Brandon Forte is a man on a mission to help his fellow soldiers, and the K-9’s who supported them in battle by opening a facility in his hometown that helps their beloved K-9’s return to civilian life. The other part of his mission is to reunite with the girl he left behind the day he shipped off to serve his country, the beautiful Sophie Kim. They have always just been friends, but Brandon realized that he wants more than that, now he just has to hope she feels the same way…
The day that Brandon shipped off to serve his country without so much as a goodbye he broke Sophie Kim’s heart, and it has taken her a long time to get over him, but now that he is back in town to stay she has to face all those long buried feelings and what if’s. Since he has been home they have rekindled their friendship, but when things in Kim’s life take a dangerous turn, Brandon steps in to be her protector…and from there the sparks start to fly!
This is my second visit to the series, and I have to say I enjoyed this trip just as much as the first, Ms. Drake has a special way of blending toe curling romance and thrilling mystery seamlessly and giving readers a perfectly balanced read. Definitely one of the best reads I have had the pleasure of diving into in a while…they kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through!! Highly recommend this series, it’s sure to satisfy!!
Another engrossing romantic suspense mystery. I enjoyed the second chance high school sweethearts angle for these two characters we’ve seen in the past books. I’m interested to see who comes next as there aren’t any ready candidates. This is a steamy romance.
Absolute Trust is the third book in the True Heroes Series by Piper J. Drake. It is an action-packed, suspenseful, enjoyable romance! This is Brandon Forte’s, owner of Hopes Crossing Kennels (in New Hope), and Sophie Kim’s story. Brandon and Sophie have a long history together. They were romantically involved in their younger years up to the day the graduated from High School. Brandon left that night and joined the military without saying goodbye to Sophie. Brandon never told Sophie WHY he left without telling her WHY he left. He kept coming back to New Hope between deployments. Sophie was there extending him her friendship. When Brandon “retired” from the military, he started Hopes Crossing Kennels with two friends (dog trainers), David Cruz and Alex Rojas. Sophie assisted Brandon with accounting for the Kennels and also cooked delicious pastries and other foods for the staff at the Kennels. Absolute Trust opens with a “bang”! Brandon and Haydn (German Shepherd Dog) in training meet Sophie in New Hope and walk her to her car. Unfortunately an IED (Improvised explosive device) was hidden in her car! Haydn signals Brandon there is an explosive in the car. Brandon rushes Sophie and Haydn away from the car. The resulting explosion ends up with Sophie in the hospital with various bruises and scratches and an injured ankle. Brandon and his friends are determined to find out WHY Sophie was targeted! The adventure and romance begins and is a pure delight to read! I highly recommend this story and all of the books in the True Heroes Series.
I ended up stopping at pg. 124 around 38% in.
This is the first time I’ve read Ms. Drake and a book in the True Heroes series. Their are previous characters around, ones that are couples now and friends to our leads, and so I’m missing out on the connections. I don’t feel the camaraderie or friendships like I might if I read the books in order.
As for Absolute Trust everything feels slow. The plot is slow and the romance is nonexistent. Even with them both having torches for each other since high school. I’m just not feeling the the chemistry and romance.
Up to this point no action has happened. We’ve had a car booming and an attempted apartment burglary/try to kill our heroine, but it wasn’t action associated, just things that happened to our leads, then we move on.
I’m not sure if I’ll try reading this again. I do have book one on request at my library and maybe I’ll pick up Absolute Trust again after I try out the previous books published.
