They were on their way to being a real family…until she came into their lives.Expecting their first baby, Judd and Evette McGlin are thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents. But their marriage faces the ultimate test when Judd learns he already has a child: a six-year-old bi-racial daughter, born amid secrets and lies. Now, Evette must decide if she can accept the child—and forgive Judd. … forgive Judd. She thought she was open-minded—until hidden prejudices threaten the future of an innocent little girl, Evette’s marriage, and the very notion of the woman she’s believed herself to be. Above all things, this child needs acceptance and love. Needs Evette to discover what being a mother truly means. Needs Judd to face his past. And needs them both to discover what it truly means to be a family.

A very real life possibility and how it was handled by this family. Very good read!
Thought provoking
I love a good Christian book. The timing for this book was perfect for what our country is going through right now. This author made me think of so many things I never thought of before reading this poignant story.
Very good book!
Very inspirational
This is a beautiful story of love, desires and discovery of self. A valuable read that causes one to look inside themself for any prejudice that might hide behind our everyday thoughts. I really enjoyed this book!
The author did a wonderful job of portraying the dilemma that Judd and Evette faced when they received the very unexpected news that Judd’s former fiancee had a child. The complications and how they dealt with them, growing and changing in the process were very realistic. Well-done and quite honest about the struggles each faced in dealing with the situation and the process. I really enjoyed this book!
I loved this book, like most of this authors books. Kind of story where you put it down and keep thinking about it or wondering how you would handle the same situation. Highly recommend this.
The one thing I did not like was there was a lot of parts about racism, which I think could have been a bit harsh because I grew up in the south and we loved the lady that worked for my mother and she made more of the of the difference than we did. In fact my parents always asked her to come sit now and eat with them but she never would. Said it just wouldn’t be right
Evette was not a likable character in the beginning which made her realistic given the position she found herself. She was not mature enough to handle but in time and experience she comes to learn her mistake. There were a few “author errors” but nothing which ruined the story. I recommend this book.
Great story! Loved the emotions. Loved watching God work in the lives of these people and how their faith was grown.
Deborah Raney’s always creates a great, thought provoking story.
Expecting their first baby, Judd and Evette are thrilled marriage has a child: a 6 year old bi-racial born among secrets and lies.
Deborah Raney always a good read. Good Christian values and always good story plot.
Very good book. Teaching that God knows what he us doing and trusting in Him
I just loved this book. The story of Judd, his wife and Judd’s 6 year old daughter Jolie. I have to admit I was quite upset at Evette for the way she first acted when they found out about Jolie ( she is pregnant with their first child and she thinks that should come first no matter what). She had no compassion, no idea how this was making her husband feel, she was only thinking of herself and what people would think! Then we meet her mother……. I love how Judd and Evette come together though and they both fall in love with Jolie, how faith plays a big roll. That faith is tested throughout the book. You will love this book because it makes you feel! You can not help but think, “what would you do in the situation?”. I love Deborah Raney’s writing, it is like reading about people you would want to know. Reading this book will make you sad, angry, happy, and it will make you laugh, it will also make you believe that everything does happen for a reason!
This book was awesome!!! True and hard feelings to overcome but faith in God can get you and your heart in line.
It was okay.
Evie’s husband gets a call he never thought he’d get. His college sweetheart has had a major stroke . His has a daughter he was unaware of who is 6 years old and needs somewhere to live.
Add to this his wife is expecting their first child together, his child, Jolie, is a different race and Evie feels betrayed AND put upon. Life has taken quite a turn there’s a new normal. Can they make it as a family?
I found this to be a very inspiring story. It makes the reader examine personal feelings and is helpful with a way to resolve them, through trusting the Lord, and seeking His will.
Thank you for being so perceptive!!
