It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.
“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I’ll be on my way. Speaking of … Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.”
A tesseract (in case the reader doesn’t know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L’Engle’s unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.

Loved it
A children’s classic that I enjoyed rereading as an adult.
First read in the 1950s and have read at least 3 more times over my lifetime. It remains one of my favorite books of all time.
If you must see the movie–do. But then come back to the original.
Classic.
This and the other books in this series are some of my all time favorites.
Excellent children’s novel.
If you enjoy the battle of light and dark forces fought by underdogs, then this book is for you.
Rejected, underestimated and misunderstood a young heroine and heroes arise to a problem that is way over their heads. They are ill-equipped, afraid and greatly lack in finesse but they still continue anyway trying to do what is right. On the way …
I loved the amazing moral this story espouses. We need a message like this in today’s world!
Read them all and you should too
I read this when I was still in elementary school and it is still one of my favorite books. As I am now a grandma that is saying a lot. Read it before the movie comes out with Chris Pine . This book is timeless and its own kind of wonderful.
This is an amazing book and is one of the most well written books I have come across. I am planning on reading the next four books. One of the things I liked about this book was that it quotes some verses from the Bible and tells kind of the story about God overcoming sin and evil. The author gives a very good description of the characters and …
Great book for young adults.
This is the book that hooked me on fantasy. It was my gateway drug. I can’t wait for the movie.
This is the first time that I have read this novel.
I found that this novel was very interesting and definitely different. I’m glad that my book club picked this novel. I found it very interesting.
I really could relate to the characters and I definitely understand why so many people have latched onto it.
The best Children’s Book, Ever!
I have always loved this book and it’s sequels. The fight between good and evil is real, but it does not always take place in the ways you think you know. I love how LeIngle shows that in this series. She has a fantastic mind and I am sincerely thankful she shared hers with the world!
Read this as a beginning teacher 40 years ago. Loved it then, love it now. One worth rereading.
Such a wonderful classic, still a fantastic story and a great job of world-building. My favorite L’Engle (isn’t it everyone’s?)
This was the first science fiction book I ever read. When I reread it many years later it was even better
