This Scottish regency romance featuring an English lady and a Scottish highlander penned by USA TODAY bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author Bree Wolf proves that you can fight love, but it’ll be a fight you cannot win.Scotland 1805: On his way to claim his late father’s title, highland chief CONNOR BRUNWOOD, stumbles upon an English lass in a deserted clearing. She’s dressed like a man, … She’s dressed like a man, in shirt and breeches, her blond tresses hidden under a large hat and a foil in her hand, as she practises the art of sword-fighting.
Awed by the sight of her spirited, blue eyes, and graceful, yet alluring movements, Connor calls her bluff, vowing that he will make her his wife.
However, that is easier said than done.
Weary of men and their intentions, HENRIETTA TURNER lives and plays by her own rules alone. So far she’s thwarted every marriage proposal to come her way – though gentlemen aren’t exactly beating down her door. Her scowl and outright manner have sent even the most steadfast of them running for the hills.
Good riddance, for Henrietta is hell-bent on remaining unwed.
However, her plans come to an abrupt halt when a devilishly disarming highlander discovers her secret hideout. Undeterred by her rejection, Connor goes over her head to her uncle and secures her hand in marriage.
Outraged, Henrietta is determined not to bend her head to this savage brute from the north, whose crooked smile and knowing eyes make her pulse race in a most disturbing and highly inconvenient way. Still, the walls she’s built around her heart begin to crumble as she struggles to resist his keen wit and gentle strength.
Sensing her wounded heart, Connor is resolved to break through her defences, and soon Henrietta will find herself swept off her feet by her dangerously attractive husband and the kind heart he offers her in exchange for her own.

A Scottish man falls in love with an English lass. This wasn’t one of my favorite reads; there was too much emphasis on dreams and predictions of the future for my taste.
Loved the storyline!
This book had fear, abandonment, mistrust, love and insecurity.
Another cracker of a story. Alovely Regency Romance.
Enjoyable read
Henrietta is plagued by an incident in her past where her mother and father die. Her uncle eventually marries her off to Connor, the new leader of a clan and she tries desperately to fight of her demons from her past and with Connor’s love and understanding she tears aways at them slowly but surely.
This is a delightful story written by Bree Wolf for her Love’s Second Chance Series and one can happily read it as a stand-alone.
I found myself empathizing with Henrietta’s difficult decisions and her desperation and frustration when she realizes that she really does feel something for this man that she was married to. Connor on the other hand is unselfish, loving and caring (I want one just like him please!). Together they make this story come alive on the pages of this book and I happily recommend it as an exciting page-turner that you might just find hard to put down.
In this story Henrietta must combat her problem of distrust of men. In modern days she would be a good candidate for a shrink, because a horrific event from her childhood have left scars that rule her life. Making it difficult when love comes along in the form of Connor. A good love story. I gave it five stars.
Wonderful writing.
I like the feistiness of the main character and the romance is sweet. Filled with hurts and healing. I liked it.
Great story!
My favorite part of this book was Connor and how honorable he was. In error when “asserting” his husbandly rights was acceptable, he set out to woo and win his wife over, knowing she was forced into marrying him. No graphic sex, but to me that in no way detracts from the romance – if anything, a little mystery is a lot more romantic than in-your-face graphic sexual description. There was a bit of intrigue, some nice chemistry between Henrietta and Connor, and HEA closure. An enjoyable read.
The emotions were up and down. Found myself feeling so much of what the characters were feeling. Highly recommend!!
Haven’t completed, but sweet, tender love story. Our heroine was taught to trust and love with the help of our hero and his family
Loved it would like to get the rest of the series
Was A good Read!
I didn’t like the ending. It felt unfinished.
This was an all around great read – an epic novel. There were many twists and turns – very well written. It kept my interest right up to the last page. Loved it!
