very wrong.”
Tony’s going to do everything he can to tear down Blue’s protective walls, brick by brick. I really, really loved these two! It was fun to see Blue push Tony’s charming ways off kilter and how Tony was able to see passed Blue’s armor. They made each other vulnerable while simultaneously, providing the strength for each to grow in their own way.
Around her people are dying. Blue soon finds that she’s the sole factor tied to the deaths, making her the number one suspect. She’s spent so long surviving by not trusting others. But now, to survive she’ll have to put her trust in others. For the first time she’ll have to go against her instincts. Can she do it?
This book is another example of Freya Barker’s ability to write incredible stories with suspense, intrigue, and steam implemented with the perfect dose of humorous reality.
A book I highly recommend.
I read an ARC of this book. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
For long term Durango Fire Department EMT, Ave “Blue” Navarro, her teammates at Station 3 represent a family more loyal than her own. If you have read the previous book in this series then you know that they are good. This one is no exception and my favorite in the series. I love Tony and Blue. Blue has a past that is shocking and will have you reeling and wondering how she handles it all. She has also been avoiding him as much as possible but now with all these deaths she can no longer avoid him. Especially when she becomes the main suspect in these cases. You just need to read this book. I do not want to give anything away. It’s good and you need to read it now.
You are going to love this story! Tony and Blue – sigh – a fantastic match! Both characters are strong willed and how they grew to be who they are as adults just adds to the goodness you will read. I don’t know how Freya Barker does it, but she manages to have a story that grabs you from the beginning, stirs in some mystery, a pinch of sassy, a dash of male pride, some hot sauce and HOLY TAMALES – You got one freakin’ hot, yummy story! Love, love reading and re-reading ALL of Freya Barker’s stories – An absolute one-click every time.
Let me start by saying that I loved this story. Freya Barker writes female characters that are strong, vulnerable, intelligent, and hugely appealing, and Blue is one such character. It is she that first notices the odd deaths in the people she’s treated or rescued, and it is her awareness and courage that eventually lead to a very satisfying conclusion. Tony Ramirez is the detective in charge of this case, and that puts him potentially in an adversarial position against her. She’s been brushing him off for forever – but he’s a good man to have on side. It’s fabulous to have a visit from Calder Stonewall, the book’s tie-in to the Operation Alpha world, and, as always, Barker has seamlessly included that world. This is a definite favorite for me.

4 Stars
Absolving Blue is the fourth title in the On Call series featuring Tony Ramirez and Ava (Blue) Navarro. This title is intriguing and suspenseful with ties to Susan Stoker’s Police and Fire Rescue series.
Tony Ramirez is a detective with the Durango Police Department, and this sexy alpha has a reputation as a player. Behind his cocky exterior is a heart of gold. He’s a kind, caring and protective man.
Ava is an intriguing and complex heroine. She’s a paramedic with the Durango Fire Department and strong, resilient and independent, but has a soft heart and feels deeply.
The chemistry between this pair is undeniable. The characters are complex and well developed and I’m looking forward to Ms Barker’s next release.
Tony & Ava/Blue
EMT Blue loves her team but stays back from them–and everyone else who tries to get close. She has a past. She doesn’t share it and because of that, trust doesn’t come easily. Still, she can’t help being attracted to Tony. A detective who often works with the Fire Department.
Tony determines to find a way to get past that wall Blue has around her. He wanted to get to know her. Okay, he wanted to really close to her.
This is a good series. Each book is complete but the reader gets to visit with the previous couples as they are part of the team and there is plenty of interaction.
Will Tony get through her past and help her deal? Or will her past come back to haunt her and those with her? Will there be surprising issues that can prevent them from any kind of personal relationship?
An emotional, steamy, romance fill with intrigue.

Absolving Blue is book 4 in Freya Barkers On Call series. Ava “Blue” Navarro is an EMT for Durango Fire Department. She’s tough, thoughtful, and loyal. But no one can really get close to her, not even her friends. Detective Tony Ramirez has been interested in Blue for a few years, but because of her “do not approach” attitude, he’s been admiring her from a distance. Strange happenings, shared custody of a dog, and questionable deaths finally bring these two together. Tony and Blue have amazing chemistry both in and out of bed. Freya continues to weave together an incredible story with an impressive cast of characters! This series just keeps getting better and better. I love being able to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I can’t wait for her next book!
The On Call Series is a remarkable, well-written, intense and suspenseful one….and I can’t get enough of it, or of Ms. Barker’s signature writing! I have loved every single one of them, all of which can be read as standalones. Each story builds off the previous, creating layers upon layers of wonderful characters who FEEL so REAL….I want to live forever in Freya’s Durango!
With Absolving Blue she has written my FAVE couple in this series to date! And that’s saying something because I have LOVED every single one of them! There’s just something about Durango’s resident “manwhore” Tony (who, by the way, is really anything BUT) and the closed-off, don’t-come-too-close Ava “Blue” (she has a past she does NOT want discovered) that hit me so hard in the FEELS! The chemistry between these two is OFF-THE CHARTS and the push-pull between them is EPIC!!! Added to all that is the heart-stopping suspense and intrigue surrounding the sudden deaths that appear to point directly to Ava and Tony’s totally ALPHA-TO-THE-MAX personality EXPLODES!!!! I couldn’t get enough!
All in all, Absolving Blue is another INCREDIBLY well-written MUST READ from an author who continually hits my Top Reads list with every book she writes! Do yourself a favour and start with ANY of the books in the On Call series (or ANY of Freya Barker’s other books)….you will NOT be disappointed!
The book is a good romantic suspense read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, well rounded, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable, fast pace, intense action, romance read.
