This series hugs me and holds me from beginning to end. Hollywood is coming to Lighthouse Cove and Shannon can not wait. Not only is the whole town excited about a television show being taped in their community but Shannon is going to be part of the show and her sister Chloe, the co-star of a popular renovation program who has been too busy to visit, is returning for the first time since she left shortly after high school. The dead body curse that has haunted Shannon for over a year seems to have spread to Chloe as the duo manages to trip over bodies before taping even begins.
The warmth of the Shannon’s friend, especially Max and Eric, and the every day details that Kate Carlisle so smoothing integrates into the story bring such a real life feel that it is easy to get pulled into the story even before the mystery grabs readers and holds us enrapt throughout the book. I loved the interaction between Shannon and Chloe and hope to see her in the next book. A Wrench in the Works is a must read for any fans of cozy or amateur sleuth mysteries.
I was delighted to receive and ARC of A Wrench in the Works via NetGally and am delighted to share my love for this book with other book lovers.
I don’t have a handy bone in my body but love this series and their work on Victorian homes. This visit was especially fun because we get to meet Shannon’s sister Chloe who is the star on a home improvement show that comes to Lighthouse cove. Shannon and Chloe are too much fun together.
A Wrench In The Works is the sixth book in the A Fixer-Upper Mystery series.
Shannon Hammer is very excited as her sister, Chole, co-star of the reality TV show, Makeover Madness is coming home and will be filming the restoration one of the many Victorian homes in Lighthouse Cove. Shannon was asked to find two homes from which the producer of the show, Bree. On the first day of filming Shannon and Chole arrive early to do a walk-thru, but what they don’t expect to find is the dead body of Bree lying by a fireplace hearth. The police arrive and begin their investigation when they go to look for Bree’s husband Blake, co-star of the show, to let him know of his wife passing and find him apparently having been drugged. As police chief, Eric Jensen, is returning to the house he has to break up a fight between Rolly Watkins, owner of the house that isn’t being made over and Richie Rich, who sold the Watkins’ the home and allegedly promised the house would be selected for restoration. The next day when Shannon arrives for work she finds the body of Richie Rich, dead on the front porch.
Shannon had learned when Chole when she first arrived in town that Bree was not particularly well-liked. Bree’s method of management is my way or the highway. In fact, she had fired Chole as they were about to leave for Lighthouse Cove. In fact she had also fired Blake a number of times. What with Chole having had a loud argument with Bree that was heard by several people, she becomes a person of interest.
But then an extension ladder Chole is climbing on mysteriously collapses and she gets ill after having her make-up applied by her make-up person, Shannon knows she has to really applying herself to find the killer, to not only keep Chole from being charged but to also save her life. So with help of her boyfriend, Max Sullivan commit themselves to finding the killer
It’s always nice to stop in Lighthouse Cover for a visit with Shannon, Robbie the Westie, and its nice residents. I have learned to count on a well-written and plotted story with an enjoyable and interesting cast of characters from Kate Carlisle and A Wrench In The Works is no exception.
I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this exciting series.
Shannon’s sister has come home to visit and brought her Hollywood TV crew with her to film her show. When a body shows up in the first house, things don’t look good for her sister. Once again the series does not disappoint! Great characters with strong personalities and depth enhance a great multi-layered plot to keep you entertained and intrigued!
