A Year Of Second Chances by author Buffy Andrews was a joy to read. The story opens with Scarlett on her way back to the imaging center after a recent mammogram. She calls her best friend Shonna to help calm her nerves before the second set of images are taken. Scarlett is worried and afraid that cancer will be detected. The scenes of the imaging center, the mammogram, and follow-up visit are situations so many women have experienced, but this is written with a bit of wry humor. I like this character of Scarlett , she and I could be best friends!
Although the story opens with the cancer scare, the book is actually about a recently divorced Scarlett deciding to work through a personal goals list she had written as a student. She found the list while cleaning out a box in her parents basement before their move. This is a most inspiring story of one woman starting her life over with a positive attitude to do those things her younger self had wanted to do or accomplish. I loved the best friend driving trip through Route 66!
This is a story about taking the disappointments in life and turning them around. I really enjoyed this book!
Great story of a second chance at life and love! I really enjoyed getting lost in this book.
I really enjoyed this book and found it inspirational.
Story of divorcee with empty nest after two kids graduate from college. She finds a list of life’s goals she wrote for herself when in Junior High. She reminds herself that setting goals and following through may help her to regain her personal identity. With the help of a life long friends she begins to readdress these goals (plus new goals) and gains inner strength. Inspiring for empty nesters. Fun book to read.
Really enjoyed reading this book.
Well written
I really enjoyed the majority of the book. My only critics are that too many people got cancer, The main character thought she may have breast cancer, her ex-husband got colon cancer, her boyfriends wife died of uterine cancer and her ex-boyfriends father got cancer, there are other diseases that people go through. Second, things came to a close quickly and we never found out if the main character opened her boutique which was a big part of the book! I felt like part of the ending was left off. Other wise I did enjoy it.
Good story about making bucket lists. I enjoyed it.
An entertaining and fun read. Highly recommend!
Uplifting
While I don’t generally like this genre, I found the heroine to be a lot like me. I loved how she took charge of her life and turned it around. The heroine, her problems, and her solutions were believable and obtainable unlike many books in this genre.
slow reading, contrived
Good book. Fun and fresh.
Just a good read without the predictability of many stories
A nice little book. Felt like the main character was a good friend.
Main character finds a bucket list she wrote when she was a teenager. Her marriage ended her kids have moved out and it’s finally time to check off the list
