I never read these types of books, I am more a Thrillers, Mystery kind of girl. I really enjoyed “Every Dog Has His Day”, which I decided to read because it had a dog in the story and the cover was so pretty, so I decided to read “About A Dog” and I loved it! I totally get sucked into the story, the wonderful characters and having a dog involved in the story is a plus as I am a huge dog lover. I am now a huge Jenn Mckinlay fan and I have started “Barking Up The Wrong Tree” and I get to dive right back into the wonderful characters of Bluff Point.
I absolutely loved this book. A fun group of characters who are best friends. Many laughs throughout plus a wonderful romance.
Traveling to your hometown should be a time of celebration and warm memories. For Mac – it’s bittersweet. While she has so many fond memories with her best friends, it’s the bad memories that have kept her away for 7 yrs. Mac headed to Chicago after she was left standing at the alter at her own wedding. The humiliation drove her to seek the nuances of the city. A place where she could forget the past and move on with her life.
Mac finds herself hearing wedding bells in Bluff Point once more, but not for herself. Her best friend Emma is getting married, and Mac is the maid of honor. With two weeks of wedding festivities planned, Mac is hoping to slip into town and avoid any altercations. What Mac didn’t plan for was the ‘pairing up’ that Emma planned for her wedding party. You see…Mac drowned her sorrows in a most unexpected way on that fateful day her wedding bit the dust. It wasn’t a bottle of bourbon that Mac turned to. It was the open arms of Gavin….Emma’s younger brother.
My how one night can stick with you over the years. A secret that Mac and Gavin are the only ones privy to….maybe. The fact is that Emma is over protective of the sibling that she pretty much raised after their mother’s death. The primary reason that Mac wants to keep her night with Gavin a secret. With their ‘pairing’ for all of the festivities, Mac finds it harder to ignore the man that Gavin has become. Despite all of Macs spurns, a dog is the ‘force’ that draws this two former lovers together again. Now – the only question is will they ignore the heat that is quickly brewing? Or will Mac turn her back on what could be the love of a lifetime just to keep her best friend from finding out?
About A Dog sat on my reader for a bit …I must confess. You see – Jenn McKinlay was a new author to me and I didn’t really know what to expect. The blurb drew me in. I have such a soft spot for dogs, so I decided to check this book out. I am SO glad I did!!
This friends to lovers romance dives into the lives of a small group of friends in Bluff Point. Mac and Gavin have been hiding a secret from the others that might change the dynamic of the group if anyone finds out. What I loved was the sweet and slow build that one would expect when discovering your ‘love of a lifetime’ might have been under your nose for years. The characters were fun, flirty, and full of adventure (oh the aunts!!). A great summer read from beginning to end.
While this was my first Jenn McKinlay book, it certainly will NOT be the last. I can’t wait to unravel more in the lives of these entertaining characters!!
A copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Seven years ago, after being left at the altar (and then sleeping with her best friend’s younger brother, Gavin…) Mac Harris left her hometown of Bluff Point, Maine and never looked back. But now, her best friend is getting married, and as the maid of honor, Mac has to go back home for a two week wedding extravaganza. After so much time, she was convinced that she could just ignore her past mistakes, but that ends up being a lot harder when she and Gavin keep getting shoved together for wedding events. Mac’s tried to convince herself that she’s over her and Gavin’s one-time, secret fling, but Gavin knows he isn’t and will do whatever it takes to convince Mac to give him a shot.
This was my first Jenn McKinlay book, but I know it won’t be my last. I was hooked right from the very beginning. It was sweet and heartfelt and just a joy to read. About a Dog just hit all the right notes for me. Charming small town, second chance romance, lead character with an interesting job (Gavin’s a vet), and a cast of entertaining supporting characters. And, of course, an adorable dog. Other than the two twin aunts, who I constantly struggled to tell from each other, all of the characters had unique and charming personalities, opening the door for several sequels about other couples that I would absolutely be interested in reading. And I really just loved the main characters. Mac was positively hilarious and had so much heart. I felt what Mac felt, especially when it came to her sweet dog, Tulip. And Gavin. I spent so much time swooning over Gavin, he was just such a good guy and I especially loved any time we got to see him in vet mode. The story itself was excellent as well. I loved the backdrop of the wedding and all the little small town things that went along with the wedding events. There was definitely some drama and a few twists and turns to the plot, but it never felt contrived or too over the top, instead it just made me keep saying “just one more chapter…”
Loved Gavin, he was a saint. Mac, was a bit neurotic. Together, they made for a cute romance.
I love every book with dogs in it, bar none.
Great book. Heart warming.
Cute and funny, light hearted read.
This was my first book by Jenn McKinlay and her first romantic comedy. Wow, did she ever do a good job! This book was so good that I really can’t believe it was her first in the genre. I really think she’s right up there with Jill Shalvis and Kristan Higgins, and that is hard to accomplish!
The characters in the book were likable and believable. The humor was at times subtle and at other times it slapped you up side the head. The trail to happiness for Mac (Mackenzie) and Gavin wasn’t an easy one. It was littered with a bridezilla (actually she wasn’t that bad), the best friend’s little brother hurtle that they had to drag themselves over and actual dog poop. I was in their corner every inch of the way. The HEA ending was spectacular and left me anxious for the next book in the series. Bring it on….please!
Predictable but likable characters and a good plot. An easy reed for those days when you just want to have fun.
Cute, easy read and quick
After being left at the alter and spending the night with her best friend’s younger brother seven years ago, Mac ran away from her hometown and never came back. Now that her best friend is getting married, Mac is back in town, trying to forget all of the bad memories and the great ones she made with Gavin. Gavin has been in love with Mac for most of his life and now that she’s back in town, he’s going to make sure that she realizes how perfect they could be together, if only she could move past her past.
I loved all of the characters in this story. Gavin is sweet, romantic, and a great friend. Mac has been through a lot but, at times, her holding Gavin at an arm’s length got frustrating. This entire group of friends is hilarious, supportive, and close. I am really looking forward to more books in this series.
