On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote gold-mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins—and not a single bone was ever found. One hundred sixteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them to the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened. Recently, a … Recently, a similar party had also attempted to explore the town and was never heard from again. Now the area is believed to be haunted. This crew is about to discover, twenty miles from civilization with a blizzard bearing down, that they are not alone, and the past is very much alive.

When I say it kept me guessing, this book kept me guessing–and I love that! Abandon raises your hopes, deflates them, raises them again, scares the hell out of you and leaves you with a bit of mystery. Don’t start reading until you have a few days to kill. I couldn’t put it down.
This book is frightening. I thought Dean Koontz’ “Intensity” was absolutely horrifying and “Abandon” is equally scary. The Colorado setting, in an old Western mining town in the mountains, is a powerful background for some of the most awful greedy evil people you’ve seen on paper. I wanted the book to end, but I didn’t want it to end. It was …
Very good. About a ghost town where every single person disappeared in the 1800’s. A group goes there to try to find out what happened. Previously another group went but never returned. I liked this one.
I loved this book. Pulled me in from the first page and kept me up all night reading–incredible world building that made me feel like I was there. The ending left me sick to my stomach in the best way possible.
What a story! I love death-defying adventure set in Arctic conditions, and anything to do with the way in which history circles around to meet the present, and this novel is made up of these two elements. New York journo Abigail goes on an excursion to the lost town of Abandon, high in the Colorado rockies, with her father (who she hasn’t seen …
Abandon is richly described and full of action. The twists kept me guessing and the dual timeline narrative gave me two books for the price of one. It’s a solid, entertaining, yet gruesome read.
Abandon is a town way up in high altitude mountains where oxygen is much thinner. The book alternates between past and present. Something precious has been there since the town was booming 1n the 1800’s. There seems to be something worth dying killing for,
Abandon is not an easy place to journey. A guide must take those wanting to do there on …
EXCELLENT READ! YOU BECOME IMMERSED IN THIS STORY! 10 STARS
I was rapt the entire book!
Suspenseful
Good job on the past and present going back and forth.
Switches back and forth between the past and the present. Great mystery that unfolds.
This book got me hooked on this author!
I liked this one very much. I have read several novels by Blake Crouch but for some reason this is the one I remember.
To me this was a decent enough book, it was just not what I expected it to be from the synopsis at all. And felt really poor in some aspects. The actual writing and editing was good and didn’t let me down or confuse me. My issues come from the misleading synopsis, poor characters, and honestly just too much death.
Lets start on that misleading …
This whole thing was non-stop harrowing action and intense situations. There was little let up in the intensity of the story, and while I typically like that, there was just no breaks to recover for a moment, making it feel like it went on forever. I’m not even sure if there was a happy ending, but I was relieved when it was finally over. I will …
Entirely pointless story. Sorry but not sorry.
Grabbed my attention from the beginning, and didn’t let go.
When I started reading this book, I thought there was going to be a supernatural element. I kept waiting for something that was never going to come…. because of this, I didn’t like the book. Maybe if I had known what to expect, I would have appreciated the book more. To be fair, the summary on Amazon does kind hint towards a ghost/haunting.
Nothing expected… the suspense and intrigue just pile up.
