It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.
“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I’ll be on my way. Speaking of … Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.”
A tesseract (in case the reader doesn’t know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L’Engle’s unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.

Loved this book! Such a wonderful and engaging story.
What a fabulous imagination Madeleine L’Engle had! And she was so deft at handling spiritual themes.
This book continues to be one of my all time favorites. (The movie did not do it justice, and I hope will not detour young readers from learning the truths and wisdom contained in the novel.)
I want to read it again. I read the entire series years ago, and loved the fabulous adventure. It took me away from a scary time in my life; was a happy distraction. I want to read it again with my grandchildren
This book helped shape my childhood. Five stars.
I read this for the first time in junior high as so many others around my age. It was the first fantasy book I’d read and has stuck with me all these years. The fun new worlds, the whimsy of the characters, and the strength of Meg drew me in right from the start. Also, the idea that we can both rely on faith and create our own destiny at the same …
Absolutely loved this book. It’s one of my favorites I’ve read over and over.
A Wrinkle in Time begins late one stormy night, when Meg Murry and family have trouble sleeping. They live, presumably, in a small New England community. Meg, her young brother named Charles Wallace and their biologist mother gather downstairs in the kitchen for a midnight snack. Their physicist father is missing. He was last known to have worked …
4 ½ Stars
A Wrinkle In Time is the first book in the Time Quintet Series by Madeleine L’Engle. I wanted to read this book before I watched the movie. I have a vague recollection of having read it as a teenager- but diving in again was like experiencing it all for the very first time.
I really enjoyed this YA fantasy and devoured it in one easy …
This was the first book I’ve read by Madeline L’Engle, and got hooked. I bought all the volumes in the series. I’ve also read some of her other books. Her writing is clear and engaging. Her subjects always interesting. I highly recommend this book and Ms. L.Engle as a writer.
I wish this book hadn’t been so preachy. Otherwise it was a nice story.
The book is very colorful in how the places are described. I would highly recommend this book.
You forget where you are
Did not hold my interest. Would not have finished it if it were not so short.
My granddaughter loved it.
My problem with the book was even though it occasionally spoke scripture and once even mentioned Jesus, these points were then dismissed.
This is a wonderful book. Full of great characters and descriptions. Very imaginable reading. Great book for 6th grades to start there journey on the wonders of reading.
This is a wonderful book for all ages. Great writing and characters you will love.
The best intro to sci fi for young girls, hands down.
I was a late comer to this series, having never read them as a child. However, being an adult reader brought me great pleasure in “The Wrinkle in Time” and the books that continued the adventures of Meg Murray and her family. As a child, I could not have appreciated the theological themes that wove throughout the series. I loved this book and the …
