Wow! What a riveting addition to Linda Watkins’ Kate Pomeroy Mystery series! Abducted sent chills down my back as I read the raw internal thoughts of Kate’s kidnapping. Ripped from the excitement and anticipation of her up-coming wedding, Dr. Kate Pomeroy awakens in a small room with unthinkable conditions. From dysentery to rats gnawing on her injury, Kate’s situation vividly etched into my imagination.
By rotating her chapters between her richly drawn cast of characters, Watkins gives the reader insight into their minds, creating a storyline that grips you quickly and won’t let go until the end.
While Kate fights for her life, unraveling who abducted her and why her kidnappers orchestrated such a demoralizing and cruel situation, her fiancé, Jeremy, races against time to find her.
Linda Watkins’ mystery pierces into the dark side of humanity, as she draws the reader into the character’s experiences, developing a well-rounded, vivid picture of the plot. I won’t delve into the storyline because I think it’s best of breed or just that on his or her own. However, if you love thrillers, don’t hesitate to pick up a copy of Abducted. I highly recommend the story, and give it five beautiful stars.
ABDUCTED is a gothic mystery that begins at the height of Dr. Kate Pomeroy’s happy anticipation of getting married and quickly devolves when she is abducted while standing on the warf at night, holding the remnant of her previous life, the wedding dress.
The story alternates between chapters told from her point of view, chapters describing the actions of her nemesis Vlad and his daughter Svetlana, and chapters describing the rescue efforts by Jeremy, who is trying to find her before it’s too late. These shifts between subjective and objective views help sharpen the danger she is in while in the hands of her captors, even as she starts developing a psychological bond with them out of desperation.
Will Jeremy save her, and at what cost to his own safety? And will she ever regain the sense of being the woman she used to be before that night on the ward, when her existence was viciously ripped away from her?
Disclosure: I first learned of Linda Watkins’ work when both of us were invited to take part in the same boxed set and enjoyed reading it since then.
Back in town for a wedding dress fitting, Dr. Kate Pomeroy has no idea that someone is watching her … very closely. Normally, very aware of her surroundings, with her wedding scheduled for the following weekend, she could probably be forgiven. But she’s going to wish she had paid more attention.
Heading for a taxi after her fitting, she is abducted… by whom? why?
She’ll have plenty of time to ask herself those questions as she is mentally and physically tortured.
Well written, highly suspenseful, this is an excellent addition to the series. Although this is the 3rd book, it is easily read as a stand alone. I recommend that the books be read in order ..just so the little gems that make really good reading are not missed. The characters are solidly drawn and interact within the swirls of twists and turns.
The first two novels are Storm Island and The Tao of the Viper.
