About That Kiss: A Heartbreaker Bay a Novel by Jill Shalvis
This is Joe Malone and Kylie Masters’ story.
About That Kiss is a heartwarming and humorous romance with a little suspense. Kylie had a precious keepsake stolen and she gets Joe to help her investigate it.
Kylie and Joe’s story was fun watching the banter between them as their relationship changes and they try to solve the mystery of her stolen keepsake. Joe is not a forever kind of guy. Will spending time with Kylie change his mind?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I’ve been a fan of Jill Shalvis for several years now. She can always be relied upon for an entertaining, sexy and satisfying read. The way both Joe and Kylie were very honest and upfront with each other almost from the start was refreshing. I enjoyed the mystery of Kylie’s missing keepsake – the culprit was not who I halfway expected it to be – I like when the outcome is unpredictable. This book had me laughing out loud in several spots and I love the peripheral characters and look forward to reading their stories too. Whether you’re an established Jill Shalvis fan or a new-to-her reader, About That Kiss is a must-read.
Another Heartbreaker Bay favorite! This series is just so great to me. There’s friendships, relationships, animals, alcohol and it’s in San Francisco – which is very close to where I live. So it’s totally easy for me to imagine this place that sorta looks like the Melrose Place set up; open courtyard, fountain, etc.
Joe is the definition of tall, dark, strong and handsome. At least how I envision him. And Kylie is gorgeous in her own understated way that Joe sees. They shared a kiss but after lack of contact, Kylie has written it and Joe off. Except now she needs his help and he’s the best person for the job – even though he tries to keep her out of helping.
I cannot express just how much I love these characters and the community of Heartbreaker Bay. They’re like one big family who love and care for each other but also can get on each other’s nerves as only close friends and family can do.
Another series to re-read when I need a good, sweet, funny story!
Another fabulous book by Jill Shalvis. We are back in San Fran in the Heartbreaker Bay world and I love it. I did enjoy this book with Joe and Kaylie. Kaylie is such a fierce and stubborn woman that it makes it fun to read about her. She does put Joe in his place and he needs that. Joe is also stubborn and fiercely loyal but Kaylie finds a way into his heart. I am hoping that Molly’s book will be next and I am hoping that Jill gave us a big hint in this book who her love interest will be.
*Thanks Jill and Publisher for allowing me to read this for my honest opinion*
Kylie’s in a bit of a conundrum. She needs help, knows there’s only one man who would willingly help her, but it’s Joe. Hot, alpha, sexy Joe. Same Joe she kissed—or more like mauled—in a drunken haze. But that kiss was something she didn’t forget about that night. It was unforgettable, just like the man. But the man hasn’t given her the time of day since. But Kylie needs him—needs him to help her find the only physical memory of her beloved grandfather. If only she could get past the kiss and wanting to kiss him again.
Joe knows he’s in trouble the minute Kylie asks for his help. See, he hasn’t gotten over that kiss either. He wants many more of those hot and sexy kisses. It’s what those kisses can lead to that worries him. He’s not a forever kind of guy. He’s a right now man, and Kylie deserves someone who’ll stay.
When their scavenger hunt search also leads to discoveries about each other—and the layers they hide behind, will Kylie and Joe see their way past their kiss to something more?
I don’t think I will ever tire of reading about the awesome characters living in Heartbreaker Bay. Each one more unique than the next. Each one with a bit of a past—and their own reason for living there. It’s an amazing community of friends and I would never move if I lived there too!!
I loved the developing relationship between Joe and Kylie, and the suspense element of their search. Both Kylie and Joe are strong minded—stubborn even. And their desire for each other was fun to watch them fight. But those kisses—plus a skosh of jealousy proved that is wasn’t just About That Kiss, it was about the promise of more. And I loved every minute!
Kylie’s little wooden carved penguin has always brought her a sense of peace, and been a wonderful reminder of her grandfather…but she never expected it to bring her love! When someone steals it, and holds it hostage she is completely devastated, and is desperate to get it back… even if it means turning to the one person she has always steered clear of… Joe Malone. It’s not that she doesn’t like Joe, problem is she likes him a little too much, but relationships give her hives, and a one night stands just aren’t her thing, so it’s best just to keep him at a distance… but now she needs him and his investigative skills! Now if she can just manage to keep her hormones in check while working right alongside him…
Joe Malone can’t believe the words coming out of Kylie’s mouth, she wants him to help her find a wooden penguin, he isn’t real keen on getting involved, but he can’t help but notice the hurt that is written all over her face, and dang it if he doesn’t want to make her happy again. He agrees to help, and assumes he can more than handle the task alone, but Kylie refuses to let him go at it alone, she wants to help bring her beloved penguin home. Joe knows working alongside her is going to be challenging, mainly because the minute she comes around his heart starts to go into overdrive, and the sparks start to fly… but he doesn’t do love, relationships, or anything of the sort, or does he?
Once again Ms. Shalvis has brought her A-game and given readers a heartwarming tale and two endearing characters that they can’t help but lose their heart too. Between the pages of “About That Kiss” you will find two characters that don’t believe in love and are adamant that they don’t want to fall victim to it, but fortunately for them the love gods are looking out for them and have other plans! The moment a missing little penguin brings these two together the sparks start to fly, desire takes over and things really start to heat up, so be ready to get your blush on!! I thoroughly enjoyed this new addition to the Heartbreaker Bay series, it had Ms. Shalvis’s trademark humor, her eccentric characters, and a little suspenseful action to boot, definitely a MUST read to look for in January!! Highly recommend!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title!!
About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis
Heartbreaker Bay #5
I smiled
I cared
I felt like I was there
This series is wonderful! I have loved every story so far and cannot wait for the next one to be written!
A carved wooden penguin goes missing and Kylie Masters calls in the big gun –Joe Malone – to find the last carved piece she has that her grandfather made for her. The kiss in the title is one that happened a few months before and is being ignored by both Kylie and Joe…even though they can’t foret it…so asking him for help is also setting them both up for potential romance.
Joe is a quiet alpha male that works for a security firm in the building where a magic fountain, when a coin is tossed into it, can provide one’s true love…and he is leery of said fountain since four alpha males he knows have bitten the dust after a coin WAS tossed into it and a wish was made. Kylie is a woodworker, trained by her grandfather, who is more comfortable in steel toed boots, jeans, flannel shirt and goggles than fancy togs. She has a delightful canine with issues – a dog that adds to this charming story 😉
With research to be done, stakeouts to be endured, disguises to wear, pasts to explore, family issues to discuss, romance in the air and a nefarious type holding the penguin for ransom this is a story that kept me turning pages rapidly as I eagerly waited to find out just how Kylie and Joe would achieve their HEA together.
At the end of the book I was satisfied…more than satisfied… BUT I was also left wanting to know about so many more of the supporting characters mentioned in the book…I mean…Molly, Hayley, Tina, Sadie are top of the list of females and then there are the single men on the team working with Joe for Archer and Spence’s friend Caleb and…well…this series won’t lose steam for some time if each story yet to be written is as good as the one that preceded it!
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
I really like this book. It’s romantic, suspenseful, fun and of course hot, hot, hot. I wish the story could be a little longer, I tried to read slow but I just can’t stop reading. Love it and can’t wait for the next one.
I received a free copy in exchange of my honest review.
What makes reading fun is watching an author explore new directions. About That Kiss is Jill Shalvis veering into new territory, but reminding readers, she has the talent to back it up. While keeping with tradition and seducing our socks off, Joe and Kylie add some mystery to the lovable canvas of Heartbreaker Bay. What began with a kiss grew in a most intriguing way. From a scene stealing dog, to a curmudgeonly father, a flighty mother and a missing penguin, Ms. Shalvis keeps the charm while adding a hint of suspense. What I enjoy most about the crew from Heartbreaker Bay is that thet show how love can build a family. Blood may not bind them but heart does.
Who knew a penguin could be so romantic? Apparently Jill Shalvis knew!
At its heart, as always, this book is a wonderfully sweet romance. But what is different this time is the suspense woven around Joe and Kylie’s story. Joe Malone’s book in the Heartbreaker Bay series couldn’t have taken shape any other way. Seriously sexy, seriously alpha, seriously guilt ridden, Joe can’t resist helping the sweet goofy woodworker, Kylie, recover stolen property. What starts out as a fun lark quickly turns dangerous as Joe and Kylie close in on the thief.
Both closed off to love, Joe and Kylie’s journey together was rewarding and worth all the head banging! They couldn’t have done it without the help of Joe’s sister, Molly. I have my fingers crossed we get to see her story, because I have a feeling that one will be epic.
I am a sucker for romantic suspense, so I loved this book! Getting more of a peek into Hunt Security was amazing; I loved seeing the interactions between Archer’s team and of course, revisiting Eddie and the gang!
