Abandoned by Love by Aleya Michelle is the first book in the Shattered Hearts duet. This is a book that will fully engage every single one of your emotions.
For me this whole book is made by the characters. Yes there is a story but everything about it, the emotions, the angst, is because of them. They consumed every part of the reading experience for me and I felt like I was taking the journey with them.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I love the way she has clearly crafter her characters and the story to fit them. The pace was fantastic and consistent throughout. I am very much looking forward to book 2!
Have you ever fallen where the person you just meet is your soulmate? Aleya Michelle wrote Abandoned by Love which has that topic. The characters are wonderful and I made a connection right away. I know of two people that have meet their soulmates in their high school days and are still married today twenty plus years ago. The story does have this travel from “today” and “past years” This story can be a true story which makes this story believable. In life we have moments that define us and what if we make the wrong choice. That thought crosses my mind more than once. Emily and Jaxon has that relationship of soulmates. Emily has made some choices in life that really hurt Jaxon. It is so easy to be upset with Emily because of the choices she is making and the same goes for Jaxon. He is an amazing character that gets the short end of the stick. I cannot wait to see what happens next in their story.
A very solid and engaging romance from start to finish. Sometimes good romance still lends itself to the predictable paces found in many stories. This book did indeed have some expected moments occur as anticipated. But that didn’t detract from the storyline. In some ways it only enhanced the credibility of this story. This emotionally charged tale left me wanting me and anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. Strong characters, solid plot, romance – I truly enjoyed this book.
4 Stars
Abandoned By Love is the first book in the Shattered Hearts Duet by Aleya Michelle. This story has a familiar recipe, but done really well. Even though it was a little predictable, the story still engaged me and kept me interested. It is told from past and present perspectives, with a lot of ‘flashbacks’ into the past which helps to build up the backstory.
The plot really made me think about how one moment in time, one seemingly insignificant decision, can impact your life so irrevocably. That’s just what happens here though, one life altering choice, changes everything. When Jax and Emily have their whole lives ahead of them, and plans of always being together- how do things change so drastically? What drives Emily to leave her childhood sweetheart? Can their shattered hearts ever be mended? This emotive story is worth the read to find out.
Aleya Michelle created a solid cast of characters who drew me into the story. There were many emotional moments, that had me reaching for the tissues. There were also times I was really frustrated by the characters- especially Emily. But that added to the whole ‘feel’ of the story. The ending certainly has me anticipating the release of book #2, that’s for sure!
Well done!
Thank you, Aleya Michelle!
This is an engaging, hard to put down story about soul mates and one tragic accident. This was an emotional ride that I had a hard time putting down. Jaxon and Emily just knew they were meant to be together at a young age until one night when fate had other plans. This story goes back and forth between the present and the past and is done so in an easy flowing manner. The characters made the story come alive and made me apart of their story. I highly recommend this book.
Heartbreaking!!
Heartbreaking is the one word I’d use to describe Abandoned By Love by Aleya Michelle. If you decide to read this book, and I definitely recommend that you do, then please make sure that you have a supply of tissues handy as you will sure as hell need them.
Jaxon and Emily are school sweethearts who are madly in love and have a bright future ahead of them. Jaxon is the star of the baseball team and Emily is a gymnast. Their lives are pretty perfect but then fate has a different plan for them. A car crash changes their lives forever. Emily can’t face her future anymore and moves away leaving Jaxon heartbroken.
This story is so powerful and full of emotion. Told from both points of view, we are given flash backs to the perfect lives they had before the accident, and also are given an emotional look at how both are dealing with the post-accident trauma and struggling to cope with life without each other.
This is the first part of a duet and I cannot wait for part two to come out as I’m desperate to know what the future hold for both Emily and Jaxon. They are both amazing characters who have had so much adversity in their lives and they really deserve a HEA, hopefully with each other.
I love everything about this book except for the choices made by Emily. I understand them and why she did it but she broke my boys heart in doing so which makes it hard to support her. This is a great story and awesome characters. The author does us a solid by giving us flashbacks of their time together, introducing us and their friends. Bringing us along on how the relationship started and some of their challenges and more along the way. It’s done very well and while it’s my first read by this author she made me a fan since there isn’t any over the top drama or strung out angst. This author poured all the feels into this and you can tell. Her characters reach out and embed themselves on your heart making their pain yours in this emotional heart felt read. Well done can’t wait for the conclusion in book 2.
This is my first read from this author and it was an okay story but I honestly expected more. Jaxon and Emily’s story is one of love, pain and regrets that was caused by a choice made one night that eventually leads to life altering consequences. There was no denying the love they had for each other. The thing that bothered me most about this story was that although I enjoy when a story alternates between past and present, I need it in equal parts. This story gave me more of the past between these characters and I needed more present to keep me interested in reading the next book. This book gives us the past so I’m sure the next book gives us their present. The thing is this book didn’t leave me wanting to read the next and it wasn’t a bad read, it just didn’t turn out to be the one for me.
I really enjoyed pieces of this book. At first it was a little confusing as it jumped from character to character and past to present. The author always made you aware though where you were at. I enjoyed feeling the connection between Jaxon and Emily and I can’t wait to see what comes of them in book two. Their love is something that is once in a lifetime and yet it was taken away from them both too soon after a tragic accident occurs.
One thing that I couldn’t get past though, was that they were still in high school, but they were 20-21 years of age. Is this a thing in some places? It was just weird to me. I definitely would give this book a 3.5 star!
