For long-time Durango Fire Department EMT, Ava ‘Blue’ Navarro, her teammates at Station 3 represent a family more loyal than her own. However, when patients start dying on her watch, she draws the attention of local law enforcement. In particular the smooth-talking detective she’s successfully evaded for years, fearing he might stir up her quiet existence. Detective Tony Ramirez considers … considers himself a likable guy, which is why the perpetual cold shoulder from the athletic blonde first responder is confusing. Now he finds himself in charge of a murder investigation that threatens to shake his world both personally and professionally. A situation that won’t earn him any brownie points.
When medical examiner, Calder Stonewall, is called in to assist, it only seems to throw more suspicion Blue’s way, and Tony has to pull out all the stops to prove her innocence while securing her heart.

Let me start by saying I am a huge Freya Barker fan and this latest book is no exception. Tony Ramirez and Ava “Blue” Navarro’s story has it all, romance, suspense, warmth, healing and sexy times. I love the chemistry between this couple and the way Ms Barker makes it seem so effortless as they fall in love under such trying circumstances. Every book she writes makes me fall more in love with her characters. I laugh, I cry and I swoon. I feel like I want to live in this town, to know these people and call them friends. I highly recommend this book and in fact anything by this author.
I have been absolutely loving the On Call series so far, and Absolving Blue is another great story!
We have gotten to know Tony over the past few books as a bit of a player but a genuinely good guy who has taken his shots but missed when it comes to a few of the author’s other heroines. Now we know why: his future was reserved for the quiet but fierce EMT Ava “Blue” Navarro. Their backgrounds could not be more different with Tony coming from a loving family while Blue’s family was enough to send her running as soon as she reached the age of 18. Her past taught her to keep people at a distance while keeping her feelings on lockdown, but she has come to realize that her crew at the fire station has become her new family of choice.
Tony Ramirez has always scared the crap out of her because he is exactly the type of hottie charmer she could see herself falling for; unfortunately past experience has taught her those kinds of men are the ones she should run, not walk, away from. She is absolutely devastated when patients she has cared for begin dying unexpectedly, and she is horrified when she is placed under the microscope of suspicion when law enforcement determines she is the common thread connecting all the deaths. Tony surprises her with his unwavering belief in her innocence and she finally lets her guard down enough to let him past some of her defenses. Her past is about to come back to bite her in a big way though, and her lingering secrets may just spell the end for both her job and her budding relationship with Tony.
Once again Ms. Barker blends romance and suspense with a healthy dose of heat and humor for one wonderful read that I couldn’t put down once I dove in. Oh and did I mention an absolutely adorable rescue mutt named Arthur that steals Blue’s heart along with Tony’s- and mine! Multiple threads of plots are skillfully woven to connect with a few “whoa” moments that I wasn’t expecting, and I am already looking forward to whatever comes next for this group of characters that I have come to love!
This story has everything from action, danger, deaths, setups and newfound love. When Blue’s past comes to haunt her, at least she has Tony (a detective) who likes her and is there to help. Sumo her paramedic buddy is very protective of her. Yes there’s heat, but i love a great story line and that exceeds into each chapter. HEA
Tony Ramirez intrigued me in Burning for Autumn and I am happy he gets his own story. Ava “Blue” Navarro is the perfect woman to become his significant other (eventually.) Blue is feisty and a take no prisoners kinda gal. She’s had to be working with all that testosterone. This story was really quite suspenseful and kept me guessing right down to the end. Tony’s support and tenacity in trying to prove all the finger pointing wrong bolsters Blue when she begins to doubt herself. Falling for Tony was easy part. Hoping he stays around after she reveals her deepest secret will be the hard part.
This series just keeps getting better. Blue had a challenging past to say the least, she was strong and fierce and a perfect match for Tony, who decided to finally go after what he wanted despite Blue avoiding, and downright ignoring him in the beginning. This story also touches on PTSD and deals with the subject head on, so much can be done when the one suffering reaches out, there’s never any shame in that, the courage to do so is amazing.
What a great book! There’s action, mystery and romance, plus, meaningful family moments. Ava ‘Blue’ Navarro worked as an EMT, along with other dedicated service workers when patients at the hospital unexpectedly died. Detective Tony Ramirez gets involved as he investigates this situation plus other cases in the community. He has long watched ‘Blue’ as she navigates accidents, in home illnesses and tasks that lead her into dangerous areas. She seems to have no family in her life and he has loving family at every turn. I loved the story-line which navigated through murders and the discovery of personal losses that ‘Blue’ has suffered. Along the journey, can they find each other; can they make a meaningful life; or, will all be lost. This book takes many turns and I found special situations here and there that will remain with me for a very long time.
He is a detective she is an EMT someone is giving people a drug that kills them slowly She is suspected of helping them or providing them with it they get to the bottom of the mystery he helps her with her issues they have sizzling romance and a wonderful happy ending

Now its about Blue and Tony. In former books were little hints, that they dislike each other. But no. Tony is all in, but Blue is hiding a lot in her life. A bad past. I love this series as I adore every book written by Freya Barker. Her characters went so well. Tony is the right man for Blue who needs someone to believe her. The moment she thinks Tony might do right her past gets back to her. A lot of pressure is added to the game. Both fight hard to find stability in life and their beginning relationship. The suspense grabbed me and left me chewing nails. Couldn’t stop reading. And there is another hero in this book. Arthur the dog from shelter. All characters are well described and the chemistry is breathtaking and hot
Always when I open up any one of Freya’s books, it feels like I’ve come home to visit my old friends, and then get to meet a new one. I really enjoyed this book from start to finish, no complaints at all.

The Absolving Blue is a good romantic suspensive read. The story was amazing. The characters are good, well written and the chemistry between them was to die for. The story is an enjoyable, fast pace, intense action, romance read. Freya hasn’t let me down on any of her books yet. I love all of her books! Well done Freya. Cant wait to see what u have lined up next.
Blue is an EMT and the first pages of this book show her rescuing Mr. Brownslee, and he’s quite the character, even though he’s in a mangled car. The story takes off from there and it’s a wild ride. Blue is passionate about her work but when people start dying around her she wonder’s whats going on. In comes Tony Ramirez, pain the ass police detective. Before you know it, she’s tripping a suspect in the woods and wanting to stun the suspect. From there it goes to dog sharing and quite the windy path for these two to finally start working together. Pink houses, bathroom renos, nosy neighbours, lots and lots of take out. All ends well, especially Arthur and Guinevere.
Highly recommend this book/series and especially Ms. Barker.
Tony Ramirez’s HEA has been a long time coming, and Ava ‘Blue’ Navarro is his perfect match.
No one quite satisfies my need for solid story telling and older adults romance like this author, I highly recommend her books.
Tony is a detective and has been attracted to Blue but she keeps him at arm’s length. Blue is a paramedic with the fire department and people who she has worked on are dying and it looks like murder. Tony and Blue are thrown together because of the murders. The more they get to know each other the more they know the should be together. I really enjoyed this book.
Freya has hit another home run with this book. I absolutely love the interactions between Blu and Tony! Perfect pairing.
She guides you on an emotional roller coaster throughout the entire book and leaves you at the edge of your seat throughout. Blue is a tough as nails paramedic and Tony is smooths things out so well. Add in Arthur the dog and you got a spectacular book.

I enjoyed this romantic and suspenseful story! This is an intriguing read that sucks you in. Love the chemistry between Ava and Tony! Sparks are definitely flaming up. Ava has found a family of a different variety but mostly keeps to herself. Tony comes off as player and all charm. As their story develops you get to see different aspects of these two characters. What a wonderful story. I love how the story progresses and develops! It’s murder, mystery, suspense and so much more.
This is book four in the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series. Ava also known as Blue is an EMT with the Durango Fire Department and she is feeling more of a family vibe with her coworkers than with her own family. She has bigger fish to fry as patient’s start dying on her watch. Tony is a detective for the Durango Police Department, he catches the case to prove her innocent and fingers crossed win Blue’s heart. I enjoyed reading this book, getting to know this amazing layered characters and their story of hopefully a HEA. This road is not always rainbows and roses but reality makes for a great read. Enjoy!
