Very heart-wrenching story and very well told. Characters are well developed and likeable. Good read.
An historical novel written about fictional but realistic characters during the civil war. The inspirational selfless service of each one according to their talents and abilities was the best take-away for me.
What an amazing story. Regardless which side of the Civil War you favor this is an emotional book about the sacrifices made by not only the men but also the women during that tragic time of our history. I had such respect for Sarah’s character and the women she actually represented. As for Douglas Benton, he was a hero for sure and a man who found …
Loved it!! Wonderful!!
This story was mesmerizing! I’ve always loved the Civil War period, so was immediately interested when I saw the book. It did not disappoint. The characters come alive as does their emotions and hardships.
Unexpected twists keep the reader’s attention. the scenario of torn affiliations is heartbreaking as well as realistic.
Good historical fiction
Love this book. Best book since Redeeming Love!!!
A war that broke the hearts of many, the Civil War. Here is a story that touched my heart in many ways. Pain and love mixed and lives changed. History that goes on and on. Another side of the coin.
Kept my attention and moved along.
I am a rule not a fan of books about the American Civil War, but this book is a must read for anyone who likes books about historical events. I cried much and had difficulty putting down this book. It is just one of those stories that pull you in and make you part of the events. Furthermore is it well written with full sentences and good …

Very well written. Captured my attention right at the start all the way to the end. Loved this book.
A compassionate portrayal of the tragic division of our nation, and individual families, during the Civil War
An author who truly has the gift to place the reader right in the time and setting in which her stories take place, Jessica James offers a beautifully poignant love story in “Above and Beyond: A Novel of the Civil War”. Young widow Sarah Duvall is reviled in her Virginia homeland for having married a Union officer. Her own brother considers her to …
It was well written and believable for that period of time. Jessica is a great author. I’ve read a few of her books & she does well.
Very good.
